  • Patent number: 8190424
Abstract: A home evergreen index and frontier evergreen indexes are maintained. The indexes cover topically-limited subject areas, which include digital information. Each index defines a hierarchy of topics. Each index further matches a topic model to the topic hierarchy's topics. Each topic model includes a pattern evaluable against the digital information, which identifies such digital information matching the topic model's topic. At least one frontier evergreen index that includes topics that are at least partially distinct from the topics included in the home evergreen index is identified. Vetted assessments for articles identified by the at least one frontier evergreen index are obtained. The articles corresponding to the vetted assessments that are favorable are selected. The patterns that include the topic models of the home evergreen index are matched against the selected articles of the digital information. The selected articles of the digital information that were matched are provided on a display.

  • Patent number: 8176030
Abstract: A system and method for providing full-text search integration in XQuery is presented. A built-in search function defined in an XQuery language is implemented, and a full-text search is initiated. The search function includes one or more search terms and a relation logic. Variants for each search term in the search function are identified. Posting lists are obtained for one or more of the variants. Each posting list includes values offset from elements containing the search term associated with the variant to which the posting list corresponds. The relation logic is applied to the offset values of the posting lists. Those elements with offset values that satisfy the relation logic are selected. The elements that satisfy the relation logic are provided as results of the full-text search.

  • Patent number: 8165812
Abstract: A computer-implemented system and method for estimating power data for a photovoltaic power generation fleet is provided. Solar irradiance data is assembled for locations representative of a geographic region. The data includes a time series of solar irradiance observations electronically recorded at successive time periods spaced at input time intervals. Each observation includes measured irradiance. The data in the time series is converted over each time period into clearness indexes relative to clear sky global horizontal irradiance and the clearness indexes are interpreted as irradiance statistics. Each location's irradiance statistics are combined into fleet irradiance statistics applicable over the geographic region. Fleet power statistics are built as a function of the fleet irradiance statistics and the fleet's power rating.

  • Patent number: 8165811
Abstract: A computer-implemented system and method for determining point-to-point correlation of sky clearness for photovoltaic power generation fleet output estimation is provided. A physical distance between two points is obtained, each point being suitable for operation of a photovoltaic station. A temporal distance that includes the physical distance between the two points in proportion to cloud speed is determined. A correlation between sky clearness over the two points is evaluated as an empirically-derived exponential function of the temporal distance. A set of input clearness indexes for one of the points is correlated into a set of output clearness indexes indicating the sky clearness for the other of the points using a coefficient of the clearness index correlation.

  • Patent number: 8165813
Abstract: A computer-implemented system and method for efficiently performing area-to-point conversion of satellite imagery for photovoltaic power generation fleet output estimation is provided. Satellite imagery data of overhead sky clearness for a geographic region is accessed. Pixels within the satellite imagery data corresponding to a bounded area are identified. Each pixel represents collective irradiance within the bounded area. An area clearness index for the bounded area is set as an average of point clearness indexes derived from the collective irradiance for each point. A variance of the area clearness index is expressed as an average of the variance of the point clearness indexes. The variance of the area clearness index is proportioned to an area metric corresponding to each pixel's physical coverage area. A variance of the point clearness index is determined for one point as a ratio of the variance of the area clearness index and each pixel's physical coverage.

  • Patent number: 8161381
Abstract: A system and method for presenting message threads is provided. A main body and one or more excerpts are parsed from each of a plurality of messages into nodes structured to form a message tree through a procedural top-down recursive descent. The nodes in the message tree are related by determining line-group types for the main body and the excerpts of each message, which are enumerated into partitions for each of the line-group types. An output network of alternative paths through the messages is created based upon the partitions of the message tree. A document is formed from the output network to identify and remove redundant components in each message.

  • Patent number: 8156430
Abstract: A system and method for clustering nodes of a tree structure is provided. A plurality of messages is maintained. Each message is represented as a node in a tree structure. A word vector is assigned to each message. Pairs of the nodes are identified based on relationships in the tree structure. The nodes of one or more of the pairs are combined into clusters. Boundaries of each cluster are adjusted, including at least one of placing a root node into one such duster having a closest related child node, separating children nodes into distinct groups and retaining a relationship between a parent node and one such group including a nearest child node, and transferring a parent node to one such cluster having all children of the parent node. A digest of the messages, including one or more of the clusters is formed.

Abstract: A system and method for displaying groups of cluster spines is provided. Groups of cluster spines are obtained. Each group includes one or more spines with one or more clusters each associated with at least one concept. Group concept score vectors are generated for each of the spine groups by aggregating the concepts for that spine group. The group concept score vectors for the spine groups are compared and those spine groups that are unique are identified. The unique spine groups are placed into a display by arranging the unique spine groups at equal distance angles around a center ring provided in the display.

  • Patent number: 8139865
Abstract: A computer-implemented system and method for retrieving a digital image through document image decomposition is provided. A stored digital image is retrieved. Generic visual features are extracted. The features are grouped into a primitive layer including word-graphs that each include words and features. The words are grouped into a layout layer including zone hypotheses that each include one or more of the words. Causal dependencies between the word-graphs and the zone hypotheses are expressed through zone models that include a joint probability defining a pair of probabilistic models generated through a learned binary edge classifier. Each pair of probabilistic models is expressed as an optimal set selection problem including a set of cost functions and constraints. The optimal set selection problem is evaluated through a heuristic search of the cost functions and constraints and a non-overlapping optimal set of the zone hypotheses is provided that characterize the stored digital image.

  • Patent number: 8126705
Abstract: A system and method for automatically adjusting floor controls for a conversation is provided. Audio streams are received, which each originate from an audio source. Floor controls for a current configuration including at least a portion of the audio streams are maintained. Conversational characteristics shared by two or more of the audio sources are determined. Possible configurations for the audio streams are identified based on the conversational characteristics. An analysis of the current configuration and the possible configurations is performed. A change threshold is applied to the analysis. When the analysis satisfies the change threshold, the floor controls are automatically adjusted. The audio streams are mixed into one or more outputs based on the adjusted floor controls.
