  • Patent number: 5688183
Abstract: A golf club head velocity monitor is disposed at or near the golfer's hands. The monitor is preferably detachably securable to the golfer's hands or a golf glove, so that a single monitor can easily be used with any club selected by the golfer. An inferential determination of club head velocity may be made from the output of a single accelerometer disposed to measure centripetal acceleration in the direction of the golf club shaft. The monitor may provide other functions such as timekeeping or scorekeeping functions.

  • Patent number: 5688291
Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, there is provided a single-step process and composition of a category-2 hair bleach which can simultaneously lighten the hair up to seven levels, and effectively neutralize any undesirable warmth that accompanies the lightening process. This is achieved by including in the bleach composition disperse dye molecules which the present invention has found to be both, stable in the bleach, and capable of depositing the desired amount of various permanent tones on the hair. These disperse dyes do not stain the scalp of the client or the hands of the hairdresser, but are substantive only to the hair fibers. The dyes fall into the classes of anthraquinones and azo compounds.

  • Patent number: 5686518
Abstract: An essentially stable monomer miniemulsion characterized by small monomer droplet size is prepared and is then polymerized to a polymer latex under free radical polymerization conditions. The monomer miniemulsions herein include, in addition to water, a surfactant, and a monomer or mixture thereof, one or more polymers which function as a polymeric co-surfactant. The monomer miniemulsions are characterized by average monomer droplet size of 10 to 500 nanometers, preferably 80 to 150 nanometers. The amount of polymer added as a co-surfactant is about 0.5 to about 5 percent by weight based on monomer weight. The monomer emulsion may contain either a single monomer or a monomer mixture. The monomer emulsion is polymerized under conventional emulsion polymerization conditions yielding a polymer latex having an average polymer particle size of 10 to 500 nanometers, preferably 80 to 150 nanometers, and a narrow particle size distribution, i.e., a polydispersity index of about 1.05 to about 1.40.

  • Patent number: 5678653
Abstract: A scaffolding system for holding and hanging wallboard in an overhead orientation while using only a mechanic and one helper is disclosed. The invention comprises a plurality of braces in a vertical, opposed, parallel relationship, having paired upstanding side members for maintaining a stable, untippable status. Each side member further has a recess on a lower end adapted for receiving a wheel for mobility. A plurality of rigid sections are horizontally disposed within the braces and form a platform for the mechanic and helper to stand on. A plurality of ladders urge the helper to mount one of the side braces after the wallboard is resting on a plurality of pintles against the side members. A plurality of wheels provide mobility for the system without disassembly of the system as the wallboard is installed overhead.

  • Patent number: 5676034
Abstract: In a hydraulic transaxle, a radial ball piston pump and motor combination receive input torque and translate it into output torque, the direction of which is determined by the position of a cam ring located in the transaxle housing. This cam ring is movable by means of a control shaft which is manually operated. The invention provides an extended control pin linking the control shaft to the cam ring and a channel formed in the transaxle housing. When the control shaft nears a neutral center position, the channel and its rounded edges provide a detented ramp into which the length of a portion of the control pin may be seated. A spring acting on the control shaft urges the control pin into the detented position.

  • Patent number: 5673776
Abstract: A vehicle drive mechanism as shown and described includes both a differential lock and an operating mechanism therefor, and a parking brake and an actuator mechanism therefor, in which the mechanism is constructed and arranged so that the differential lock mechanism can be actuated to lock out the differential without applying the parking brake so that application of the parking brake always locks out the differential. This may be accomplished by means of an actuator mechanism which includes a mechanical linkage extending from a parking brake piston surrounding the input shaft of the vehicle to a slidable member which engages a differential locking member in order to lock the differential. This linkage includes a slotted link which permits actuation of the differential lock independently of the vehicle brake, while inter-locking the vehicle brake actuator with a differential lock actuator so that setting the vehicle brake will always lock the differential.

  • Patent number: 5669974
Abstract: A continuous spray coating apparatus and process generally comprises a housing defining a closed coating chamber, the coating chamber having inlet and outlet openings. Automatic doors are provided to cover the inlet and outlet openings, and the opening and closing of the doors is selectively controlled such that only one of the doors will be open at any one time during the spray coating operation. The introduction of the coating composition into the chamber creates a predetermined atmosphere within the chamber which is substantially saturated with constituents of the coating material, and by means of the automatic doors and control thereof, introduction of air from the outside atmosphere into the chamber is substantially prevented to maintain a predetermined atmosphere within the chamber.

  • Patent number: 5664532
Abstract: A combined fuel supply and priming system for diesel engine is disclosed. The fuel supply portion of this system may be conventional and may include a fuel supply tank, a primary fuel filter, a fuel pump, a secondary fuel filter, and a plurality of injectors for injecting diesel fuel into combustion chambers of a diesel engine. A fuel line connects these parts so that diesel fuel flows through the parts in the order named. The fuel supply system may further include a return line leading from the injectors back to the fuel supply tank. The priming portion of the system includes a manually operated primer pump, which may be connected either in line with the other parts or via a bypass connection. When the primer pump is connected in line, it may be placed between the fuel pump and the secondary fuel filter. In line connection provides a single flow path for fuel used either for priming or for normal operation.

  • Patent number: 5664847
Abstract: The invention is directed to a vehicle front-drive axle assembly having a front differential including a housing supporting left hand and right hand one-piece assemblies. Each of the left hand and right hand assemblies extend outwardly from the housing, and include an axle tube having a first end coupled to the housing and a second end having an integral yoke member. The one-piece assemblies further have integral bracket assemblies having outwardly extending mounting portions for mounting of vehicle suspension components and for securing the axle assembly to the vehicle. Each of the left hand and right hand one-piece assemblies are manufactured by suitable casting procedures, providing an assembly which has greater structural integrity than when multiple components are welded together, and which reduces cost and simplifies assembly into the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 5662544
Abstract: A gear mesh configuration which eliminates independent means for retaining a gear in rotational contact with another. As illustrated by the mesh formed between the cooperating teeth of a side gear and pinion mate in a vehicle differential assembly, the mesh is formed axially and radially inward of the side gear as compared to conventional gear combinations. In this manner, an area is formed in the side gear which is outward of the teeth and which extends around the rear portion of a pinion to retain it in its desired position upon the supporting shaft. Because the gear mesh is now substantially sealed, this configuration also serves to create a limited-slip effect.

  • Patent number: 5662514
Abstract: A method for producing a cutting blade comprising the steps of obtaining a cutter head having a plurality of blade-receiving slots formed in a face thereof, positioning the cutter head in coordinate measuring machine, and inspecting a selected one of the slots using the coordinate measuring machine. Data obtained during the inspecting step is recorded on a recording medium transmitted to a computer of a numerical control grinding machine. A cutting blade blank is positioned in and ground by the computer numerical control grinding machine. The grinding step comprises the steps of generating selected finished surfaces of the cutting blade from the cutting blade blank and compensating for dimensional variations of the inspection data of the selected slot relative to dimensional design requirements of the selected slot.
