  • Patent number: 7298808
Abstract: The invention provides a synchronizer incorporating a ?-? modulator (i.e. a bit stuffing command generator), coupled in series with a frequency offset measurement block and a frequency-locked loop, to synchronize the data rate of an output data stream to that of an input data stream such that jitter energy is shifted up in frequency, simplifying attenuation of the jitter energy when the output data stream is desynchronized (demapped). Placement of the ?-? modulator outside the frequency-locked loop allows selectable adjustment of the frequency offset measurement block's frequency. A mapper incorporating the ?-? modulator interprets the pulse train output by the ?-? modulator as stuff/null/de-stuff commands.

  • Patent number: 7291186
Abstract: A solid porous zinc electrode for use in alkaline-zinc batteries, zinc-air batteries and fuel cells is provided which comprises specific zinc filaments, fibers, threads or strands compressed into a physically-stable wooly mass to form the electrode with a controlled geometrical shape and porosity distribution. Differential densification incorporates ribs, borders, grids or tabs for good structural integrity, mechanical strength, electrochemical behavior, and electrical conductivity. Pressing in a mold or rolling of a compressed sheet can also provide an anode with a large anode/cathode interface area and a complex geometry. The filaments of controlled dimension and composition are preferably made by spin forming from molten zinc alloys. Such anodes are not susceptible to breakage, have a long storage life and can be used in high rate discharge applications.

  • Patent number: 7292568
Abstract: A timeslot interchange switch has a three stage pipelined construction. A cross-connect stage identifies egress timeslots for which there is a corresponding data source. The cross connect stage has a set of flags which indicate whether or not there is a data source for each of a plurality of egress timeslots. The cross connect stage takes the flags in groups. If one or more flags in a group indicates an egress timeslot has a corresponding data source then information identifying the egress timeslot is passed to a connection scheduler via a FIFO. The connection scheduler looks up the data source for each the egress timeslot.

  • Patent number: 7288924
Abstract: A method and apparatus for digitally controlling the average input current of a switch mode power supply are disclosed. In preferred embodiments, the switch mode power supplies are DC-DC converters. One aspect of the invention relates to a method for controlling the switch of a switch mode power supply by digitally sampling the input current once during each power supply switching cycle at a time that is synchronized with the switching cycle. The predetermined time at which the input current is sampled may be midway through the time that the switch is in the “ON” state. This midway time may also be delayed slightly to compensate for delays associated with the switch.

  • Patent number: 7286280
Abstract: A brightness enhancement film having a monolayer of approximately hemispherical, transparent, closely packed larger diameter hemi-beads. Due to the hemi-beads' hemispherical shape, gaps remain between adjacent ones of the larger diameter hemi-beads. A substantial number of the gaps are provided with at least one approximately hemispherical, transparent hemi-bead having a diameter substantially less than the diameter of the larger diameter hemi-beads. Provision of smaller diameter hemi-beads within the gaps increases the film's reflectance value, such that the film's apparent brightness declines as a relatively smooth, continuous function of viewing angle, for viewing angles ranging from 0° (normal incidence) to about 40°, which is the preferred angular viewing range.

  • Patent number: 7286570
Abstract: Apparatus for transmitting a data stream between cards connected by a midplane breaks the data stream into a plurality of channels. The apparatus comprises a serializer for each channel. Serialized data is transmitted across the midplane to a deserializer at the destination. Sequential cells are sent in different channels. Cell ordering is preserved by staggering the start of cell transmission in the channels. The invention permits data to be transmitted across a mid plane using a reduced number of data lines. The data stream on each card may be carried in a wide bus at a relatively low clock rate. Apparatus according to the invention may be used to transmit an OC-192 data stream across a pin-limited interface.

  • Patent number: 7286533
Abstract: A bridge has a shared forwarding database and a plurality of ports. The bridge handles data associated with multiple virtual local area networks (VLANs). The shared forwarding database includes static entries for one or more devices which belong to multiple VLANs. Upon receiving data addressed to one of the one or more devices the bridge determines that the data should be source routed by retrieving the static entry from the shared forwarding database. The bridge then selects a bridge port to which the data should be forwarded on the basis of information in the data, such as a VLAN ID field.

  • Patent number: 7258046
Abstract: A retainer for constraining slidable movement of a sleeve along a shaft between open and closed positions. An end cap is fixed on the sleeve's rearward end, forming a recess between the sleeve's rearward end and the end cap. The retainer is slidable in and along the sleeve. A pair of flexible, transversely opposed ribs are provided at the retainer's rearward end. A lug projects outwardly from each rib's rearward end. A spring normally biases the ribs outwardly, biasing the lugs into the recess when the sleeve is closed to retain the sleeve in the closed position. When the sleeve is closed, application of a force to move the end cap rearwardly away from the shaft compresses the lugs inwardly, compressing the ribs against the spring and overcoming the spring's outward bias, such that the lugs circumscribe a reduced circumference permitting slidable movement of the lugs through the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 7259476
Abstract: A power supply for point-of-sale (POS) devices. The power supply comprises a transformer with first through fourth windings. An AC input is connected through a backfeed relay to the first winding. An AC output is also connected to the first winding. A battery and an inverter are connected to the second winding. A charger is connected to the third winding. A rectifier, DC/DC regulator and a DC output are connected to the fourth winding. When AC power is received at the AC input, the AC output and the transformer receive the AC power through the backfeed relay. The DC output receives DC power through the DC/DC regulator and the rectifier, which receives AC power through the transformer. When AC power is not received at the AC input, the battery and the inverter provide AC power to the transformer, and the AC output and the rectifier receive AC power from the transformer. The DC output receives DC power through the DC/DC regulator and the rectifier.
