  • Patent number: 6125577
Abstract: The invention relates to a plant tray for holding and supporting potted plants. The invention includes a spacer support rack and at least one riser with a ring at its topmost surface. Within the ring is a plurality of tabs for supporting plant pots of different sizes. The spacer support rack is configured to allow equal spacing between the plants when placed in the plant tray. This allows for optimization of the health of the plant and the space available to the grower. The spacer support rack is constructed in a manner that multiple plant trays can be nested on top of each other, allowing them to be stored in a directly vertical arrangement maximizing the use of the storage space available.

  • Patent number: 6123175
Abstract: Interconnected vents for a motor vehicle axle assembly, transmission or transfer case which interconnects multiple vents at different locations together with another vent positioned at the highest point the lubricant travels. This allows the lubricant to flow out of one vent and return to the other vent without leaking onto the ground. Such an interconnected vent arrangement will minimize the extent of external lubricant leakage due to such factors as foaming of the lubricant, air entrapment in the lubricant, volumetric expansion of the lubricant due to elevated operating temperatures, pumping or splashing of the lubricant by internal rotating or moving parts, flow of the lubricant due to tilting of the motor vehicle, and thus the motor vehicle axle assembly, transmission and transfer case, and/or acceleration or deceleration of the motor vehicle.

  • Patent number: 6122951
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a disc brake backing plate with an edge hole which comprises the steps of first forming two substantially parallel grooves on the outer surface of the backing plate to define a raised section between the grooves. A channel is then formed within the raised section to define two ridges bounding the channel. Finally, the ridges are bent toward each other to define the hole.

  • Patent number: 6117235
Abstract: A machine and method for coating food or other product with a coating material may include a product conveyor belt and at least one roller assembly positioned to cooperate with the conveyor and accept product discharged therefrom. The roller assembly may include a roller and plate which are positioned adjacent one another and define a space therebetween. Products introduced to the roller assembly are pressed between the roller and plate to press the coating material into the product, thereby maximizing percentage pick up of the coating on the product. Additionally, the outer surface of the roller is configured to produce surface characteristics or textures in the coating material which are desired. Different surface characteristics or textures can be created by varying the outer surface configuration or by rotating the roller at a different speed relative to the plate.

  • Patent number: 6114591
Abstract: The chlorination of paraffins is carried out in the presence of water and in the absence of an organic solvent. In this way, it is possible to prepare highly chlorinated paraffins in a simple manner. The presence of hydrochloric acid even at high temperatures, has no deleterious effect on the quality of the product. The separation of the chloroparaffin from the hydrochloric acid is very good. An emulsion layer which hinders the transport of the chloroparaffin into downstream equipment does not occur.

  • Patent number: 6105227
Abstract: The invention provides a machine and methods for automated manufacture of tapered adjustable ducts, and particularly tapered adjustable take offs. A tube of material is cut into gores of predetermined configuration, coupling beads are formed in the gores and the gores are adjustably interconnected to one another to form the finished take off duct in an automated fashion. The apparatus for forming an adjustable duct member may include a housing including at least one work station formed therein. A die associated with the work station is selectively positioned at a predetermined location relative to a work piece positioned in association with the work station. A cutting and forming assembly associated with the work station cooperates with the die to selectively cut the work piece to form first and second members and to form a coupling bead in the first and second members which cooperate to reconnect the first and second members together at a predetermined angle.

  • Patent number: 6108226
Abstract: The apparatus and methods of the invention provide conversion of a wide range of utility voltages found worldwide, to a fixed nominal voltage level. The invention therefore provides the ability to "plug in" to virtually any power source, and produce a desired nominal voltage for operation of electrical equipment either alone or in conjunction with a UPS device. The voltage selection apparatus provides standard nominal levels of electrical power to equipment while utilizing power sources of varying voltage and frequency. The device is dynamically adaptive to the input power source, and maintains its output within a nominal range even where the input source varies to a substantial degree. The voltage selection apparatus comprises an input for receiving input AC voltage from a power source, and a transformer to produce an output voltage which is coupled to the input.

  • Patent number: 6102438
Abstract: A quick-to-the-ground integrated vehicle leveling and stabilizing apparatus which may be easily and accurately connected to the underside of a vehicle and which may be extended to an operative position and retracted to a storage position with a minimum of operator time and effort. The components of the present invention are self-aligning so that upon being extended to the operative position, the components are automatically properly positioned for the subsequent leveling and stabilizing operations. The apparatus has integral components that need not be separated from the leveling and stabilizing apparatus itself when the apparatus is retracted to a storage position. Furthermore, the apparatus has increased strength and durability relative to known devices.

  • Patent number: 6099666
Abstract: A variable rate quench system allows the cooling of a heated workpiece to be controlled more closely. A liquid quenchant used in the system has an initial temperature, density and heat extraction index. The system comprises a first tank containing the liquid quenchant and to receive the workpiece and a second tank communicated to the first tank. The first tank has a means for agitating the liquid quenchant around the workpiece and a supply of make-up liquid quenchant communicated thereto. The second tank has a slurry of a non-liquid solid phase quenchant modifier and a means for selectively controlling addition of the slurry to the first tank. A real time data acquisition system acquires and analyzes temperature, density and agitation rate of the liquid quenchant, calculates an instantaneous heat extraction index of the liquid quenchant and compares the difference between the calculated index and a predetermined ideal index. Corrective action to minimize the difference is then taken.

  • Patent number: 6089361
Abstract: An improved bushing assembly for the outboard end of a brake cam shaft is provided with a bushing which establishes a grease flow pathway within the bushing assembly. Grease enters an aperture formed in a boss of the brake spider which holds the bushing through a grease zerk which is aligned with a first radial hole in the bushing, so the fresh grease injected goes directly to a grease reservoir between the bushing and the shaft. Flow channels provided in the bushing interior surface guide the grease around the shaft to a second radial hole which is diametrically opposite the first radial hole. Sealing means on the shaft restrict grease flow axially from the bushing along the shaft. Grease may be purged through the second radial hole to an annular space between a flanged inboard end of the bushing and the periphery of the aperture, from which the grease may exit. The flanged end of the bushing has tabs for engaging slots in the boss to align the bushing and to prevent rotation within the aperture.

  • Patent number: 6076399
Abstract: A sewer basin has a tube mounted longitudinally in the basin to isolate the level sensing elements from particulate and non-soluble materials present in the basin which could contaminate the elements, which are used for selectively activating a pump in the basin. The liquid level in the tube is kept in equilibrium with the liquid outside of the tube by an aperture below the normal low liquid level. A filter is provided in the tube between the aperture and the level sensing elements. The filter is formed by a stack of filter elements mounted on an axial post extending into the tube from a bottom end cap. The elements are limited in their axial mobility on the axial post.
