  • Patent number: 7184873
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for preventing selected users from driving a vehicle above a particular speed. The speed limit value can be programmed by the selected users by driving the vehicle at a desired speed limit and providing programming instruction. The device provides, from acceleration control signals received from the acceleration pedal, altered acceleration control signals. When in non speed limiting mode, the device simply forwards the acceleration control signals to the engine control unit or the electronic throttle controller. When in speed limiting mode, the device makes no change to the acceleration control signals if the vehicle speed is below the speed limit value and alters the acceleration control signals if the vehicle speed reaches the speed limit value, in order to limit the speed of the car.

  • Patent number: 7181117
Abstract: An optical fiber system comprises an optical fiber having a doped core and a first cladding about the doped core. The optical fiber has a first longitudinal portion and a second longitudinal portion, and is arranged such that the first longitudinal portion and the second longitudinal portion are longitudinally side by side. The first cladding of the first longitudinal portion is adjacent to the first cladding of the second longitudinal portion such that light propagating in the first cladding can move laterally from the first longitudinal portion to the second longitudinal portion to increase the amount of light reaching the doped core. The optical fiber is adapted to be coupled to a power input and has an output end for outputting light emitted by the doped core. The second fractional cladding about the first cladding conceals light in the first cladding.

  • Patent number: 7163451
Abstract: A regional abattoir system is comprised of a permanent animal containment enclosure provided in a geographic region containing a plurality of animal suppliers. The permanent abattoir containment enclosure is adapted to house a predetermined number of animals to accustomize the animals to non-stressful environment prior to being slaughtered. The containment enclosure has an internal isolated slaughter room which has a door opening for communication with an external mobile abattoir. The mobile abattoir has a receiving station where a slaughtered animal is transferred to an overhead conveyor and processed into a skinless carcass for inspection and identification stamping prior to being refrigerated. This regional abattoir system serves small animal suppliers in sectors of a predetermined region whereby the animals are not transported large distances thereby minimizing stress and bruising of the animals and thereby producing better quality meat.

  • Patent number: 7162774
Abstract: A multi-position adjustable door hinge is comprised of a frame leaf having a lower barrel section and a door leaf having an upper barrel section. An eccentric pivot pin is disposed in axial rotational fit in a through bore of the lower barrel section and is in contact at a lower end with an adjustment screw. The eccentric pivot pin has an upper cylindrical portion eccentrically displaced from the lower cylindrical portion and extends into a cylindrical bore of an eccentric compensator cylinder adjustably retained in the through bore of the upper barrel section. The eccentric pivot pin and the eccentric compensator cylinder are both axially displaceable from one another whereby to impart relative lateral displacement thereof and of the barrels to a desired position. The adjustment screw at the bottom of the lower barrel section provides vertical adjustment between the frame leaf and the door leaf.

  • Patent number: 7165154
Abstract: A method and system of data backup for a computer system is disclosed. Full and incremental backups of data stored to a first storage device coupled to the computer system are stored to a backup storage device coupled to the computer system. The backup storage device may be remotely located and coupled via a network. Data representative of the relationship of each incremental backup to its respective parent backup is stored in a dependency data structure, preferably a tree-like structure. Different types of incremental backups may be performed to provide different data granularity. When two or more storage media are used in a rotational manner, each medium always contains a complete backup. The backup storage device is automatically managed by paring at least one of a full and incremental backup at the backup storage device automatically in accordance with a plan. The plan is preferably configured to manage an amount of available storage space at the backup storage device.

  • Patent number: 7162536
Abstract: An OP-N connection is mapped through a communications network between first and second end-nodes via at least one intermediate node. The integrity and validity of the OP-N connection can be determined independently of SONET/SDH lines, sections or paths mapped through the network, and potentially utilizing bandwidth of the OP-N connection. Validation of the OP-N connection can be accomplished by inserting performance monitor (PM) information into a data signal at the first end-node. In some embodiments, the PM information is inserted into an unused portion of the transport overhead (TOH) of a SONET/SDH data signal. At each intermediate node between the first and second end-nodes, the PM information is extracted from the data signal, buffered while the data signal is pointer processed, and the reinserted before forwarding the data signal. Finally, a the second end-point, the PM information is extracted and examined.

  • Patent number: 7160230
Abstract: A system for use in an exercise apparatus for synchronizing the movement of the upper limbs comprises a shaft mounted for rotation about its longitudinal axis, left and right pulleys mounted at opposed end portions of the shaft, and left and right handlebars respectively connected to the left and right pulleys and pivotable therewith about the longitudinal axis of the shaft. Left and right one-way clutches are provided for respectively transmitting a torque from the left and right pulleys to the shaft in one direction, while allowing the left and right pulleys to rotate freely relative to the shaft when driven in an opposite direction. First and second cables are connected in parallel between the left and right pulleys to communicate a movement imparted to one of the pulleys to the other pulley but in an opposite direction, thereby causing the handlebars to pivot in an inverted synchronized fashion.
