Abstract: This invention relates to an encapsulated pharmaceutical dosage form comprising a practically insoluble compound or salt and an intracapsular fluid, and/or a surfactant and/or cellulose derivative. It provides for increased oral absorption as compared with the conventional system because, on release of capsule contents from the capsule shell, the practically insoluble compound or salt undergoes diminution in crystal size.
Abstract: An optical head which records data onto an optical data recording medium and reproduces the data therefrom includes a laser light source, a collimator lens, an objective lens, a light splitting device arranged between the laser light source and the objective lens, for splitting the emitted light from the laser light and a reflected light from the optical data recording medium. A diffraction grating is provided to which only the reflected light split at the light splitting device is incident to, and which leads the reflected light split at the optical element onto a photo-detector. Thereby, an optical head of high effectiveness in utilization of light and low cost can be obtained.

Abstract: A method for converting binary data into a multilevel signal where the binary data includes m data, or symbols, per group unit which have n bits per data. The multilevel signal includes m time slots, or symbol periods, and m+1 levels per basic period. The m time slots include 0th to m-1 slots. The m+1 levels include 0th to m-1th levels and an upper standard level above the m-1th level. The basic period is alternately and consecutively defined as A type and B type. A type data at a predetermined location is defined as an index data. When the binary data is converted into the multilevel signal, the index data is assigned to the Tth time slot taking the 0th level in the A type basic period and upper standard level in the B type basic period corresponding to a value T of the original index data in binary digit. Other binary data j, or normal data, are allocated to each time slots except the Tth time slot for the index data after converted into the multilevel signal with level values L.sub.
Abstract: A semiconductor memory device including a memory cell array having memory cells arranged in XY directions, means for storing at least X addresses of failure bit memory cells among memory cells defined by an X address and a Y address in the memory cell array, and address means for generating an address Xe+m (m=positive or negative integer), serving as an internal address, when X address Xe corresponding to the failure bit address is inputted from an external section.
Abstract: Fuel cell stacks comprising stacked separator/membrane electrode assembly cells in which the separators comprise a series of stacked thin sheet platelets having individually configured serpentine micro-channel reactant gas humidification, active area and cooling fields therein. The individual platelets are stacked with coordinate features precisely aligned in contact with adjacent platelets and bonded to form a monolithic separator. Post bonding processing includes passivation, such as nitriding. Preferred platelet material is 4-25 mil Ti in which the features, serpentine channels, tabs, lands, vias, manifolds and holes, are formed by chemical or laser etching, cutting, pressing or embossing, with combinations of depth and through-etching being preferred. The platelet manufacturing process is continuous and fast. By employing CAD based platelet design and photolithography, rapid change in feature design to accommodate a wide range of thermal management and humidification techniques. 100 cell H.sub.2 -O.sub.

Abstract: A method and system in which a user manually changes the quality of specific time periods of encoded video. After the automatic encoding of video into a compressed digital format, a person editing the encoded video reviews the quality of the video and manually indicates that the quality of specific time periods of the video is to be altered. As the digital storage medium such as an optical disc which stores the encoded video has a finite storage capacity, the total number of bits for the encoded video and the quality of the video is limited. Consequently, in order to increase the quality for one time period, bits must be taken from other time periods. After the editor assigns the qualities to different time periods, a percentage of bits is removed from the time sequences and placed into a bit pool. The new number of bits for the various time periods are calculated using an exponential function and the bits in the bit pool are proportionally distributed to the video frames.

Abstract: The present invention comprises a photosensitive member supported for rotation within a unit case and a charger for uniformly charging the photosensitive member. The charger includes a conductive member in the form of a sheet held in contact with the photosensitive member and a supporting member having a non-flat cross section for supporting the conductive member, in which the charger applies a voltage formed of a direct-current voltage with an alternating-current voltage added thereto to the conductive member to thereby uniformly charge the photosensitive member. The charger is kept in place by having the supporting member fixed to vertical planes of the unit case at positions off vertical planes crossing the photosensitive member.

Abstract: An electric rotating machine comprises a rotor body of cylindrical structure and a stator body covering an outer peripheral portion of the rotor body in a non-contact fashion. The stator body includes a stator winding formed with an insulation layer and arranged radially outward of the rotor body with a clearance from the rotor body and a stator core which supports the stator winding.
Abstract: A system which provides an alarm indicative of a presence of an obstacle in a vicinity of a vehicle. The system operates by electromagnetic detection, and generates an oscillating radiofrequency signal. A transmitter transmits the generated oscillated radiofrequency signal to create, all around the transmitter, an electromagnetic radiofrequency near field. A receiver receives the electromagnetic radiofrequency near field. A detector is connected to the receiver and detects a perturbation resulting in a reduction of an oscillation amplitude of the electromagnetic radiofrequency near field, and an indicator indicates the detected perturbation of the received electromagnetic radiofrequency near field. Based on this operation, an obstacle in a vicinity of the vehicle can be detected.

Abstract: Polluted groundwater is purified by separating off solids and adsorbing dissolved organic compounds to an adsorber resin. The adsorbed organic compounds are desorbed using steam and the adsorber resin is regenerated using an acid and an oxygen-containing gas. The process makes it possible to separate aromatic and halogenated hydrocarbons off of heavily polluted groundwater to the extent that the groundwater can be added to flowing surface water without reservation. The purified water can, if appropriate, be used as cooling water, or after further biological purification, as drinking water.
Abstract: Disclosed is an improved system for the delivery of entertainment and educational programming from a plurality of electronic libraries to a plurality of users. Users actuate a hand operated control device to: review a listing of available programming; enable the delivery of a program from a library; or control the delivery of forwarding and rewinding through the programming, and authorizing the purchase of advertised consumer goods by entering in personal identification numbers. The network of libraries and the paths for delivering the programming stored therein is arranged for optimum transmission efficiency and maximum access capacity. The key idea in optimizing transmission efficiency and access capacity is to recognize that programming can be grouped into different classes, and that not all classes of programs should be stored in all libraries.
