  • Patent number: 4823702
Abstract: A projectile for shooting from the muzzle of a shotgun formed with a nose cone connected to a launching tube by an interconnecting body. The nose cone has a weighted portion for providing aerodynamic characteristics thereto and a frangible portion. Upon impact against a target, the frangible portion breaks allowing the nose cone walls to deform in a mushroom-like manner, spreading the load over a larger area, thereby diminishing the amount of damage to a target to that of a nose cone which did not spread and mushroom from the breaking of frangible material therein.

  • Patent number: 4819263
Abstract: Hands-free two-way communication is achieved, without the necessity of selectively muting either the sent or received signal and without the generation of interfering acoustical feedback between the speaker and microphone at the hands-free station, by frequency offsetting the audio signal sent from the hands-free station. The audio signal is frequency offset by first modulating the audio signal at a first carrier frequency to produce modulated upper and lower sideband outputs. The modulated upper sideband output is filtered out, and the modulated lower sideband output is coupled to the input of a demodulator. The modulated lower sideband output is then demodulated at a second carrier frequency offset from the first carrier frequency by a predetermined amount. A demodulated upper sideband output and lower sideband output is thus generated. The demodulated upper sideband output is filtered out, and the demodulated lower sideband output is provided for transmission or broadcast in the two-way communication.

  • Patent number: 4810134
Abstract: The invention described herein is a buoyancy compensator for a diver having a single thickness wall formed of substantially non-stretchable material that has been coated with a meltable plastic. The buoyancy compensator walls on the interior portion with the meltable plastic are adhered to each other in rounded areas or ribs having rounded ends to avoid stress when the buoyancy compensator is under pressure and provide a conformation to the buoyance compensator with a limitation of expansion in different areas of the walls of enhancement of the overall configuration and improved buoyancy relationship of a diver at a particular portion of the buoyancy compensator. The entire buoyancy compensator is served by inflation means and overexpansion gas valving means. The buoyancy compensator is fitted and secured by means of belts and shoulder straps for respective waist adjustment and shoulder and side portion adjustment.

  • Patent number: 4807407
Abstract: A multi-story modular structure is constructed of a horizontal and vertical array of modular units. Each unit forms an enclosure of a space and is comprised of a perimeter frame, side walls rising from the perimeter frame and a ceiling truss connected to the side walls to complete the modular unit. The modular unit has integrated into the side wall four lifting points. Each lifting point includes the reinforcement within the truss structure and in the perimeter frame for receiving a lifting rod. Lifting rods, which form part of the lifting harness and not part of the modular unit are then placed into the modular unit and the unit can be horizontally or vertically moved by a construction crane through the use of a universal or reusable overhead harness.

  • Patent number: 4801004
Abstract: A magnetic disk storage case, having a boxlike portion with side and front walls, hinged by means of a binding to a top that overlies the boxlike portion. Attached to the binding is an articulated support ledge or shelf which is molded to the binding as well as the boxlike portion and the top in one injection molding process. The ledge or shelf is provided with two lateral tabs which extend outwardly through openings within two wall bracket portions depending from the top so as to allow the ledge to move backwardly and forwardly with the tabs being secured for their respective movement within the openings. This permits the ledge to be moved to a limited degree for expanding the space between the ledge and the interior surface of the top so as to provide greater access to magnetic memory disks stored on the ledge and held within the case.

  • Patent number: 4794631
Abstract: This specification sets forth a cardiovascular phantom. The phantom is adapted for placement on a table between an X-Ray tube and a film camera. The phantom is formed from absorptive material comprising at least one layer of metallic material on a plastic board. The metallic material is formed in the shape of arterial vessels from a radiopaque material. The radiopaque material and phantom absorb the X-Rays in an analogous manner to a person's heart. The phantom provides an analog to allow adjustments for the X-Ray process used for cardiovascular analysis.

  • Patent number: 4794086
Abstract: Method and apparatus for the measurement of sub-ppm concentrations of impurities in liquids. The liquid to be measured for impurities is dispersed into uniform droplets of a precisely known diameter D in a gas stream, such as air, using for example, a vibratory orifice generator. The dispersed droplets evaporate in the gas stream to leave a residue particle having a diameter d, which can be measured for example by means of a laser light scattering spectrometer. The concentration by volume, C.sub.v, of the impurities can then be calculated according to the equation; C.sub.v =(d/D).sup.3.

  • Patent number: 4788711
Abstract: A self-contained cellular emergency roadside call box is disclosed without the use of external telephone lines. The call box is solar powered with battery storage and comprises a controller coupled to a cellular transceiver. The controller is also coupled to a solar array and battery which is recharged through the controller. The call box communicates through a radio-telephone link established by the cellular transceiver to a cellular telecommunication system. The cellular telecommunication system includes a call site controller and mobile telephone switching terminal. Each call box comprises a plurality of status subcircuits for monitoring conditions such as battery condition and transmitter status. The call box communication and the status are processed by a micro processor which generates appropriate commands required by the cellular transceiver. Information can be transmitted bidirectionally between each of the call boxes and the communication applications processor.

  • Patent number: 4765596
Abstract: A racetrack convertible guardrail is disclosed herein which includes a plurality of spaced apart upright curved posts or stanchions. The curved posts or stanchions serve to support a racetrack rail which can be formed of metal or wood. Overlying the rail and the stanchions are a continuous number of sheets interfacing with each other to cover the stanchions and the rail for protection of a rider and a horse. Underlying the rail, stanchions and the protective cover is a second rail in the form of tubing or other rail forms supported by a hinged arm that can be utilized for sulky racing. The rail forms are supported by means of collars that are in turn supported by the hinged arm that underlies the stanchion. The collar and the tubing or rail forms can be connected to another form of stanchion that has a stake for supporting the stanchion, rail and tubing with the collars for purposes of grass racing and which can be removed by moving said stake and other components of the rail.

  • Patent number: 4759443
Abstract: The disclosure herein sets forth a closed electronic media container having a hinged top portion and a bottom portion with a partially removable frontal wall. The hinged top portion is hinged to the bottom portion along a truncated interface sloping from the back to the front to expose electronic media therein. The top portion rests on the bottom portion when it is canted backwardly on an interfacing surface. The frontal wall breaks away from the angular corners of the side walls on the bottom portion of the container on a flexed resilient basis to expose electronic media therein and is retained by two ledges on either side of the bottom portion of the container in tightened juxtaposition thereto, after cooling of the unit when it is injection molded and the frontal wall is inserted therein for frictional engagement.
