Abstract: A wood preservative composition resulting from admixing components comprising: at least one preservative metal; a quaternary ammonium compound; at least 2 amine compounds; a pH reducing agent, and water, wherein the pH of the composition is from about 7.1 to less than 8.5. Surprisingly, this combination of materials results in a stable solution that can contain a moldicide yet have a commercially acceptable shelf life.

Abstract: A stabilizer composition comprising a) an amine and b) a compound selected from aliphatic, non-cyclic monomeric polyunsaturated hydrocarbons and terpenes is useful for stabilizing an organic solvent against degradation.
Abstract: This invention relates to a process for conducting equilibrium-limited reactions, such as esterification and alcoholysis reactions, that uses two reaction zones. The first reaction zone operates under reaction conditions that retain at least a portion of the product in a liquid phase, and at least a portion of the liquid from the first reaction zone is introduced into a second reaction zone which operates under conditions sufficient to crack heavies, for example, Michael-addition heavies, formed in or introduced into said second reaction zone and to vaporize at least a portion of the product upon production thereof. Such a process allows for removal of product from the reaction system while catalyst desirably remains in the reaction system.

Abstract: Superabsorbent polymers having a slow rate of absorption, and a process for their preparation. The superabsorbent polymer has a slow rate of absorption, is crosslinked with a covalent crosslinking agent and the metal of a polyvalent metal coordination compound, has the metal of the coordination compound distributed essentially homogeneously throughout the polymer, and has an Absorption Rate Index of at least about 5 minutes.
Abstract: This invention relates to a process for continuously producing halogenated hydrocarbons by: (1) flowing a feed mixture containing CO, H2 and a halogen source into a reaction zone containing a catalyst bed; (2) removing from the reaction zone the resultant reaction product which contains the desired halogenated hydrocarbons; and (3) maintaining the halogen source content in the feed mixture at from about the stoichiometric amount to about twice the stoichiometric amount needed to produce the halogenated hydrocarbons.
Abstract: A casting process for the preparation of whiteware ceramic articles employs a polyalkylene polyamine, such as tetraethylene pentamine, as an additive to increase the casting rate. The additive can be employed, e.g., in slip casting, vacuum casting and pressure casting. Optionally, the addtive includes a binder such as a styrene butadiene latex in an amount effective to maintain the green strength of the articles prepared in the casting process.

Abstract: Novel di(poly-substituted cyclopentadienyl)-allylic uranium complexes can be employed to catalyze the dimerization of propylene to form 4-methyl-1-pentene selectively. The novel catalyst complexes can be prepared from novel di(poly-substituted cyclopentadienyl)-U(IV) monohalo monoallylic complexes.
Abstract: Hydroxyaromatic compounds are amido-alkylated or cyano-alkylated to form the corresponding compounds by:(a) heating said compounds with an alkylating agent in the presence of water and a catalyst, e.g., benzyltrimethylammonium chloride;(b) adding an alkaline agent, e.g., NaOH, to the heated mixture of (a); and(c) continuing to heat the resulting mixture until the corresponding amido- or cyano-alkylated compound is formed.Fully or partially amido-alkylated compositions are useful in the preparation of copolymers with epoxy resins.
Abstract: A process for the preparation of a cellulose ether by reacting in a heterogenous reaction mixture an alkaline solution and an etherifying agent with a fibrous cellulose. The total of the required stoichiometric amount of the alkaline solution and at least a portion of the etherifying agent required in producing the cellulose ether are admixed (e.g. in a mixing nozzle) at sufficiently low temperature to suppress reaction between the alkaline solution and the etherifying agent. The admixture is then contacted with the cellulose fibers, preferably by spraying the admixture thereupon. Additional of the etherifying agent if required is then added to the reaction mixture, and the heterogenous reaction mixture is agitated and reacted at an initial temperature below 40.degree. C. sufficient to produce alkalization of the cellulose. Thereafter the temperature is increased above 40.degree. C., preferably incrementally or gradually up to about 100.degree. C., preferably to 80.degree. C.
Abstract: Metallic porphyrin complexes are useful as catalysts for the epoxidation of olefins at ambient temperature and pressure using oxygen, which preferably is supplied either as air or pure oxygen, without need for a coreductant.
Abstract: Monosubstituted saturated lower hydrocarbons are oxyhalogenated selectively to saturated dihalohydrocarbons at 180.degree.-350.degree. C. in the presence of a catalyst which is formed by depositing a variable valence metal compound on a zeolitic support in such a manner that the catalyst can be employed to selectively produce ethylene dichloride and ethylene from ethyl chloride.
Abstract: Novel 3,4,5-Tri(selena- or tellura-)tricyclo[5.2.1.0..sup.2,6 ]decanes and derivatives are prepared in high yield by contacting a bicyclo[2.2.1]hept-2-ene compound and selenium or tellurium in the presence of a solvent, and a catalyst.
Abstract: Synthetic raw materials are used to prepare a sintered refractory body consisting essentially of doped cordierite having from about 47.5 to about 56 weight percent SiO.sub.2, from about 31 to about 40 weight percent Al.sub.2 O.sub.3, from about 12 to about 19 weight percent MgO, from about 0.15 to about 1 weight percent CaO, from zero to 250 ppm Na.sub.2 O, and from zero to about 150 ppm K.sub.2 O, the body having a flexural strength of at least about 20,000 psi (about 140 MPa).
Abstract: A process for preparing dense, consolidated bodies, the process comprising compressing in a forging press an isostatic die assembly, the assembly comprising a preform surrounded by a fluid pressure-transmitting medium, the medium and the preform being contained in a shell having an open top; under sufficient conditions of temperature, time and pressure that a dense, consolidated body of desired shape is formed, and then recovering the body by separating the body from the fluid pressure-transmitting medium.
Abstract: Novel compositions useful in supplying bleach over a period of time are produced by contacting a polycarboxylic acid, a second polymeric compound, and a chlorine-releasing agent under the proper conditions.
