Abstract: Methods, systems, and articles of manufacture for proving global annotation services are disclosed. Global annotations are used to annotate a data element independently from the internal representation of a data element employed by a particular software application. Data elements are normalized into a form used by a global annotation system to identify the data element, and corresponding global annotations, independent from the application in which the data element may appear. An annotation cache may be used to store the global annotations that have been created for a particular data source, improving the efficiency of the global annotation system.

Abstract: An interactive electronic program guide is disclosed for use with a television delivery system. The guide is generated by a set top terminal that receives a television signal from an operations center and extracts from the signal individual programs for display on a television screen associated with the terminal. The guide is used to select programs and interactive features for display on the screen. The guide includes a plurality of interconnected menus having display information. The guide also includes a cursor controlled by the user input device for sequencing through the menus and selecting a menu item. The menus include an introductory menu displayed when the guide is started, a main menu that allows access to program submenus and interactive submenus, and during program menus. The during program menus include both overlay menus that are displayed during a program and hidden menus that are not displayed.
Abstract: This invention is a method of allocating bandwidth for a television program delivery system. This method selects specific programs from a plurality of programs, allocates the selected programs to a segment of bandwidth, and continues to allocate the programs until all the programs are allocated or all of the available bandwidth is allocated. The programs may be selected based on a variety of different factors or combination of factors. The selected programs may also be prioritized so that higher priority programs are distributed before lower priority programs in case there is not enough bandwidth to transmit all of the programs. This invention allows a television program delivery system to prioritize a large number of television programs and distribute these programs based on their priority levels. The invention also permits a television program delivery system to dynamically allocate bandwidth over time or based on marketing information, such as consumer demand.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for testing and characterizing features formed on a substrate. In one embodiment, a test structure is provided that includes a test element having a first side and an opposing second side. A first set of one or more structures defining a first region having a first local density are disposed adjacent the first side of the test element. A second set of one or more structures defining a second region having a second local density are disposed adjacent the second side of the test element. A third set of one or more structures defining a third region having a first global density are disposed adjacent the first region. A fourth set of one or more structures defining a fourth region having a second global density are disposed adjacent the second region.

Abstract: Thermo-optic devices including a bottom cladding layer, a patterned core material and a top cladding layer, each having a different refractive index, can be made by depositing a heater material, such as tungsten or chromium, on the outside of the bottom and/or top cladding layer. Depending on the refractive index differences between the cladding layers and the core layers, the amount of heater material can also be varied. The heater material can surround the cladding layers, can be present on the sidewalls and top only, or the sidewalls alone, to provide sufficient heat to change the refractive index of the layers and thus the path of light passing-through the device. These devices when built into the substrate can be connected to underlying devices for vertical integration, or connected to other devices and components formed on the same substrate for increased integration.
Abstract: Method of etching a ferroelectric layer includes etching an upper electrode and partially through a ferroelectric layer. A dielectric material is subsequently deposited upon the upper electrode and the partially etched ferroelectric layer. A second etch step completely etches through the remaining portion of the ferroelectric layer and also etches lower electrodes. A random access memory apparatus is constructed that includes a first conductive layer, a dielectric layer disposed upon the first conductive layer, a second conductive layer disposed upon the dielectric layer, where such layers form a stack having a sidewall. Further, the sidewall has a protective dielectric film disposed thereon and extending from the second layer down to the dielectric layer.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for routing harmonic energy within a plasma to ground in a plasma enhanced semiconductor wafer processing reactor. A model of the chamber is used to determine the pathway for RF power and the harmonic energy of that RF power through the chamber. From this model, the placement and design of a harmonic routing circuit is determined to shunt the harmonic energy to ground.

Abstract: An apparatus for supporting a substrate and a method for positioning a substrate include a substrate support, a stator circumscribing the substrate support, and an actuator. Abstract: A method and apparatus for transferring a substrate is provided. In one embodiment, an apparatus for transferring a substrate includes at least one end effector. A disk is rotatably coupled to the end effector. The disk is adapted to rotate the substrate relative to the end effector. The end effector may additionally include a sensor coupled thereto. The sensor is adapted to detect an indicia of orientation of the substrate supported by the end effector. In another embodiment, a method for transferring a substrate includes rotating the substrate disposed on an end effector and detecting an indicia of orientation of the substrate.
