Abstract: A media cassette comprises a housing defining a closeable pick window; an urging plate biased towards the pick window for urging a stack of media items towards the pick window; a detent located distal from the pick window for limiting movement of the urging plate when the pick window is closed; and a detent moving mechanism operable to move the detent when the pick window is opened. The media cassette allows the urging plate to exert less force on the stack of media items by expanding the space available for media items located within the cassette by activating the detent moving mechanism.
Abstract: A device, methods and system for outputting selective rows of pixels from an image capture device. A command implemented by the image capture device of the form “Skip N, Out M” causes the image capture device to cycle through the all rows of pixels in the image capture device, outputting “M” sequential rows and skipping “N” sequential rows until all rows in the image capture device have been processed.
Abstract: A system and method for tracking currency in a self-checkout station in one embodiment comprises a currency acceptor for collecting cash payment elements and determining the denominations of the collected cash payment elements, a cash dispenser for dispensing cash payment elements, a denomination counter for counting units of collected and dispensed cash payment elements, a processor, a memory, programmed instructions stored in the memory which, when executed by the processor, close an open accounting log based upon a received accounting period signal, and data storage for storing the number of denomination units counted for collected cash payment elements.
Abstract: A method of operating a self-service terminal and a network of self-service terminals. The method comprises: receiving notification that a maintenance operation has been performed on the terminal; performing a compliance check on the terminal; and issuing a code in the event that the compliance check is successful. The code can be used to audit and/or validate that the maintenance operation was performed successfully and that the terminal was left in working order.

Abstract: A printing machine for printing security features onto a web. The machine has a first printing cylinder defining a first circumference and carrying a first number (m) of rows of first image elements, each adjacent row of first image elements having a first circumferential separation. The machine also has a second printing cylinder defining a second circumference, different to the first circumference, and carrying a second number (n) of rows of second image elements, different to the first number (m) of rows, where each adjacent row of second image elements has the same first circumferential separation as adjacent rows of first image elements. The printing cylinders are operable to print the first and second image elements in registration on a web so that composite security features are created on the web from the first and second image elements.
Abstract: Systems and techniques for product identification using terahertz radiation detection. An area of interest is illuminated with radiation in the terahertz frequency range and terahertz radiation reflected from objects within the area of interest is detected and a detector signal based on the detected radiation is processed to generate identifying information for the objects. The generated identifying information may be compared against stored identifying information for products and the result of the comparison is used to select a product or group of products for which the comparison produces a match. Processing of the detector signal may generate a spectral signature characteristic of reflective and absorptive properties of an object under illumination, and the spectral signature may be compared with stored spectral signature information for products.
Abstract: A scale assembly mounting apparatus for an optical scanner which suspends a scale assembly above a mirror housing of the scanner. The apparatus includes a top surface which surrounds an aperture of a mirror housing of the scanner on at least three sides, and a bottom surface including a load cell assembly mounting structure for suspending a load cell assembly between the bottom surface and the mirror housing.
Abstract: A label, method of printing and method of manufacture that includes a label comprising a transparent protective layer, a thermosensitive image-forming adhesive layer and a release liner. The transparent protective layer is of a thickness and weight, which permits sufficient heat to be conducted through it to the thermosensitive image-forming adhesive layer to cause thermally active dye in the thermosensitive image-forming adhesive layer to change color in the area where the heat is conducted.
Abstract: A barcode reading station which mounts a barcode reader for reading a barcode on a barcode carrier, such as a document or electronic device which displays the barcode. The barcode reading station includes a holster for a barcode reader, the barcode reader producing a scan volume, a barcode reading table for identifying a target location for barcode reading, and a mirror for deflecting the scan volume of the barcode reader towards the barcode reading table.
