Abstract: A mobile station in a TDMA network can perform automatic frequency using burst in all or any slot in a control channel. This is achieved by identifying the training sequence of an arbitrary set of or all received bursts.
Abstract: Interference surfaces are constructed on inner transition surfaces between wings of a fastener having a spiral recess. A portion of the transition surface is tapered to provide the interference. A standard driver for a spiral recess will engage the interference surface to create a “stick fit” engagement. The punch is formed using a wire EDM operation to construct tapered surfaces within the die cavity of a hob. The hob is machined down to obtain the desired depth, which is measured up from a gage spot indicative of the sticking point.
Abstract: A user equipment of a packet-switched radio system implements a user equipment location service, and has a network part with a core network and a radio network having a data transmission link to the core network and a radio link from the radio network to the user equipment. The radio network has a serving mobile location center for locating the user equipment and a second-layer logical link control relay set on the packet protocol stack. Data to be transmitted is placed in a message of a third-layer radio resource protocol, and the radio resource protocol message is transmitted to the radio network using a logical link control protocol set on the second layer of the packet protocol stack.
Abstract: The invention relates to an electronic system for implementing an optimized way to provide information from a first electronic device to a second portable electronic device, and to a method of implementing a virtual noticeboard. The context in the virtual noticeboard of the first electronic device is arranged to be transmitted to the second device located within a geographically limited coverage area of first radio means of the first device, and the second device comprises selecting means for selecting the reception of the virtual noticeboard of the first device. The contents of the noticeboard may only transmitted to those who enter with their devices the permanent coverage area of the noticeboard, such as an airport. The device implementing the noticeboard and the radio means transmitting its contents may be integrated into one device. The virtual noticeboard may be a global one.

Abstract: A method of allocating data transmission resources in a packet-switched telecommunications system which comprises a terminal and a fixed network to which an operational entity is defined for defining resources for a radio bearer. Radio bearer resources are defined for the terminal on the basis of an application used on the radio bearer, and the used compression method of header fields in data packets is selected before the radio bearer resources are defined, the resources being defined in such a manner that they also comprise the capacity required by the selected compression method of header fields in data packets. The compression methods of header fields in data packets, which are supported by the terminal, are transmitted to the operational entity in the fixed network for defining the compression method to be used. Capacity is defined for the radio bearer in two directions, if the selected compression method of header fields in data packets requires a bi-directional connection.

Abstract: Coding an audio signal includes selecting a reference sequence that has the smallest error relative to a sequence of the audio signal, calculating pitch predictor coefficients for the selected reference sequence using one of a set of pitch predictor orders, producing a predicted sequence from the selected reference sequence using the calculated pitch predictor coefficients, and calculating a coding error by comparing the predicted sequence to the sequence to be coded. Coding also includes calculating pitch predictor coefficients for the selected reference sequence, producing a predicted sequence from the selected reference sequence, and calculating a coding error by comparing the predicted sequence to the sequence to be coded, for each of the remaining orders of the set of pitch predictor orders, and using an order from the set of pitch predictor orders that results in the smallest coding error to select a coding method for the sequence to be coded.
Abstract: A novel method and means for indicating whether the source of water accumulation on a concrete floor of a basement or other subterranean room is moisture condensation, even some time after the moisture content or humidity of the atmosphere within the room has been reduced. The novel means comprises a temperature-conductive, rust-resistant metallic plate for condensing and collecting water from a humid basement atmosphere when the temperature of the plate is lower than the dewpoint of the humid atmosphere. The metallic plate has a thickness of at lest about 0.2 inch and has a flat bottom surface for temperature conductive contact with a flat concrete basement floor. The plate also has an upper surface having with a centralized recessed area for the accumulation of water condensed from the humid atmosphere in the basement when the temperature of the metallic plate, as conducted from the basement floor, is lower than the dewpoint of the humid atmosphere surrounding the metallic plate.
Abstract: A method and system are disclosed for controlling radio communications between a terminal (MS, TE) and a communications system (CN, GRAN). A communications connection between the system and the terminal is established by an active radio network controller (RNC) and an active base station (BS). In one embodiment, data communications within the communications connection is directed to the active radio controller by a second radio network controller.
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and arrangement whereby the location of a mobile station (MS, 101) operated in a packet-switched (GPRS) connection can be defined. For the duration of the location measurements, the GPRS mobile station is switched to a circuit-switched connection in the cellular network (11). The invention also comprises the transmission of the accurate map data related to the mobile station as WAP pages to the mobile station for display.

Abstract: Providing a dial-up connection in a packet radio system comprising at least one mobile termination part, a terminal equipment part functionally connected thereto, and a packet radio network. A first packet data protocol context is activated between the packet radio network and the mobile termination part for reception and transmission of packet-switched data. A second packet data protocol context is activated between the packet radio network and the mobile termination part for a dial-up connection. The first context is deactivated in response to the second context being activated. The second context is deactivated in response to the dial-up connection being released. A third packet data protocol context, substantially conforming to the first context, is activated in response to the second context being deactivated.
Abstract: A method for choosing channel coding and/or interleaving scheme is applied in a communication connection over a radio interface between a terminal and a base station of a cellular packet radio system. A certain decision-making device allocates channel coding and/or interleaving schemes to communication connections. A request message is communicated to the decision-making device, indicating a certain set of Quality of Service parameters associated with a certain first communication connection. The set of Quality of Service parameters is mapped to a certain first channel coding and/or interleaving scheme as a part of the channel coding and/or interleaving scheme allocation made by the decision-making device. The first channel coding and/or interleaving scheme is communicated to the base station and the terminal for them to apply said first channel coding and/or interleaving scheme in the first communication connection.
Abstract: A latch apparatus includes a live bolt actuated between an extended position and a retracted position, first and second dead bolts, and a slide. The first dead bolt is positioned vertically above the live bolt and the second dead bolt is positioned vertically below the live bolt. The first and second dead bolts have substantially the same size and shape and are spaced equidistant from the live bolt. The slide couples the first and second dead bolts to each other, wherein vertical movement of the slide simultaneously actuates the first and second dead bolts between extended and retracted positions.

Abstract: A user of a camera equipped communication terminal is aided by the use of the invention when, e.g., dialing a phone number, sending a message to a recipient associated with the phone number, or simply store the phone number in a contact database in the terminal, The camera is pointed in the direction of a surface on which a sequence of symbols presumed to be a telephone number is written, The field of view is aimed using the guiding pattern and, e.g. by pressing a button or selecting an action from a menu, the symbol sequence is recorded in an image, The image, i.e. a sub-image containing the sequence of symbols, is then subjected to optical character recognition (OCR) processing that interprets the sequence of symbols as a telephone number to be used in an application that performs the dialing, message sending or storage into the contact database.
