  • Patent number: 4261944
Abstract: A method is disclosed for the manufacture of a biaxially stretched polyolefin film, particularly a polypropylene film, having improved properties, in which the material is first partially prestretched in a longitudinal direction and, thereafter, simultaneously biaxially (longitudinally and laterally) stretched, the apparatus comprising stretching rollers for effecting partial longitudinal stretching of the film, the rollers being arranged upstream of an assembly for effecting simultaneous biaxial stretching of the film. The speed of the stretching rollers is infinitely variable so as to influence the total degree of film-stretching only by changing the speed of the rollers. The rollers used for longitudinal prestretching are arranged at the inlet section of the biaxial stretching assembly.

  • Patent number: 4179052
Abstract: A container cap having, for example, a cylindrical base that is threadedly securable to a container, for example, a plastic bottle, is disclosed. The base has a tubular portion that terminates in an open end to which is affixed a plug member by means of a number of laterally extending ribs. Such ribs support the plug member axially beyond the open end of the tubular portion and leave at least partially open the open end of the tubular portion. A sleeve is secured in surrounding relation to the tubular portion, the sleeve being displaceable axially along the tubular portion between two extreme positions. The sleeve terminates in an open end corresponding cross-sectionally in size and configuration to the plug member, the sleeve having an axial extent such that when it is in one of the extreme positions the open end thereof surrounds the plug member in substantially fluid-sealing relation.

  • Patent number: 4045277
Abstract: A building drum for building first-stage, steel-reinforced, radial monoply, pneumatic tire carcasses, is disclosed. The drum comprises a circumferential array of drum-forming segments which are supported for radial displacement to and from contracted and expanded dispositions, and apparatus for displacing the segments radially between the contracted and expanded dispositions. Each of the segments has the same axial extent and terminates at each end in a respective flange projecting radially inwardly. Each of the flanges has a respective recess exposed radially outwardly, corresponding ones of the recesses which are at the same segment end defining co-operatively with one another at each such segment end a radially outwardly exposed annular bead-seat. The segments, when in a fully contracted disposition, present a substantially cylindrical outer carcass-ply support-surface having a diameter which is less than the inner diameter of any annular metallic bead-core to be thereby operated upon.

  • Patent number: 4027094
Abstract: A non-metallic housing for electrical and/or telephone connectors having wires extending therefrom. The housing includes a cap having a pair of separable externally threaded portions defining an aperture therebetween. Each portion carries a part of the thread of the threaded portion and together form a circumferentially continuous external thread when in engagement with one another. When the separable portions are spaced from each other, the connector wires may be passed therebetween and positioned in the aperture of the cap. Threaded engagement of the externally threaded portion of the cap with the threads of a corresponding internally threaded opening maintains the separable portions in contact with one another so as to cover the opening while permitting the connector wires to extend through the aperture of the cap.

Abstract: Apparatus for inserting a plurality of molding inserts into respective mold cavities of a multi-cavity mold, simultaneously, is disclosed. The apparatus comprises an insert-holding arrangement for removably holding a plurality of generally annular inserts in spaced apart relation corresponding to the relative spacing of a plurality of cavities of a multi-cavity mold, the insert-holding arrangement including resilient-like projection members for frictionally securing respective ones of the annular inserts from the interior of the latter. The apparatus furthermore includes an insert-stripping arrangement operatively associated with the projection members and the inserts for stripping the latter simultaneously from their associated projection members to effect the simultaneous insertion of the inserts into respective mold cavities of the multi-cavity mold.

  • Patent number: 3998151
Abstract: A rotary marking tool in which a marking wheel having raised characters for marking a workpiece is rotatably connected to one face of a block, is disclosed. Cooperating with the marking wheel is a pawl pivotally connected likewise to the block adjacent to the marking wheel. A tension spring is anchored at its opposite ends to a portion of the pawl and to a stop-pin affixed to the marking wheel, the spring acting to urge a beak of the pawl against the periphery of the marking wheel, whereby the stop-pin on the marking wheel is urged into contact with an abutment on the block to, thereby, define an at-rest position of the marking wheel. Upon rotation of the marking wheel in a direction away from its at-rest position, the beak of the pawl is adapted to penetrate a notch formed in the periphery of the marking wheel remote from the stop-pin. Once the beak penetrates the notch, the wheel is prevented from continuing its rotation away from its at-rest position.

  • Patent number: 3996733
Abstract: A metallic reinforcing cord structure suitable for reinforcing elastomeric articles characterized by a high compression modulus which increases resistence to buckling and fatigue failure and by improved adherence between the core and the elastomeric article in which it is embedded is disclosed. The cord comprises a core consisting of two equal diameter brass plated steel wires and an outer layer of six equal diameter brass plated steel wires disposed about the core wires, the diameter of the outer layer wires being between about 1.23 and about 1.43 times the diameter of the core wires. The two core wires are twisted about one another and the outer wires are twisted about the core. Both the core and the outer wires are laid in the same direction. This abstract is not to be taken either as a complete exposition or as a limitation of the present invention, however, the full nature and the extent of the invention being discernible only by reference to and from the entire disclosure.

Abstract: Apparatus for removing partially exposed, upstanding, plug-like, cured scrap from sprues of a mold is disclosed. The scrap is integral with and separable from cured elastomeric product formed in respective mold cavities of the mold at corresponding sprue constriction regions of minimum cross-section. The apparatus comprises a wiping assembly engageable with the exposed portions of the scrap, and a system for moving the mold and wiping assembly relative to one another to effect engagement of the scrap with the wiping assembly and thereby tear the scrap free from each cured elastomeric product at the sprue constriction regions of minimum cross-section.
