Patent number: 7463124Abstract: Resettable circuit interrupting devices, such as GFCI devices, that include reverse wiring protection, and optionally an independent trip portions and/or a reset lockout portion are provided. The reverse wiring protection operates at both the line and load sides of the device so that in the event line side wiring to the device is improperly connected to the load side, fault protection for the device remains. The trip portion operates independently of a circuit interrupting portion used to break the electrical continuity in one or more conductive paths in the device. The reset lockout portion prevents the reestablishing of electrical continuity in open conductive paths if the circuit interrupting portion is non-operational or if an open neutral condition exists.Type: GrantFiled: October 28, 2004Date of Patent: December 9, 2008Assignee: Leviton Manufacturing Co., Inc.Inventors: Nicholas L. Patent number: 7435903Abstract: The instant invention discloses a receptacle having a shape along the width of its face that is flat in one plane and along its length that has a constant radius. The shape of the face of the receptacle allows for the proper seating of an inserted plug. The shape of a wall plate around the receptacle along a section which runs along its vertical axis defines a surface of positive first differential and zero second differential, comprised of a combination of splines drawn between points of varying distance from a datum plane. The surface has zero second differential when the rate of height increase of individual splines is constant. When ganged with a switch, the front surface of the switch follows the shape of the cover plate.Type: GrantFiled: February 7, 2006Date of Patent: October 14, 2008Assignee: Leviton Manufacturing Co., Inc.Inventors: Anthony Tufano, Dennis A. Oddsen, Leslie Lindenstraus, Steve Zacharevitz, Paul Endres

Patent number: 7431589Abstract: A dental prosthesis foundation capable of being finished or adjusted or repaired and which may be assembled and adjusted to variable jaw ridge sizes, and formed with self-curing hardened resins. The foundation supports prosthetic teeth and is permanently but removably secured to the jaw by implants embedded in hard dental tissue, such as tooth stubs or bones. The dentures can be readily repaired or adjusted for changes in the jaw of the patient, by chairside techniques available to dentists. The foundation can also be adjusted to changes in size and shape of ridges in the jawbones for more comfortable use of the dentures secured on such prostheses, by utilizing spheroidal or ovoidal locking caps preferably initially formed of non-adherent polymers.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 2006Date of Patent: October 7, 2008Inventor: Bernard Weissman

Patent number: 7414499Abstract: A ground fault circuit interrupter device having a single actuator for sequentially activating a circuit interrupting portion when the device is in a reset condition and a reset portion when the device is in a tripped condition. The circuit interrupting portion breaks a conductive path between a line terminal and load terminal upon the occurrence of a predetermined condition thereby placing the device in the tripped condition and the reset portion reestablishes the conductive path between the line terminal and the load terminal thereby placing the device in the reset condition.Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 2005Date of Patent: August 19, 2008Assignee: Leviton Manufacturing Co., Inc.Inventor: Frantz Germain

Patent number: 7375871Abstract: A light control system having a full range of dimming for smart-glass by providing an interface between an off-the-shelf dimmer and a electrochromic glass device is disclosed herein. The light control system or electrochromic glass control device acts as an interface that converts an asymmetric alternating current (AC) power signal from the dimmer device into a symmetric, amplitude controlled AC output signal for controlling the tint of the smart-glass device. The electrochromic glass control device includes a powerline interface circuit that receives the asymmetric AC power signal from the dimmer. A controller connects to the powerline interface circuit to generate a control signal responsive to the asymmetric AC power signal. Connecting between the dimmer and the controller, an output stage generates the symmetrical AC output signal responsive to the control signal to control the electrochromic glass device.Type: GrantFiled: October 27, 2005Date of Patent: May 20, 2008Assignee: Leviton Manufacturing Co., Inc.Inventors: John Libretto, Michael Ostrovsky, Eugene Frid, Edward Uftring

Patent number: 7355497Abstract: This invention relates to a circuit interrupting device having a trip button for disconnecting a load from a source of electrical power and a reset button for resetting the device after it has tripped. When the device is operating in its reset state, a source of electrical power is connected to a load through a set of contacts located within the device. The contacts are held closed by the spring loaded reset button which holds captive and urges a latch plate to move up to close normally open contacts. In the preferred mechanical trip mechanism, depressing the trip button causes the latch plate to move forward and be released from the reset button. The latch plate, upon being released from the reset button moves down to allow the contacts, which are biased to be normally open, to assume their normally open position. At this time, pressing the reset button initiates an electrical cycle which causes the normally open contacts to close only if the device is operating properly and there is no fault on the line.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 2006Date of Patent: April 8, 2008Assignee: Leviton Manufacturing Co., Inc.Inventors: Frantz Germain, Stephen Stewart

Patent number: 7355117Abstract: A tamper-resistant electrical receptacle disclosed herein includes a cover assembly having at least one pair of apertures, a cover, and at least one slider that rests in the cover behind one pair of the apertures. The slider is held in a first position where it covers both apertures such that an object is blocked from entrance in either aperture and, thereby, blocked from accessing either receptacle terminal formed in the base assembly connected to the cover assembly. This first position is maintained until prongs are substantially inserted simultaneously into the apertures causing the slider to move into a second position where the prongs are enabled to pass through the apertures, engaging the receptacle terminals. After the prongs are removed from the receptacle terminals, the slider automatically retracts to the first position. When only one aperture is probed by an object, however, the slider remains confined in the first position.Type: GrantFiled: September 7, 2006Date of Patent: April 8, 2008Assignee: Leviton Manufacturing Co., Inc.Inventors: Cosmo Castaldo, Azer Ilkhanov

Patent number: 7339129Abstract: A plastic actuator for a toggle switch has a metal rod embedded therein, with the metal surface partially exposed. This surface of the metal rod functions as a bearing surface for a positioning spring as the actuator is flipped back and forth to turn the switch on and off. The use of the metal rod to provide a bearing surface in the toggle actuator substantially reduces wear on the actuator, and thus permits the actuator to be made out of a thermoplastic material rather than a thermoset material, thereby effecting a cost savings.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 2006Date of Patent: March 4, 2008Assignee: Leviton Manufacturing Co., Inc.Inventor: George Timothy Shatley
