    Abstract: A current sensor includes a deflectable member disposed in a magnetic field. Nulling or compensating members may be mechanically coupled to the deflectable member. Feedback or readout devices coupled to the structure provide signals indicative of deflection of the deflectable member under the influence of applied current and the magnetic field. Nulling current applied to the nulling members tends to oppose deflection of the deflectable member. The nulling current may be modulated to drive the feedback signal to a desired level and is used as a basis for calculating the current to be measured. The current may be measured directly upon calibration of feedback devices coupled to the deflectable member or to the nulling members. Arrays of sensors may be coupled to common busses for applying measured and nulling currents to sensors of the arrays and for detecting feedback signals.

    Abstract: A system for monitoring the operational status of a plurality of mechanical components, such as various bearings, speed reducers and the like. Each of the mechanical devices includes a respective local transmitter in electrical communication with various local sensors. Among the sensors which may be utilized are a temperature sensor and a shaft speed sensor, as well and an accelerometer for detecting vibration. The local transmitter receives information from the sensors and provides status information in a predetermined output format, such as a serial digital format. Unique electronic identifiers are assigned to respective of the local transmitters to facilitate selective communication with a central monitoring processor. As a result, the status information will be supplied to the central monitoring processor at predetermined times.

    Abstract: A corrosion-resistant antifriction bearing is disclosed that includes a multi-layer corrosion protection system over a metallic substrate. The corrosion-resistant system may be applied to a single or multiple components of the bearing, including inner and outer rings, bearing elements, collars, and so forth. The system includes a nickel-phosphorous alloy plating layer applied by an autocatalytic process after surface preparation of the protected component. The surface preparation aids in adherence of the nickel-phosphorous alloy plating layer to the substrate. The preparation may include the application of rust inhibitors, liquid vapor honing, acid neutralizing, and so forth. Additional topcoat layers may be applied to the nickel-phosphorous alloy plating layer. These may include a chromate conversion coating and a polymeric topcoat layer.

A timing circuit removes current from the second coil after a variable time period. The time period may be a function of the configuration of the timing circuit, such as an RC time constant, and of the energizing signal.

Insulation-piercing conductors within the base portion of the connectors complete electrical contact with conductors within the cable and provide an interface for component cabling, such as a multi-pin socket.     Abstract: An inverter circuit includes a pair of switching devices coupled in series across high and low sides of a direct current bus. An output line is coupled between the devices for conducting controlled alternating current power produced by timed switching of the devices. A flyback diode is electrically coupled a in parallel with each switching device and is physically positioned adjacent to the opposite switching device in the pair. Conducting paths between each diode and the associated switching device are preferably physically positioned adjacent to conducting paths between the switching devices and the output line. The placement of the elements cancels or reduces parasitic inductance during switching. Three similar arrangements may be provided in parallel in a three phase inverter. The inverter may be incorporated into a power substrate including a rectifying circuit for converting alternating current power to direct current power to be applied to the bus.

    Abstract: A gear reducer housing includes rotating assembly supports in a housing shell, and fixturing pads disposed about the periphery of the housing shell. The fixturing supports are formed in the casting blank from which the housing shell is machined. The pads permit the shell blank to be fixtured once for machining of various features of the final shell. The pads may be formed in a peripheral flange and the flange may be machined around the pads to form a sealing surface. Apertures may be provided in the flange to facilitate assembly of the gear reducer. The apertures and fixturing pads may be provided in mirror image locations about a centerline of the housing. The apertures may be slotted, with major axes of mirror image-located apertures having transverse major axes, such that inherent tolerance is provided for positioning fasteners used to assemble the product.

    Abstract: A circuit is provided for rectifying and amplifying an AC input waveform to optimize the dynamic range of downstream circuitry, such as an analog-to-digital converter. The circuitry includes an inverting amplifier and a non-inverting amplifier. The inverting amplifier includes a selectable resistance network in a feedback loop that permits the gain to be adjusted by appropriate selection of conductive states of solid state switches. The non-inverting amplifier includes a selectable resistance network on an input line. A control circuit, such as a microprocessor, monitors the output of the A/D converter and controls the conductive state of switches in the feedback and input networks to maintain the digital output within a desired portion of the dynamic range of the A/D converter. Several discrete gains may be provided and programmed in accordance with a predetermined selection scheme.

The first board supports an electromagnet assembly and conductive traces for transmitting energizing current to the electromagnet coil. The second board supports an armature which is displaced under the influence of the electromagnet assembly during energization, thereby pivoting the boards with respect to one another against the force of the biasing member, and moving the first and second contacts into engagement.

The pickup coil may be de-energized after an initial phase of operation. To permit rapid release of the holding coil, a control circuit interrupts an induced current path through the coil upon removal of power from the bus.

The bearing cavity is defined by annular elements on either side of an antifriction bearing set. Seals are provided on the sides of the bearing cavity and are secured to a support structure, such as the motor housing, and include elements which ride against the rotating shaft during operation. The seals exert a sealing force against the rotating element which results at least partially from internal pressure within the bearing cavity provided by a pressurized lubricant stream. The lubricant stream is provided in the form of an airborne oil mist.
