  • Patent number: 8218901
Abstract: A method for mosaicing frames from a video sequence is disclosed. Each frame is constituted by a point cloud, and each point in the point cloud is potentially acquired at a different time. The method involves compensating for motion and motion distortion due to acquisition time differences in each frame, applying a global optimization of inter-frame registration to align consistently the frames, and applying a reconstruction algorithm on the registered frames to construct a mosaic.

  • Patent number: 8219762
Abstract: A synchronization technique for shared-memory multiprocessor systems involves acquiring exclusive ownership of a requested memory location for a predetermined, limited duration of time. If an “owning” process is unpredictably delayed, the ownership of the requested memory location expires after the predetermined duration of time, thereby making the memory location accessible to other processes and requiring the previous “owning” process to retry its operations on the memory location. If the “owning” process completes its operations on the memory location during the predetermination duration of time, the ownership of the memory location by the “owning” process is terminated and the memory location becomes accessible to other processes.

  • Patent number: 8215155
Abstract: A rheometer is provided for measuring rheological properties of a filtercake. The rheometer comprises a cell for containing a pressurised fluid supporting a particulate suspension. The cell has two outlets for removing the fluid from the cell. The cell further has a respective foraminous body at each outlet, such that the particulate suspension forms a filtercake on a surface of each foraminous body as pressurised fluid filters through the body when the fluid passes from the cell to the respective outlet. The foraminous bodies are translatable relative to each other, such that the filtercakes formed on said surfaces can be approached to form a unified filtercake. The foraminous bodies are also rotatable relative to each other. The rheometer further comprises a torque sensor for measuring a torque required to rotate the foraminous bodies relative to each other. The measured torque is indicative of one or more rheological properties of the unified filtercake.

  • Patent number: 8219993
Abstract: A device, system, and method are directed towards managing power consumption in a computer system with one or more processing units, each processing unit executing one or more threads. Threads are characterized based on a cycles per instruction (CPI) characteristic of the thread. A clock frequency of each processing unit may be configured based on the CPI of each thread assigned to the processing unit. In a system wherein higher clock frequencies consume greater amounts of power, the CPI may be used to determine a desirable clock frequency. The CPI of each thread may also be used to assign threads to each processing unit, so that threads having similar characteristics are grouped together. Techniques for assigning threads and configuring processor frequency may be combined to affect performance and power consumption. Various specifications or factors may also be considered when scheduling threads or determining processor frequencies.

  • Patent number: 8214836
Abstract: A method for scheduling computing jobs in a scheduling event. A computing node is identified that is able to satisfy the required resource during a first time period. A second computing job is determined to have previously been scheduled to execute during a second time period, where the second time period overlaps a first time period. Execution of the second computing job is preempted if the first computing job's priority is greater than the second computing job's priority by at least a threshold amount, and if preempting the second job frees the required resource for use by the first computing job. Execution of the first computing job is scheduled to take place on a first computing node during the first time period, where a start time associated with the first time period is a time selected from the group consisting of a current time and a future time.
