  • Patent number: 6362241
Abstract: The invention relates to processes and apparatus for the production of a virgin polymer substitute from cured scrap rubber, such as automobile tires, which does not involve the use of solvents or other chemicals and which substantially maintains the physical properties of the virgin material in the substitute. The process and apparatus may perform an initial analysis of the scrap material to be treated and determination of the process parameters for that particular material. Actual treatment of the material comprises grinding of the scrap rubber and preconditioning the ground material by subjecting it to warm dry air prior to subsequent treatment in a high temperature and pressure environment. The high temperature and pressure environment is created by means of a pressure vessel into which the preconditioned material is introduced, thereafter exposing the material to a variable high pressure and temperature environment which is controlled to optimize devulcanization of the material.

  • Patent number: 6336537
Abstract: An integrated wheel end assembly for a vehicle including a wheel hub, a stub shaft, a torque flange and a bi-directional overrunning clutch member is configured such that the clutch automatically acts as a hub lock. The wheel hub is drivingly engaged to a drive flange mounted at an inboard end thereof. An outer circumference of the drive flange has a plurality of external teeth spaced evenly therearound. An outboard end of the stub shaft is rotatingly supported in the wheel hub and an inboard end thereof defines a housing for a CV joint. This CV housing and the drive flange are positioned axially adjacent to each other. The bi-directional overrunning clutch member comprises two clutch plates, one drivingly connected to the CV housing and the other drivingly connected to the drive flange. In a first configuration the clutch plates are disengaged such that the rotating CV housing causes only the corresponding clutch plate to rotate and no drive torque is transferred from the half shaft to the wheel hub.

  • Patent number: 6302336
Abstract: A watering container with a rotatable nozzle having a plurality of water delivery patterns. In particular, a rotatable nozzle having a plurality of water delivery patterns is rotationally attached to a water spout on a watering container. A user can turn the rotatable nozzle to select the desired water delivery pattern. In a preferred embodiment of the watering container, the user may select either a steady stream water pattern or a dispersed rosette water spray pattern. The watering container includes an internal fluid reservoir which can vary in volume based on the needs of the user. Water exits the internal fluid reservoir and flows through the water spout and then through the water delivery pattern selected by the user on the rotatable nozzle when the watering container is properly tilted. An integral elongated handle on the watering container enables the user to reduce stress on their hand and wrist during the tilting process.

  • Patent number: 6300394
Abstract: A modified coal tar useful in roofing applications, containing coal tar, a nitrile butadiene rubber, and in some instances an effective amount of a plasticizer is prepared by heating the coal tar to a molten temperature, adding the rubber in powder form and agitating the material in a suitable high shear mixing apparatus until adequate phase inversion occurs between the polymer and the coal tar phase. After preparation, the material is cooled in containers until use, at which time it is heated to a flowable temperature and applied using a roofing mop or squeegee. Effective plasticizers include the alkyl esters of di-functional carboxylic acids, such as di-octyl adipate and di-octyl phthalate.

  • Patent number: 6296083
Abstract: An articulated railcar has several well car units for carrying shipping containers, highways trailers, or a combination of the two. The well car units permit the nose of a long highway trailer to overhang the articulated connection between two adjacent cars. A brake valve is located in a relief formed in the main bolster of one of the articulated units, out of the way of the overhanging trailer. Each well car unit has a side beam having a roll formed top chord reinforced by a top chord plate, a downwardly extending web, and a lower sill formed of a thick angle. The service, or auxiliary, and emergency brake reservoirs are mounted in a saddle bag configuration to the outside face of the webs of the opposite side beams of the articulated unit, tucked underneath the reinforced roll formed top chord.

  • Patent number: 6293889
Abstract: Limited slip motor vehicle differential assemblies having a suitable high-shear strength, non-hardening, material which selectively resists slip or differentiation between the axle shafts and the differential housing, between the differential side gears and the differential housing, and/or between the differential side gears and the differential pinion gears when slip or differentiation occurs between two motor vehicle wheels mounted on the same axle. Such an arrangement provides some level of torque to each motor vehicle wheel at all times. The amount of resistance to slip or differentiation between the two motor vehicle wheels can be adjusted as desired by selecting an appropriate high-shear strength, non-hardening, material to provide the desired level of resistance to slip or differentiation between the two motor vehicle wheels in the motor vehicle differential assembly.

  • Patent number: 6290623
Abstract: A removable support of motor vehicle differential side gear that facilitates machining which is added after the internal features of a two-piece motor vehicle differential case have been machined to position and support a motor vehicle differential side gear in the two-piece motor vehicle differential case and preclude gear movement therein. The removable motor vehicle differential side gear support is preferably fabricated from a structurally sound material, such as steel, and has a configuration similar to a washer. The removable motor vehicle side gear support is preferably removably secured to the two-piece motor vehicle differential case by, for example, mechanical fasteners, such a plurality of threaded bolts which pass through a corresponding plurality of clearance openings in the removable motor vehicle side gear support and are received in and secured in a corresponding plurality of internally threaded openings in the two-piece motor vehicle differential case.

  • Patent number: 6289949
Abstract: A preconditioned air adapter chute for attachment to a ring connector of an aircraft has a body adapted at a first end to attach a hose for transmitting the preconditioned air. The body is provided at a second end with a flange connecting to the ring connector. A compressive gasket is affixed to a surface of the flange which faces the ring connector. At least one clamp assembly, affixed to the body, has a handle and a clamp pivotably mounted in a housing. The handle and clamp are pivoted about separate pivot points, so that a cam action is obtained as the handle is moved from an open to a closed position. The clamp of each clamp assembly passes through a slot-like opening in the flange to allow engagement of the clamp in the connector.

  • Patent number: 6254171
Abstract: A slidable room assembly comprises a vehicle body having an opening formed in an exterior wall, and a reciprocable slideout unit or compartment disposed in the opening and slidable between a retracted position and an extended position. Sliding movement of the slideout unit is controlled by means of a drive mechanism which includes either one or two endless cables. A plurality of sheaves, rotatably mounted on the slideout unit, define a path for the endless cable or cables. This path includes a pair of parallel longitudinally extending courses disposed on opposite sides of the slideout unit. Anchors, attached to respective longitudinally extending courses of the cable(s) and to adjacent portions of the vehicle body, effect relative reciprocation between the slideout unit and the vehicle body. Sliding movement of the slideout unit may be either motor driven or manually powered.
