  • Patent number: 7650933
Abstract: A baffle for a heat exchanger tube extending between opposed header pipes. The baffle is a longitudinal member with a concave underside shape conforming to the convex circumferential shape of the heat exchanger tube, and has a length substantially equal to the distance between the header pipes. A lip having a convex top side shape conforming to the concave underside shape of the longitudinal member extends along one longitudinal edge of the member. Two such members can be nested together by overlaying the non-lipped longitudinal edge of a one member atop the lipped longitudinal edge of the other member. A plurality of longitudinally aligned heat vent slits extend substantially the entire length of an uppermost portion of the member.

  • Patent number: 7648305
Abstract: Coupler has a safety lock and a latching hook. The safety lock pivots between an unlocked position in which it does not contact a first implement pin receivable within a pair of apertures, and a locked position in which it retains the first pin within the apertures. The latching hook pivots between an unlatched position in which it does not contact a second implement pin receivable within another pair of apertures, and a latched position in which it retains the second pin within the apertures. A spring biases the safety lock toward the locked position, maintaining engagement of the safety lock with the first pin and preventing its withdrawal from the apertures in the event of a hydraulic system failure. When the implement is released, the spring continues to bias the safety lock toward the locked position, preventing withdrawal of the first pin from the apertures in the event of a hydraulic system failure before completion of the release operation.

  • Patent number: 7649217
Abstract: An active electronic device has drain and source electrodes that make ohmic conduct with a layer of a semiconductor. The semiconductor layer may be a thin layer of an organic or amorphous semiconductor. The drain and source electrodes are on a first face of the layer of semiconductor at locations that are spaced apart on either side of a channel. The device has a gate electrode on a second face of the layer of semiconductor adjacent to the channel. The gate electrode makes a Schottky contact with the semiconductor to produce a depletion region in the channel. The gate electrode may encapsulate the channel so that the channel is protected from contact with oxygen, water molecules or other materials in the environment. In some embodiments, the device has an additional gate electrode separated from the semiconductor layer by an insulating layer. Such embodiments combine features of OFETs and MESFETs.

  • Patent number: 7625564
Abstract: A recombinant fusion protein comprising a human erythropoietin peptide portion linked to an immunoglobulin peptide portion is described. The fusion protein has a prolonged half-life in vivo in comparison to naturally occurring or recombinant native human erythropoietin. In one embodiment of the invention, the protein has a half-life in vivo at least three fold higher than native human erythropoietin. The fusion protein also exhibits enhanced erythropoietic bioactivity in comparison to native human erythropoietin. In one embodiment, the fusion protein comprises the complete peptide sequence of a human erythropoietin (EPO) molecule and the peptide sequence of an Fc fragment of human immunoglobulin IgG1. The Fc fragment in the fusion protein includes the hinge region, CH2 and CH3 domains of human immunoglobulin IgG1. The EPO molecule may be linked directly to the Fc fragment to avoid extraneous peptide linkers and lessen the risk of an immunogenic response when administered in vivo.

  • Patent number: 7591094
Abstract: The light emitting surface of an image display light box is formed of multi-layer optical film having a reflectance greater than 95% and preferably about 99% or greater. This more efficiently utilizes light rays emitted by the light box's internal light source, since the multi-layer optical film reflects the light rays many times before the rays are absorbed and lost. Consequently, the light emitting surface can have a light transmissivity characteristic which is macroscopically invariant as a function of position on the light emitting surface. Light boxes utilizing prior art reflective materials require cumbersome, time-consuming, iterative trial and error techniques which must be customized for each light box in order to compensate for light absorption losses by imparting a variable transmissivity characteristic to the reflective material.

  • Patent number: 7585269
Abstract: A centrifugal separator of the type having migration, retention and lip zones of the interior surface of the rotating bowl has a variable diameter lip to increase the amount of target material retained in the retention zone. The lip zone's variable diameter is provided by a flexible cylindrical member having an inner diameter which is selectively and uniformly decreased or increased by variation of the pressure applied to the member. By progressively decreasing the inner diameter of the lip zone the volume of retained material is increased over the cycle of the separator.

  • Patent number: 7572308
Abstract: An apparatus for installing and removing candles from a packed tower comprises a rail or series of rails attached to the inside of the top of the vessel. The rail(s) may be supported from either the roof or walls of the tower. A traveler assembly is supported on the rail(s). The traveler assembly supports a hoist puller that in turn raises and lowers the candles. The rail(s) may be located such that they extend over the centerlines of each of the candle locations, and each such that a portion of each rail passes under the candle installation port. Multiple traveler assemblies may be used to increase the speed of installation. The traveler assembly may be configured to be removed when not in use, to ensure it is not exposed to the harsh environment in the tower. Alternatively, the traveler assembly may be constructed from corrosion-resistant materials, so that the traveler assembly may be left in the tower.
