  • Patent number: 4049547
Abstract: The settling of finely-divided solids that are in suspension in an aqueous medium due to the presence of a colloidal argillaceous mineral is enhanced by adding to the suspension a small but effective amount of at least one chelating agent. Effective chelating agents include malic acid, tartaric acid, nitrilotriacetic acid, and N,N,N.sup.1,N.sup.1 -ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid. This invention is especially useful for treating aqueous suspensions of ultrafine clay and other materials resulting from the hydraulic concentration of an ore material, such as phosphate slimes.

  • Patent number: 4038097
Abstract: A modified clay paper coating composition comprising a montmorillonite clay having at least partially hydrolyzed aluminum chloride bonded thereto is made by treating montmorillonite clay with a non-aqueous solution of anhydrous aluminum chloride following by hydrolyzing with hot water. A paper substrate coated with this composition exhibits improved image light fastness when employed in a pressure-sensitive duplication system.

  • Patent number: 3953597
Abstract: Novel 6-amino-9-(substituted benzyl)purines are prepared by allowing an appropriate substituted benzyl halide, e.g., a substituted benzyl chloride, to react with adenine under the appropriate conditions. Oxidation of the resulting purine derivatives yields the corresponding N.sup.1 -oxides. These compounds, i.e., both the purine derivatives and the N.sup.1 -oxides thereof, have anti-coccidial activity and are useful for controlling cecal and/or intestinal coccidiosis when administered in minor quantities to animals, in particular to poultry, usually in admixture with animal sustenance.
