Patent number: 5791581Abstract: A power recoilable rule has an elongated bumper for cushioning the recoil impact of the blade hook when the blade is refracted into the casing. The casing has an opening at a juncture between the bottom wall and front wall, and a bumper is mounted in the casing within the opening for linear sliding movement relative to the casing in a path along the bottom wall. The opening in the front wall and the outer end of the bumper cooperate to provide an exit aperture for the elongated blade which extends outwardly through the exit aperture and has a hook on its outer end. A shock absorbing compression spring acts between the inner end of the bumper and the housing, and it is compressed by the inward movement of the bumper to absorb energy imparted by the hook when it impacts the bumper.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 1996Date of Patent: August 11, 1998Assignee: The Stanley WorksInventors: Herbert H. Patent number: 5781963Abstract: Rotatable hand tools such as screwdrivers utilize a coextruded tool handle which provides a comfortably grip. The handle has an extruded body formed of a rigid synthetic resin with a uniform cross section over most of the length of its grip portion. Extending axially over the length of the grip portion is a multiplicity of coextruded peripherally spaced stripes of a synthetic resin which is substantially softer than that of the body, and these stripes are firmly bonded to the body.Type: GrantFiled: October 6, 1995Date of Patent: July 21, 1998Assignee: The Stanley WorksInventors: Joseph P. Patent number: 5778721Abstract: Machine tools are known, for forming workpieces, such as sheet metal, with tooling made of two tool halves arranged on opposite sides of the workpiece to be formed. One half of the tooling has at least one pressure element that can move against the workpiece and act on it and the other half of the tooling has at least one counter-pressure element that works with the pressure element to form the workpiece, and it is also movable against the workpiece. The movement of the pressure element against the workpiece activates the drive of the counter-pressure element in the direction opposite to the movement of the pressure element against the workpiece.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 1996Date of Patent: July 14, 1998Assignee: Trumpf GmbH & Co.Inventors: Hans Klingel, Werner Erlenmaier

Patent number: 5779171Abstract: An anti-reversing mechanism for a reel comprises an overriding clutch within the drive gear of the reel, a sleeve rotatably mounted within the overriding clutch and a retainer for restricting axial movement of the sleeve to retain the sleeve within the clutch. A drive shaft is rotatably mounted in the reel and a locking member is mounted upon the periphery of and movable axially length of the drive shaft. The locking member and drive shaft include cooperating opposed flat surfaces for limiting rotation of the locking member relative to the drive shaft. The locking member and the sleeve have interengaging teeth to constrain the rotation of the locking member relative to the sleeve. In addition, there is a lever for moving the locking member axially along the drive shaft between a first position of disengagement with the sleeve and a second position of engagement with the sleeve.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 1996Date of Patent: July 14, 1998Assignee: Seitz CorporationInventors: Arthur J. Milano, Jr., Jeffrey E. Seitz, Zoltan Sostarecz

Patent number: 5762387Abstract: A universal door latch is mounted on a door having a series of holes therethrough for a latch spindle and fasteners. The latch has first and second subassemblies, a spindle, and means to rotate the spindle. The first subassembly includes a first housing which is secured to one side of the door and has a recess in its inner surface in which is seated a track plate with a central aperture and elongated slots diametrically spaced from the aperture. A pair of mounting studs are slidably seated in the slots, and a ribbon spring couples the mounting studs to cause the studs remain equidistant during their sliding movement. The second subassembly includes a second housing which is secured to the other side of the door and has a recess in its inner surface in which is seated a mounting plate with a central aperture and elongated slots diametrically spaced from the aperture. A pair of fasteners is slidably seated in the slots and engaged with the studs of the first subassembly.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 1996Date of Patent: June 9, 1998Assignee: The Stanley WorksInventors: Jeffrey R. Patent number: 5759086Abstract: A machine tool for cutting workpieces includes a cutting head with at least two cutting units each providing cutting beams directed at the workpiece so as to impinge thereon closely adjacent each other to cooperate in the cutting action. The machine tool includes a worktable to support the workpiece, and the workpiece and cutting head are relatively movable to provide a cutting line in the workpiece. At least one of the cutting units is movable relative to the other so that the angular relationship of the cutting beams may be varied, and the supply of the cutting medium is separately controlled for the cutting units. In one embodiment the cutting beams are high speed water jets which may contain abrasive and the cutting characteristics of the jets may be varied.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 1996Date of Patent: June 2, 1998Assignee: Trumpf GmbH & Co.Inventor: Hans Klingel

Patent number: 5757241Abstract: An electromagnetic radiation reflection amplifier capable of amplifying cw or pulsed signals has a pair of cw oscillators operated under injection locking conditions. Diversion of oscillator power to a separate signal path during the off time of the input pulse is achieved through purely passive means; no active control devices are utilized. The device can be implemented for amplification of microwave, millimeter wave or optical signals. The amplifier comprises a 180-degree hybrid coupler, a matched pair of cw oscillator modules, a waveguide discontinuity, a waveguide termination, and an optional signal input element. For a magic-tee hybrid coupler, the cw oscillator modules are mounted on the ports of the symmetrically positioned waveguide arms and the waveguide discontinuity is located within either the sum arm or difference waveguide arm intermediate its ends.Type: GrantFiled: December 31, 1996Date of Patent: May 26, 1998Assignee: Millitech CorporationInventor: Mario D.
