  • Patent number: 4570117
Abstract: A modular field strength measuring and indicating instrument that includes as one component a sensing module with a sensitive D'Arsonval meter movement and a receptacle for interchangeable plug-in type sensing modules for measuring an electrical condition, such as electrical power. The other component is a field strength sensing module that plugs into the receptacle and which includes a self-contained DC voltage source, a sensing antenna, a high-impedance, variable gain, linear DC amplifier operatively connected to the voltage source for amplifying the field strength voltage signal sensed by the antenna, and circuitry for transmitting the amplifier output voltage signal to the D'Arsonval meter movement for indicating the field strength detected by the instrument. The field strength sensing module may be used in the meter module interchangeable with other modules, such as modules for measuring RF power in RF transmission lines.

  • Patent number: 4569649
Abstract: A machine which makes building blocks from earth efficiently and rapidly has a pair of block forming molds at each end of the machine for simultaneously forming blocks at each end by means of a pair of rams. The hydraulic cylinder which actuates the two rams is located away from the axis between the two rams. The use of two molds eliminates wasted motion of the machine as a block is formed at one end of the machine as the ram is being retracted from the other end.

  • Patent number: 4569461
Abstract: A device is provided to store a vertical stack of newspapers in a free standing cabinet and to automatically dispense individual copies actuated by the opening of a cabinet door. The dispensing mechanism is adapted to readily retro-fit prior art honor system type newspaper vending machines and is capable of dispensing daily and Sunday newspapers irrespective of varying thicknesses or numbers of inserts. A novel high velocity paper dispenser mechanism is employed to overcome the inertia of the single copy to be dispensed and to quickly shear the frictional bond between the said single copy and the subjacent newspaper.

  • Patent number: 4570148
Abstract: A bimetal snap disc thermostat is disclosed which is structured for automated assembly. Such thermostat includes a body with contact supports molded therein in a manner providing sufficient strength so that terminals can be riveted onto the contact supports after assembly. The body and contact support subassembly is structured so that it is symmetrical on opposite sides of a central axis. A disc cup is provided with axial and radial surfaces which accurately locate the disc during and after assembly. Also disclosed is a method of gaging and calibrating the thermostat automatically. Calibration of the spring force of the movable contact is accomplished by sensing the force in a given position and subsequently deforming the spring until a predetermined force exists in such predetermined position. Gaging is accomplished by deforming a projection from the movable contact arm until a predetermined uniform spacing is established between such projection and a gaging surface.

  • Patent number: 4567417
Abstract: The invention relates to an actuator and to its application to the position servocontrol for a master-slave remote manipulator. The actuator comprises a box or case in which are housed an electric motor, a slightly or non-reversible reducing gear and a torsion bar connecting the led part of the gear to an actuating plate outside the box. Potentiometers make it possible to define the position of the led part with respect to the box and the force applied to the torsion bar. Thus, it is possible to artificially provide the gear with good reversibility characteristics.Application to any movement control in robotics and particularly to the production of miniaturized master arms, master-slave remote manipulators with force return and without either a cable or belt, and to the control of heavy arms.

  • Patent number: 4566595
Abstract: A device for classifying handled objects. This device comprises a mechanical sorting system and an electronic control system. The former comprises two storage devices, each organized in the form of a queue or line, i.e., the objects can be removed in the order in which they are entered, and a third storage device organized in the form of a stack or pile, i.e., the objects can be removed in the opposite order to that in which they entered. The mechanical system also comprises conveyors for transferring the objects between the different storage devices. The electronic system comprises a control computer, equipped with two memory zones organized in the form of a queue, and a third memory zone organized in the form of a stack, in which are stored the codes allocated to each object. The computer controls the transfer of codes from one memory zone to another, in order to sort in one of them the codes in a given order, and controls the corresponding displacement of the objects carrying the codes.

  • Patent number: 4565123
Abstract: A tension control system for a baling machine has a pressure switch connected to the high pressure fluid supply. The switch is operable to actuate when the pressure of the fluid supply exceeds a predetermined level, such as when the baling head ram cylinder is approaching a stalled condition. A solenoid controlled valve is located between the high pressure fluid supply and the fluid cylinder which operates the tension mechanism on the throat portion of the baling machine. The solenoid is operatively connected to the pressure switch to close when the pressure of the fluid supply exceeds to predetermined level. When the valve closes, fluid pressure in the tension cylinder is relieved so that the cylinder operating the baling head does not become stalled. When the baling head is again capable of operation, the pressure switch deactuates, returning the valve to an open condition so that tension is restored to the throat portion of the baling machine.
