  • Patent number: 4555049
Abstract: In a refrigerator having a cabinet which defines an opening, an ice dispensing apparatus within the opening dispenses ice pieces through a delivery chute. An inner ice door is mounted on hinges within the delivery chute and movable to a first position which blocks the delivery chute from the passage of ice pieces, or to a second position which allows the passage of ice pieces through the delivery chute. An ice guard is provided which protects the hinges from ice pieces which pass from the ice dispensing apparatus through the delivery chute, as well as from becoming frozen in the first closed position. The ice guard comprises a sweeper member which is biased against the inner ice door and sweeps against it as the inner ice door is moved from the first to the second position, thus removing any ice pieces or water from the inner ice door.

  • Patent number: 4554852
Abstract: A machine for dividing articles into wedge-shaped portions which includes a conveyor for transporting the articles along a processing path and a series of cutting stations spaced along the path. Individual article carriers, each supported on the conveyor for rotation about an axis perpendicular to the processing path, carry the articles through successive cutting stations. The carriers and associated articles are rotationally indexed between cutting stations by cam surfaces disposed along the processing path to cause the articles to be cut at the cutting stations on angularly displaced lines. The cutting stations include a rotary blade that is power-driven at a speed that approximates the speed of the conveyor to eliminate article handling problems as well as fouling of the apparatus and articles.

  • Patent number: 4552314
Abstract: This invention relates to a method of fixing an end of a coiled wire on a take up spool and an apparatus therefor. When the wire is wound on the take up spool, an initiating end of the wire is caught by a catching pawl such as a snagger on a catching plate (snagger plate) which integrally rotates together with the take up spool and thereafter it is wound on the take up spool. Before or immediately before wire winding on the take up spool ends, a wire introduction cover advances to cover the filled take up spool. At that time, a terminating end of the wire on the filled take up spool is so led as to run along the inner surface of the wire introduction cover and come close to the catching plate. Wire drawing lever means on a wire drawing plate draws up the terminating end of the coiled wire to catch it on the catching pawl so that the initiating and terminating ends of the coiled wire intersect on the catching plate.

  • Patent number: 4552353
Abstract: A paper feeding apparatus is provided with a paper feeding roller and a paper separating plate mounted on an end of a spring-biased swingable lever. Paper sheets are separated, one sheet from the other, at a gap between the paper feeding roller and the paper separating plate. A guiding means is provided in opposition to a swingable part of the lever, and a stopper is interposed in a space between the swingable part of the lever and the guiding means. The stopper is movably biased into mechanical engagement with the swingable part of the lever, thereby to prevent double-feed of paper sheets by maintaining a predetermined extent of the gap between the paper feeding roller and the paper separating plate.

  • Patent number: 4550770
Abstract: A self-contained window-mounted, heat/cool room air conditioner for automatically maintaining a predetermined indoor room temperature over a wide range of outdoor ambient temperatures. The air conditioner includes a reverse cycle refrigeration system having an inside heat exchange coil and an outside heat exchange coil, the coils being series-connected with an associated refrigerant compressor via a reversing valve wherein the system in addition to functioning in a conventional room air cooling mode can also function as a heat pump to heat room air over a limited range of outdoor ambient temperatures. Low and high wattage resistance heating elements supplement or replace the heating action of the reverse cycle refrigeration system under certain operating conditions. Four thermistor temperature sensors are used to provide precise control of the air conditioner for maximum efficiency.

  • Patent number: 4549425
Abstract: A misalignment detector for forging machine transfers is disclosed. Such transfers provide grippers which move from a first position in which workpieces are not present to a second position when a workpiece is properly gripped. If a misaligned workpiece is present, the gripper moves to a third position beyond the second position. Each of the embodiments provides a beam-type spring mounted for deflection as the associated gripper or grippers move between the three positions. In some embodiments, the spring is bent as a function of the relative position of two opposed grippers and in other embodiments a spring is associated with a single gripper and is bent as a function of the gripper position. In some embodiments, strain gauges are mounted on the springs to produce a modulated signal to indicate the gripper position and operate the machine's emergency stop if necessary. In one embodiment, the spring is associated with a pneumatic system and allows a bleed orifice to open when misalignment is present.

  • Patent number: 4548882
Abstract: This invention relates to a process of producing a plate for a lead storage battery. A plate grid of lead material such as lead or lead alloy is formed by casting and a frame of acid-resisting plastic material is formed by molding which is to surround the plate grid. A plate substrate is formed by placing the plate grid into the frame. The plate substrate is filled with paste of lead oxide on both sides of the plate substrate, and then the paste filled in the plate substrate is partly dried. Thereafter, the plate substrate filled with the paste is covered with an acid-resisting fiber mat which is thermally adhered to the frame of the plate substrate.
