  • Patent number: 7722015
Abstract: The present invention provides an internal shape of a rotor for a two-bore rotary carburetor used in a stratified scavenging engine whereby an engine for a power saw, lawn mower, or the like can be stabilized in the course of a complete change in orientation during idling. A groove pocket (10) in communication with a fuel supply-side bore (8) is formed at the aperture edge of each of the upstream end and the downstream end of a carburetor rotor valve (6) toward an accelerated rotation direction in the fuel supply-side bore (8) of the rotor valve (6). The groove pocket (10) is shaped so as to gradually rise and decrease in cross-sectional surface area toward the accelerated rotation direction along a peripheral surface of the rotor valve (6).

  • Patent number: 7723942
Abstract: An integrated motor and position sensor achieves motion between a moving portion and a stationary portion by electrically energizing poles to interact with magnetics respectively on the moving and stationary portions. The position sensor includes a plurality of sensing coils placed to intercept the magnetic flux between a plurality of the poles and the magnetics. The outputs from these coils are fed to a microprocessor DSP through an internal or external A/D converter. The microprocessor or DSP decodes the measured voltages using resolver strategies to produce a position, velocity or acceleration measurement.

  • Patent number: 7719199
Abstract: A system and apparatus for controlled fusion in a field reversed configuration (FRC) magnetic topology and conversion of fusion product energies directly to electric power. Preferably, plasma ions are magnetically confined in the FRC while plasma electrons are electrostatically confined in a deep energy well, created by tuning an externally applied magnetic field. In this configuration, ions and electrons may have adequate density and temperature so that upon collisions they are fused together by the nuclear force, thus forming fusion products that emerge in the form of an annular beam. Energy is removed from the fusion product ions as they spiral past electrodes of an inverse cyclotron converter. Advantageously, the fusion fuel plasmas that can be used with the present confinement and energy conversion system include advanced (aneutronic) fuels.

  • Patent number: 7721036
Abstract: A target interface system for flexibly routing and timing communication signals exchanged between selected components of a communication system and methods for manufacturing and using same. Under the control of a host system, the target interface system samples an output data signal provided by the host system and includes a reconfigurable datapath for flexibly routing the sampled data signal to a selected target I/O pin of the target interface system. The selected target I/O pin provides the sampled data signal as an outgoing target data signal to a target system and likewise receives an incoming target data signal from the target system. Upon sampling the incoming target data signal, the target interface system flexibly routes the sampled data signal to the host system as an input data signal. The target interface system thereby facilitates exchanges of communication signals between the host system and the target system.

  • Patent number: 7715783
Abstract: A vehicle information system for passenger vehicles, such as automobiles and aircraft, and methods for manufacturing and using same. The vehicle information system includes a universal antenna system and a universal receiver system for receiving viewing content provided by diverse content sources during travel, including international travel. The universal antenna and receiver system provide selected viewing content for distribution throughout the vehicle information system and presentation via one or more passenger interfaces. As the vehicle approaches the coverage region of a selected content source, the vehicle information system automatically reconfigures the universal antenna and receiver system to receive viewing content from the content source without requiring manual adjustment to, or replacement of, the universal antenna system and/or the universal receiver system.

  • Patent number: 7711422
Abstract: Adjusting the maximum ventricular stimulation frequency according to the hemodynamic state of the patient in an active implantable medical device. This device provides for limiting ventricular stimulation to a maximum frequency (Fmax), the rate of delivery of the stimulation pulses, measuring an intracardiac bio-impedance (Zn, Zn+1), and adjusting the maximum frequency according to the measured intracardiac bio-impedance. The adjusting process can include evaluating a parameter representative of the cardiac flow (dn, dn+1) utilizing the intracardiac signal of bio-impedance; controlling a predetermined variation (X %) of the frequency (f) of delivery of the stimulation pulses; evaluating the correlative variation (y %) of the cardiac flow; and adjusting the value of the maximum frequency (Fmax) according to the variation of the cardiac flow thus evaluated.

  • Patent number: 7711361
Abstract: A method and system for distributed roaming in a wireless mesh network are disclosed. Cells are able to track and predict a users movement throughout the network. The user's roaming profile is forwarded to predicted future cells before the user actually enters those cells. When the user enters a new cell, roaming is completed without communication to any other cells. Thus, handoff time is reduced and users may more seamlessly move throughout the network coverage area.

  • Patent number: 7710504
Abstract: A remote control system and method comprising a television and a light pointing apparatus adapted, in a first embodiment, to transmit a first narrow beam having a first frequency corresponding to visible light, which is used to give an indication of where the pointer is pointed, and a second expanded beam surrounding the first beam and comprising a second frequency corresponding to infrared light. In a second embodiment, the pointer transmits a single frequency modulated light beam. In operation, the beam of light is shown on the television screen to activate an on screen menu based user interface via a photo sensor, microprocessor and onscreen display controller. Screen menu items appear on the screen positioned around the periphery of the screen. The user then moves the beam of light on the screen to the periphery of the screen to optically engage one of the plurality of photo conductors, which triggers an appropriate menu sequence or the performance of a television function such as, e.g., channel up.

  • Patent number: 7702690
Abstract: The invention comprises a set of complementary techniques that dramatically improve enterprise search and navigation results. The core of the invention is an expertise or knowledge index, called UseRank that tracks the behavior of website visitors. The expertise-index is designed to focus on the four key discoveries of enterprise attributes: Subject Authority, Work Patterns, Content Freshness, and Group Know-how. The invention produces useful, timely, cross-application, expertise-based search and navigation results. In contrast, traditional Information Retrieval technologies such as inverted index, NLP, or taxonomy tackle the same problem with an opposite set of attributes than what the enterprise needs: Content Population, Word Patterns, Content Existence, and Statistical Trends. Overall, the invention emcompasses Baynote Search—a enhancement over existing IR searches, Baynote Guide —a set of community-driven navigations, and Baynote Insights—aggregated views of visitor interests and trends and content gaps.

  • Patent number: 7700416
Abstract: The process uses a sacrificial stressor layer to provide tensile strained surface regions for bulk silicon or silicon on insulator (SOI) substrates. The process deposits a sacrificial layer of silicon germanium on the surface of the substrate and then patterns the workpiece to form trenches extending through the silicon germanium stressor layer into the semiconductor substrate. The process fills the trenches with insulating materials and then removes the silicon germanium stressor layer, for example using wet etching, leaving a strained silicon or SOI substrate with a pattern of shallow trench isolation structures. The trench fill material is selected to stress the regions of silicon between the trenches to provide a tensile strained surface region to the semiconductor substrate. Such a strained semiconductor surface region can have improved mobility properties and so is advantageous for forming devices such as MOSFETs.
