  • Patent number: 7335843
Abstract: Embodiments of a peripheral backlighting system for keyboards are shown and described, which include one or more light-emitting panels exterior to the keyswitches of the keyboard. The panels are preferably electroluminescent material or light-emitting chemical cells and surround at least two sides, and preferably all sides, of the actuation portion of a keyswitch or the space in which the actuation portion slides up and down during use. Alternatively, the panel(s) may extend substantially continuously between and underneath a plurality of keyswitches. The panels extend closely adjacent to the actuation portion or actuation path, or under the keyswitch, to be as far under the key cap as possible without extending into the keyswitch. Preferably, the keyswitch is translucent or partially translucent, and the housing plate over the light-radiant panels, if any, is at least partially translucent or transparent.

  • Patent number: 6676188
Abstract: A garment that attaches to the body of a personal recreational vehicle, preferably covers substantially all of the wearer's body, and traps heat generated and lost by the vehicle engine. The garment is preferably large enough to allow the wearer to sit or stand and turn as necessary without restraint. It may also equipped with a zipper in front that allows the wearer to vent heated air or to exit the garment and vehicle without detaching the garment from the vehicle. In the preferred embodiment, the garment is removably attached to a storage container attached to the vehicle behind the driver/wearer. The bottom hem of the garment is attached to the body of the vehicle in order to better trap heat and to keep the garment in place. The apparatus for attaching the garment to the vehicle preferably is strong enough to remain attached despite high winds and/or high vehicle velocity.

  • Patent number: 6617588
Abstract: The invention is a process and reactors designs for simultaneous ultraviolet light/ultrasound(UV/US) treatment of halogenated organic compounds contaminants in water. The reactors are preferably circular cylindrical reaction vessels that accept a central ultrasonic horn. UV light is provided by lamps placed generally parallel to the reactor walls. Or, UV light may be centrally provided in an immersion well near the ultrasonic horn. This way, simultaneous UV/US energy may be effectively provided to the reactors for the remediation of toxic compounds in the water in the reactors. Also, this way, compact and portable reactors may be constructed to permit mobile applications of the UV/US processes.

  • Patent number: 6424309
Abstract: A broadband compact antenna comprises an electric dipole or monopole coupled or connected in parallel to a slot antenna. The slot antenna is composed of a flat, square or rectangular conducting sheet with a slot having a variety of possible shapes including a bow-tie or rectangle. The slot is then fed at the center by a coaxial transmission line with its outer conductor bonded to the sheet. To obtain broadband characteristics and compactness, a dipole or monopole, formed using either wire, flat strips or shapes formed in sheets of metal, is located in close proximity to the center of the slot.
