  • Patent number: 6823539
Abstract: An inner and an outer body are clamped toward opposite faces of a tub wall over a tub overflow opening. Excess water flows from the tub through an overflow outlet water passage extending through the inner and outer bodies. A water inlet passage has an inlet in the outer body and a non-circular outlet in the inner body. Flow from the tub into the water supply is prevented by a check valve in the water inlet passage. An inlet water conditioning assembly is supported at the outlet of the water inlet passage to provide a smooth, controlled, laminar cascading flow into the tub. The inlet water conditioning assembly includes a flow straightener with parallel blades parallel to the flow direction dividing the total flow into segments that are reunited in a header region at the outlet of the flow straightener. A screen assembly downstream from the header region includes a number of wire mesh screen laminas each having a wire direction angularly offset from the wire direction of adjacent screens.

  • Patent number: 6813998
Abstract: A printing plate is supported on a table slideably mounted on a frame for forward and back horizontal movement. A table lever has a handle moving in a vertical plane to slide the table for inking an image on the plate with an inverted ink cup or for moving the inked image under a printing pad. A printing pad shaft is supported by a mast for vertical sliding movement of the printing pad down onto the inked image or onto a work piece supported by a work holder bracket adjustably attached to the table. A printing pad lever has a handle moving in a second vertical plane to move the printing pad shaft. A printing cycle includes a minimum number of sequential movements of the two handles in parallel vertical planes located side by side.

  • Patent number: 6707256
Abstract: A self contained multiple dimming channel package includes a housing with a main power circuit board supported on its bottom wall and a control circuit board extending laterally and vertically to baffle air flow through the housing. A cross flow cooling fan forces air through an opening in the control board and across power switching modules and toroidal chokes mounted to the main board. Each power switching module includes a heat sink with fins parallel to the air flow, and the chokes are mounted in rows with their central openings aligned with the air flow. The power switching modules include circuits attached to the heat sinks with terminals releasably plugged into mating connectors on the main board. Circuit breaker switches are snapped into place in the housing. The front corners of the housing are provided with integral mounting bracket and handle members.

  • Patent number: 6666065
Abstract: A probe drive system of a precision liquid handler sequentially inserts probe tips of a multiple probe array into a locator well at a known position on a locator bed. The position of each probe tip is determined by driving the probe tip into contact with points on the side wall of the locator well and sensing the contracts. The positions of the probe tips are mapped and checked for skew of the probe array. The probe tip positions are overlaid to determine probe tip scatter. If a probe tip is excessively misaligned, it is inserted into the locator well and driven against the side wall to bend the probe and reduce the misalignment of the probe tip. The center of the probe tip scatter is determined and is used by the probe drive system as a global correction factor. Probe tips with known positions are inserted into spaced apart locator wells to detect skew of the locator bed.

  • Patent number: 6628089
Abstract: Power for one or more luminaire accessories is extracted from a series of lamp operating pulses provided by a phase angle dimmer. A DC power supply is connected to the output of the dimmer to develop and store DC accessory power. A lamp controller is connected to the output of the dimmer to transfer power from the lamp operating pulses to the lamp. The lamp controller has a variable pulse transfer characteristic for providing lamp power without lamp performance degradation caused by accessory power variations. The variable pulse transfer characteristic can be implemented by a switching device that interrupts or blocks selected portions of the lamp operating pulses. The pulse transfer characteristic maintains constant apparent lamp brilliance independent of variations in accessory power requirements. In an off or in a preheat condition, power transfer to the lamp is reduced to prevent emission of a visible light beam.

  • Patent number: 6586732
Abstract: A high voltage ion propulsion field is applied across the length of an ion mobility spectrometer that is divided by a barrier wall into a desolvation region and a drift tube. A plume of ions and solvent is electrosprayed into the desolvation region, and ions are propelled from the desolvation region through the drift tube to an ion target. Drift gas flows through the drift tube in the opposite direction to oppose the ion flow. A portal in the barrier wall permits ions to move from the desolvation region into the drift tube, and restricts flow of drift gas from the drift tube into the desolvation region. The resulting drift gas velocity increase effects desolvation without requiring elevated temperature or decreased pressure. An ion gate is located near the portal and an aperture grid is located near the ion target. The drift gas flow rate is varied to change the ionization spectra to alter selectivity.

  • Patent number: 6560790
Abstract: A high flow valve assembly and a low flow valve assembly are in parallel flow relation between an inlet and an outlet of a flush controller. The valve assemblies are opened by solenoid operated pilot valves under the control of a microprocessor based flush control system. A turbine directly measures flow through the low flow valve assembly by providing pulses to the microprocessor, and the control system counts pulses and computes flow through the high flow valve assembly to perform a flushing operation including an initial siphon trap flushing high flow portion and a subsequent trap reseal low flow portion. Corrections are made to the pulse count to correct for partial valve open conditions and other variables. An override switch provides a signal to the control system for a flush operation A user detection system includes a pair of emitters and a pair of detectors defining an array of intersecting detection points in a skewed plane in which the control system can locate the position of a user.

  • Patent number: 6534015
Abstract: A number of racks make up a stack. An upper rack includes releasable catches received into orifices in the next lower rack to releasably attach the two racks to one another. A loader and receptacle cooperate with one another to release the bottommost rack from the stack and deposit it into the receptacle where pipette cones held therein are accessible for use. The bottom rack is placed into the loader where it is held by catches engaging ribs of the rack. The stack of racks with the loader attached is placed onto the receptacle. The stack of racks is pressed downwardly. The downward movement releases the bottom rack from the loader. At the same time, studs projecting up from the bottom of the receptacle engage catches of the second-from-the-bottom rack and free the bottom rack. The bottom rack now rests freely in the receptacle.
