  • Patent number: 6165400
Abstract: A multiply-acting powder metal press is disclosed for making green form double helical gear compacts. The press has inner and outer lower punches, and an upper, outer punch. The upper and lower outer punches have left hand and right hand external helical profiles as chosen to produce a desired helical gear. The punches co-operate with left hand and right hand helical dies carried by the press about the punches. The helical faces require that the dies rotate relative to the punches during operation. A cam and roller mechanism may drive this rotation. The compact forming process commences with an open position in which powder is introduced to a vacant lower die cavity. The upper portions of the press advance downward to close the cavity. All parts of the press except the lower inner, or transfer, punch then move downward at the same speed to transfer powder to the extremities of the cavity. When transfer is complete both lower punches may be stopped, while the upper punches continue to advance.

  • Patent number: 6167387
Abstract: This invention concerns a cashcard system for purchasing laundry services wherein the user is issued with a cashcard and a personal identification number. Each of the laundry facilities is provided with a terminal having means for verifying the user, means for verifying the card, means for updating the card with an amount requested by the user, means for saving the card identification and the amount revalued to the card and means for storing and forwarding at a later time the amounts revalued to the cards for credit verification by a central computer remote to the terminal. In addition, the terminal in verifying the card compares the card to a previously rejected cards before updating the card with a new amount requested.

  • Patent number: 6131441
Abstract: A test plug assembly which tests the integrity of a segment of pipe having an internal diameter. The assembly comprises an annular body with opposite annular faces and defining on its outer perimeter, an annular recess, a pair of bosses, a pair of resilient annular members adapted to be respectively juxtaposed between an adjacent boss and annular face, means for urging the bosses respectively against the adjacent resilient annular member so as to urge the same frictionally engage and to seal against the internal diameter of the selected pipe segment and, means communicating through the assembly to that plenum now defined by said recess, the resilient annular members and the internal diameter of the pipe whereby the integrity of that pipe segment may be determined.

  • Patent number: 6099772
Abstract: This invention relates to a device to compact parts with an undercut out of powder material having an upper die moveable relative a lower die, at least one upper punch associated with the upper die for relative movement therebetween, at least two lower punches associated with said lower die for relative movement therebetween, the lower punches defining a lower cavity with the lower die for filling with the powder material when the dies are in an open position, the upper die contacting the lower die in a closed position for movement of one of the lower punches towards the upper die so as to transfer the powder material towards the upper die and then to compact the powder material between the upper and lower punches with said dies in the closed position so as to produce said part; said dies moveable to an eject position for ejection of the compacted part.

  • Patent number: 6096050
Abstract: The present invention provides a system and process for correlating points on a spatial body to corresponding points on a database body formed from pre-aquired images of the spatial body. The system and process involve matching the spatial points with the corresponding database points using relative positional information between the spatial points and the database points. Symmetric false matches are detected and discarded by fitting the spatial points and database points to a first and second closed body, respectively, and comparing the orientation of the spatial points and the database points projected onto the closed bodies.

  • Patent number: 6035518
Abstract: A method for preparing a cylindrical separator from sheet material and for inserting the separator in the cylindrical anode space of a semi-finished cell, in which the separator is wound from a sheet material around a mandrel to have a diameter smaller than the diameter of the anode space so that the sheet is temporarily affixed to the outer surface of the mandrel by providing vacuum through the mandrel wall, and the so obtained winding is inserted axially in the cathode cylinder. When the insertion is ready, the vacuum is disrupted, and the wound structure expands and presses against the cathode wall.

  • Patent number: 5957844
Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method for visualizing internal images of an anatomical body. Internal images of the body are acquired by an ultrasound imaging transducer. The position and orientation of the ultrasound imaging transducer is tracked in a frame of reference by a spatial determinator. The position of the images in the frame of reference is determined by calibrating the ultrasound imaging transducer to produce a vector position of the images with respect to a fixed point on the transducer. This vector position can then be added to the position and orientation of the fixed point of the transducer in the frame of reference determined by the spatial determinator. The position and orientation of a medical instrument used on the patient are also tracked in the frame of reference by spatial determinators. The position and orientation of the instrument is mapped onto the position and orientation of the images.

  • Patent number: 5951049
Abstract: Attachment for an in-line skate of the kind having a plurality of linearly-aligned wheels comprising chocks which arrest rotational movement in adjacent wheels at the front of the skate and at the back of the skate. An elastomeric member biases the chocks in operative alignment and joins them so that they can be spaced from each other to receive a selected number of wheels in-between. The elastomeric member has first and second end loops which are fastened to respective ends of the associated skate.
