  • Patent number: 4747682
Abstract: Patients suffering severe retinal damage and focusing impairment are tested in an area having actual or simulated outdoor illumination by viewing a graphic having colored familiar objects and letters of graduated incremental sizes thereon with colored backgrounds either darker or lighter than the objects and letters involved to ascertain the patient's estimated optimal correction for distance vision. Based on said estimate, the patient is provided with a combination of a soft contact lens between the estimated correction and a correction obtained by traditional testing methods using black letters against a white background in a darkened room, and a plurality of spectacle type lenses in incremental diopter corrections of two or three diopters for training purposes.

  • Patent number: 4738192
Abstract: The grill frame includes a pair of elongated shaft members which are resiliently connected at their first ends so that upon the insertion of the first end into the abdominal cavity of the fowl, the shaft members may be urged against the opposite sides of the abdominal cavity with sufficient force to enlarge the abdominal cavity laterally and to disperse the meat of the fowl to substantially the equal plane. The method of insertion is such that the shaft members are held in substantially close proximity as the first end is inserted through the cavity and the shaft members are allowed to expand outwardly as the first end of the apparatus extrudes out of the rear of the cavity with the apparatus in position within the fowl.

  • Patent number: 4734794
Abstract: Apparatus for recording and reproducing audio signals on flat rectangular recording media comprising a magnetic coating or the like on at least one side. A magnetic head on a swing arm moves across the magnetic media in mutually parallel lines guided by a heart-shaped cam, the recording medium being stationary during recording and reproducing so its visible surface can be examined without difficulty. The heart-shaped cam is of asymmetric configuration, and the magnetic head is pivotably mounted on one end of the swing arm which carries between its ends a cam follower peg which continually engages the heart-shaped cam while under spring loading. The other end of said swing arm is pivotably mounted on a sliding carriage plate which is moved stepwise perpendicularly to the chord of the curved path of movement of the magnetic head for each line. The stepwise perpendicular movement of the sliding carriage plate is produced by a mechanism which is controlled by the reversal of direction of the magnetic head.

  • Patent number: 4708290
Abstract: A water sprinkler comprises a body (15) housing a rotor (1) which is rotatably driven about a central vertical axis by water which enters the body by an inlet (12). Water leaves the body (15) by a hollow distribution shaft (5) having at its upper end a water discharge nozzle (14). The shaft (5) extends at an angle to the vertical and is rotationally driven about the central vertical axis by an epicyclic drive mechanism comprising a pinion rotatable with the rotor (1), a ring rear (11) formed on the internal wall of the body (15) and a planet gear (7). The planet gear meshes both with the pinion and the ring gear and is attached to one end of the hollow distribution shaft.

  • Patent number: 4691088
Abstract: A microwave oven has a magnetron which launches microwave power into a cavity of the oven through an aperture in the base of the cavity. A metal tray, which may be a shelf or a rotatable turntable is supported above the aperture in a predetermined disposition so that the oven when devoid of food presents a poor power match with the magnetron in terms of effectiveness of power transfer from the magnetron into the oven cavity. As a result, the dielectric load of food items placed in the oven determines the power coupled to the loaded oven from the magnetron and the power transfer automatically increases in proportion to the dielectric food load in the oven. A forced hot air system blows hot air through the cavity, so that food items on the tray are cooked by the simultaneous application of microwave power and the hot air.

  • Patent number: 4643360
Abstract: A spreader comprises a hopper having two delivery parts. At the bottom of each delivery part there is a delivery member having an outwardly and upwardly inclined wall in which are which has outlet ports (29, 30) in it. The bottom of the delivery member (25) is closed by a distribution member (4). The inclined position of the wall of the delivery member (25) in which the outlet ports (29, 30) are provided enables high rates of flow of material from the hopper (2) to be achieved. A cover for the outlet ports is urged by clamping springs against the delivery member wall. Such wall and the cover conform to a conical surface and are movable relative to each other around the common vertical axis of their mating conical surfaces.

  • Patent number: 4618016
Abstract: A tractor has a hydraulically driven PTO shaft disposed at one side and generally centrally so that it can be connected to an input shaft of an implement extending laterally from the tractor's rear lifting device. The tractor's engine is between its wheels and its drive shaft is transverse to the tractor's longitudinal centerline. The width of the engine is less than the width from outboard side to outboard side of the tractor's front wheels. The fuel tank is offset on one side of the tractor opposite the aforesaid PTO. The front wheels of the tractor are situated within the tracks of the rear wheels so that the tracks do not overlap and are about equal distances apart. All wheels are driven by individual hydraulic motors. Hydraulic motors also drive the aforesaid PTO shaft and two further PTO shafts which extend to the tractor's rear, one centered with respect to the tractor's three-point lifting device and the other to one side thereof.

  • Patent number: 4584842
Abstract: Molecular seive zeolite to obtain useful energy from low-grade heat sources such as solar energy. Molecular sieve zeolite and a low pressure polar gaseous fluid adapted to be adsorbed by zeolite in a closed container are in a circuit which includes gas condensing and expansion apparatus. In one embodiment, cooled gas is received in another zeolite filled container, upon cooling of the first container, is returned via condensing and expansion apparatus providing more cooling. In another embodiment, sintered zeolite forms a divider across a container; heating one side creates a temperature gradient across the divider which functions as a pump for adsorbed gas and a pressure as well as temperature differential develops across the divider whereupon the heated relatively pressurized gas, after giving up energy in a circuit which may include condensing and expansion apparatus, is returned to the container and again passed through the divider.

  • Patent number: 4549610
Abstract: An agricultural tractor having six wheels which are each hydraulically drivable by individual hydraulic motors through hydraulic fluid supplied by respective hydraulic pumps. With each pump driving only one wheel, skidding of a wheel does not affect drive to other wheels. The pumps are all driven by a single engine. Selectively operable automatic control means control the speed of the wheels when, for example, the tractor is turning. Control means are also responsive to the drag resistance of an implement hitched to the tractor's lifting members and cause such lifting members to raise when the implement's resistance exceeds a predetermined limit. In addition, speed of the vehicle is automatically reduced by reason of such resistance and, further, the position of the implement relative to the ground may be adjusted to offset at the location of the implement upward and downward movement of tandem wheel pairs at the rear of the tractor.
