Abstract: A generally hat-shaped disc for a disc brake system is provided with an inner cylindrical surface serving as the drum of a drum in hat parking brake. A unitary backing plate supports the parking brake assembly and provides integral mounting parts for the fist type sliding caliper of the disc brake assembly.
Abstract: A filament wound wheel is shown having a high percentage of continuous fiber oriented in the optimum load bearing direction for maximum strength. Also shown is a manufacturing method for the wheel including the steps of polar winding a continuous filament on a split mandrel to form a filament winding, slitting the filament winding on the mandrel to form two preforms, placing the two preforms in a back-to-back configuration, pressing each preform upon its split mandrel under heat to cure and join the preforms and separating the split mandrels from the joined preforms.
Abstract: An electric door lock actuator includes an outer casing which houses a reversible electric motor. The motor is coupled to a inertial clutch assembly and a gear train to reciprocally move a rack which extends outwardly from the casing between an advanced and a retracted position. The clutch assembly includes a drive gear coupled to the electric motor, and driven gear connected to operate the rack through the gear train. The clutch also includes an inertially operated clutch plate eccentrically mounted on the clutch drive gear and having a pair of arcuately spaced driving teeth alternately operably engageable with the driven clutch gear when the motor is driven in either a forward or a reverse direction. The clutch is operative to connect the motor to either advance or retract the rack when the motor shaft is operated in either a forward or a reverse direction.
Abstract: A plant growing medium has a fabricated fibrous product having a density below 4.5 pcf, and preferably below 3.0 pcf, as a root supporting structure. The product comprises a pack of fibers, the fibers having a three-dimensional orientation and at least some of the fibers being glass fibers, and binder binding the fibers to each other at substantially every place of fiber-to-fiber contact.
Abstract: The composite stud is mainly a corrosion-resistant alloy, but is provided with a steel tip for flawless welding to a steel plate for use in a marine environment. The steel tip is friction-welded to the corrosion-resistant alloy before machining of the stud.
Abstract: The method comprises cutting a glass wool blanket with a circular cutting grid having elastomeric plugs in the grid spaces. The cut columns and the plugs are both compressed. The cut columns are ejected by expansion of the plugs.
Abstract: Core material of shaped glass fiber board is impregnated with resin in outer surface portions, the resin is cured, an additional resin casing is formed therearound, and the additional resin is cured. Glass strands may be included with the resin impregnation, and a continuous strand mat, a veil mat, and glass rovings may be included with the resin encasing.

Abstract: A double-wall tank having inner and outer walls bonded to connecting hollow annular ribs. A passageway through the ribs enable leak-detecting liquid to fill the spaces between ribs, within ribs, and between end caps.
Abstract: The chill rolls of the cooling section are hollow, open-ended rolls. Spray nozzles in each roll spray water on the instantaneously upper half of the interior periphery and a fan blows air through the roll to effect evaporative cooling. Three different arrangements of the spray nozzles are disclosed for always directing spray to only the upper half of each chill roll.
Abstract: The apparatus of each embodiment includes a suction housing having a perforated duct therein. Fibrous material supplied to the inlet of the duct is compacted by air being evacuated through the perforated sidewall of the duct. The continuous compacting of fibrous material aids in moving the already compacted material out the outlet of the duct.
Abstract: Sumps are mounted on manway fittings of underground tanks, and all piping runs are routed through a sump. Underground portions of pipes between a sump and a point above ground are provided with a double wall. Filling spills and leakage from pipes into the environment are thereby generally prevented.
Abstract: The splicing means includes a push-on sheet metal splicing member for mounting on an upper flange portion of an I-beam and presenting a vertically oriented backing portion for a pair of clamping strips securable respectively to opposite sides of the backing portion by self-tapping screws.
Abstract: The assembly includes a pultruded glass fiber reinforced resin strap each end of which is secured between a pair of plates. At each end the plates and the strap are apertured to receive a retaining rod.
Abstract: A wall construction comprising a plurality of horizontally spaced vertically extending studs, an insulation board mounted on an outer side of the studs, a scrim adhered to an outer side of the board, fastening means mechanically securing the board and scrim to the studs, and a coat of cementitious material covering the board, scrim, and fastening means, at least one of the studs being disposed between opposite vertical edge portions of the board, and the scrim having a greater number of vertically extending strands per inch of width in the vicinity of said at least one stud than in areas between the studs.
Abstract: In making entangled fibrous products by depositing fibers from streams of hot gas in which they are entrained, dust suppressant incorporated in the product by introducing at least a portion of it into the cooler region surrounding and separating the fiber-entraining streams of hot gas and communicating with the zone wherein the fibers are deposited minimizes smoke evolution as compared to introducing such portion into the hot gas streams.
Abstract: The fabric roof structure comprises a pair of vertically spaced upper and lower peripheral compression rings, a central tension ring, a plurality of tensioned upper and lower cables extending radially of the rings, being connected adjacent inner ends to the central tension ring, and being connected adjacent outer ends alternately respectively to the upper and lower peripheral compression rings, and roofing fabric associated with the cables and rings and covering the area from the central tension ring outwardly to the peripheral compression rings.
Abstract: A foamable liquid distributing apparatus comprising a composite block formed of two parts removably secured together and having an inlet passageway and a plurality of spaced outlet passageways. A plurality of connecting passageways respectively connect the outlet passageways to inlet passageway, with each of the connecting passageways being provided with a plurality of turbulence-producing bends to inhibit build-up of foam.
Abstract: The heating media feeder includes a hollow conical frustum facing an inlet in the drum end plate, an aperture in the periphery of the conical frustum, a baffle outside the conical frustum aligned with a leading edge of the aperture therein, a circular plate adjacent a smaller end of the conical frustum, an aperture in the circular plate forwardly offset from that in the conical frustum, and a generally V-shaped chute on an opposite side of the circular plate aligned with the aperture therein.
