Abstract: Reactor vessels with pressure and heat transfer features for producing hydrogen-based fuels and structural elements, and associated systems and methods. A representative reactor system in accordance with a particular embodiment includes a first reaction zone and a heat path positioned to direct heat into the first reaction zone, a reactant source coupled to the first reaction zone, and a first actuator coupled to cyclically pressurize the first reaction zone. The system can further include a second reaction zone in fluid communication with the first, a valve coupled between the first and second reaction zones to control a flow rate therebetween, and a second actuator coupled in fluid communication with the second reaction zone to cyclically pressurize the second reaction zone.

Abstract: A technique for routing data for deduplication in a storage server cluster includes computing, for each node in the cluster, a value collectively representative of the data stored on the node, such as a “geometric center” of the node. New or modified data is routed to the node which has stored data identical or most similar to the new or modified data, as determined based on those values. Each node stores a plurality of chunks of data, where each chunk includes multiple deduplication segments. A content hash is computed for each deduplication segment in each node, and a similarity hash is computed for each chunk from the content hashes of all segments in the chunk. A geometric center of a node is computed from the similarity hashes of the chunks stored in the node.

Abstract: Chemical processes and reactors for efficiently producing hydrogen fuels and structural materials and associated systems and methods. A representative process includes dissociating a hydrogen donor into dissociation products by adding energy to the hydrogen donor, wherein the energy includes waste heat generated by a process other than dissociating the hydrogen donor. The process can further include providing, from the dissociation products, a structural building block and/or a hydrogen-based fuel, with the structural building block based on carbon, nitrogen, boron, silicon, sulfur, and/or a transition metal.

Abstract: Microelectronic devices having intermediate contacts, and associated methods of packaging microelectronic devices with intermediate contacts, are disclosed herein. A packaged microelectronic device configured in accordance with one embodiment of the invention includes a microelectronic die attached to an interconnecting substrate. The microelectronic die includes an integrated circuit electrically coupled to a plurality of terminals. Each of the terminals is electrically coupled to a corresponding first contact on the die with an individual wire-bond. Each of the first contacts on the die is electrically coupled to a corresponding second contact on the interconnecting substrate by a conductive coupler such as a solder ball.

Abstract: The method and system of the present invention provides an improved technique for replacing, implementing and managing computer-related assets. A technician accesses the World Wide Web through a user's computer. The information resident on the computer, including information regarding the computer and the user's preferences, are downloaded to a remote storage medium through the World Wide Web. Once downloaded, all information may be removed from the user's computer. Subsequently, the technician accesses another computer such as, for example, a new computer that has been assigned to the same user. The technician accesses the World Wide Web through the new computer and downloads the information previously stored on the remote storage medium. This information can then be used to install the user's prior applications, settings and preferences on the new computer.

Abstract: Induction for thermochemical processes, and associated systems and methods are disclosed. A method in accordance with a particular embodiment includes placing first and second substrates in a reactor, with each substrate having a surface facing toward the other. Method can further include directing a precursor gas into the reactor and activating an induction coil proximate to the facing surfaces of the substrates to dissociate the precursor gas. A constituent of the precursor gas is deposited on both the first and second surfaces, and heat radiated from each surface and/or a constituent deposited on the surface is received at the other surface and/or the constituent deposited on the other surface.

Abstract: A cell navigation system is described that allows easy navigation to cells that are likely to be important to a spreadsheet user. The cell navigation system tracks each cell that a user visits and determines the importance of the cell to the user. The system adds important cells to a navigation list. The cell navigation system presents the list to the user as a tool for navigating to the important cells through a user interface. Thus, the cell navigation system provides the user with a quick and easy way of navigating through a potentially large spreadsheet or workbook of spreadsheets to get to those cells that are most important to the user.

Abstract: Methods are provided for embedding auxiliary information in a host content signal which reduce the memory, bandwidth and computational complexity of the embedding and transmission systems. In one embodiment, a first reduced-scale signal is produced which corresponds to the host content embedded with a first logical value and producing a second reduced-scale signal corresponding to the host content embedded with a second logical value. A first set of segments from the first reduced-scale signal may be combined with a second set of segments from the second reduced-scale signal in a pre-defined manner to produce a composite embedded host content. Thus the storage and transmission requirements of the watermarking system are reduced to having to deal with only the original content plus two reduced-scale signals.

Abstract: The present invention relates to methods for making oxidation resistant medical devices that comprise polymeric materials, for example, ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE). The invention also provides methods of making antioxidant-doped medical implants, for example, doping of medical devices containing cross-linked UHMWPE with vitamin E by diffusion, post-doping annealing, and materials used therein.

Abstract: A system, method, apparatus, and computer program code for identifying billing discrepancies includes receiving billing data from a billing entity, the billing data including an assessed fee and call details associated with each of a plurality of calls made by a customer, identifying, based at least in part on the call details received from the billing data, rate information associated with the customer, generating an expected fee for each of the plurality of calls, and comparing, for each of the plurality of calls, the expected fee with the assessed fee to identify discrepancies.

Abstract: Devices, systems and methods for dynamically stabilizing the spine are provided. The devices include an expandable spacer or member having an unexpanded configuration and an expanded configuration, wherein the expandable member in an expanded configuration has a size, volume and/or shape configured for positioning between the spinous processes of adjacent vertebrae in order to distract the vertebrae relative to each other. The systems include one or more expandable members and a mechanical actuation means for expanding the expandable member. The methods involve the implantation of one or more devices or expandable spacers.

Abstract: Aircraft power systems, aircraft galley systems, and methods and systems for managing power distribution to aircraft galley systems are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, an aircraft system can include an aircraft power source and at least first and second galley appliances operably coupled to the aircraft power source. The aircraft system can further include a controller operably coupled to the first and second galley appliances. The controller can be configured to receive a first power request from the first galley appliance and a second power request from the second galley appliance. The controller can be further configured to sort the first and second power requests and distribute power to the first and second galley appliances from the aircraft power source based on the sorting of the first and second power requests.

Abstract: A switching regulator with frequency limitation comprises a switch, a current sensing circuit, a voltage feedback circuit, a control circuit and a frequency limitation circuit. The current sensing circuit senses the current flowing through the switch and generating a current sensing signal representative of it. The voltage feedback circuit senses the output signal of the switching regulator and generates a feedback signal accordingly. The control circuit compares the current sensing signal with the feedback signal and turns off the switch based on the comparison result. The frequency limitation circuit is electrically coupled to the control circuit to limit the switching frequency of the switch.

Abstract: Stacked microelectronic dies employing die-to-die interconnects and associated systems and methods are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, a stacked system of microelectronic dies includes a first microelectronic die, a second microelectronic die attached to the first die, and a die-to-die interconnect electrically coupling the first die with the second die. The first die includes a back-side surface, a surface depression in the back-side surface, and a first metal contact located within the surface depression. The second die includes a front-side surface and a second metal contact located at the front-side surface and aligned with the first metal contact of the first die. The die-to-die interconnect electrically couples the first metal contact of the first die with the second metal contact of the second die and includes a flowable metal layer that at least partially fills the surface depression of the first die.

Abstract: A switching power supply has an inductor that includes a coil. A chopper circuit chops the primary current drawn through the coil, for the inductor to output an induced current. A multifunction junction of the power supply has a multifunction voltage that is a function of a primary voltage that drives the coil. A first circuit suspends the chopping in response to a first sensed voltage crossing a first threshold, the first sensed voltage being a function of the multifunction voltage. A second circuit suspends the chopping in response to a second sensed voltage crossing a second threshold, the second threshold being a function of the multifunction voltage.

Abstract: Systems and methods of social caching for device resource sharing and management are disclosed. In one embodiment, a system includes a local proxy which wirelessly accesses the physical storage of other device via a wireless network to cache the response or content for the mobile device, in response to detecting commonalities between the mobile device and the other device. The commonalities can include, for example, common interests in users of the mobile device and the other device.

Abstract: A system for managing and filtering incoming messages to a mobile device is configured to receive incoming messages using multiple formats, such as e-mail, Short Messaging System (SMS) messages, Multimedia Message System (MMS) messages, or other electronic messaging formats. One or more message filters are used to consolidate and display high importance messages by the device in a single location. The message filters may be configured to select incoming messages based on factors such as the identity of the sender and the destination account. After receiving a new message, the system compares characteristics of the incoming message to the key characteristics defined by one or more of the filters. If an incoming message matches one of the filters, the system adds the matching message to a list of high importance messages. The system provides a separate user interface to display the high importance messages.
