Abstract: This invention relates to linear motor compressors which operate without the use of oil and a gas bearing while providing a flexible suspension for such a compressor. Such structures of this type, generally, provide a highly reliable oil-free compressor for use with cryogenic refrigeration equipment so as to attain unattended, continuous operation without maintenance over extended periods of time.

Abstract: A composite body has a substrate with opposite major surfaces, the substrate has a solid ion-conductive electrolyte material region and at least a portion of at least one major surface of a solid ion-insulating material region, and at least one moderately deformable metallic element bonded directly to the ion-insulating material of the substrate, the metal of the metallic element different from the metal of the mobile ions of the solid ion-conductive electrolyte material region.
Abstract: A current limiting fuse is disclosed wherein at least one fuse element is positioned within and extends from a sealed electrically insulating glass member substantially filled with dielectric liquid. The glass member is positioned within an outer casing having electrical terminals and filled with granular material. The fuse element extends to the electrical terminals. The narrow space filled substantially with dielectric liquid defines the arc constrictor while the outer casing defines the plasma cooler space.
Abstract: A sealed lithium electrochemical cell with sodium beta-alumina ion-conductive electrolyte is described which comprises a casing, an anode positioned within the casing, the anode selected from the class consisting of lithium, lithium as a solid alloy, and lithium in a non-aqueous electrolyte, a cathode positioned within the casing, the cathode functioning with a lithium-type anode and a solid sodium beta-alumina ion-conductive electrolyte, and a solid sodium beta-alumina ion-conductive electrolyte positioned within the casing between the anode and cathode and in contact with both the anode and cathode.
Abstract: A cathode cell casing and a hermetically sealed sodium-sulfur cell are disclosed. The metallic cathode cell casing is made of one of several specific metals. The cell casing includes also an opposed anode cell casing portion joined to a ring supporting an inner casing of a solid sodium ion-conductive material. A hermetically sealed sodium-sulfur cell has the above type of casing with a sodium negative electrode in the inner casing and a positive electrode of sulfur in conductive material in the cathode casing portion surrounding the inner casing. A high resistance electrical wire is positioned within the inner casing, contacts its closed end and extends to and contacts the interior surface of the anode casing portion.
