Abstract: Gelatinous compositions of matter which are useful as polymerization catalyst components and are highly stable in terms of OH-decay rate, as well as similarly stable solid compositions of matter formed from such gelatinous compositions, are described. The gelatinous and solid compositions are formed from hydroxyaluminoxane. Also disclosed is a process comprising converting a hydroxyaluminoxane into a gelatinous composition of matter, whereby the rate of OH-decay for the composition is reduced as compared to that of the hydroxyaluminoxane. Olefin polymerization processes and catalysts formed from these novel compositions of matter also are disclosed.
Abstract: The sizing agents are mixtures of alkenyl succinic anhydrides in which the alkenyl groups have in the range of about 6 to about 40 carbon atoms, and in which at least 97 wt % of the alkenyl groups are bifurcated on the alpha carbon atom into two branches neither of which has less than two carbon atoms. Other characteristics of the mixture are that (1) 20-50% of the bifurcated alkenyl groups have only one methyl or methylene substituent and no other side chain, and the remainder of such bifurcated groups have two straight chain branches (no side chain) emanating from the alpha carbon atom, (2) at least 3 alkenyl succinic anhydrides that differ in the number of alkenyl carbon atoms are each present in at least 5 wt % in the mixture, (3) no more than about 50 wt % of the alkenyl succinic anhydrides is any given alkenyl succinic anhydride or mixture of isomers having the same number of carbon atoms in their alkenyl groups, (4) the average number of carbon atoms in the alkenyl groups is ca.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method of reducing the acid level in pomegranates by applying thereto vanillin or a carboxylic acid salt having from 3 to 5 carbon atoms. Pomegranates are customarily harvested when the acidity level is about 181/2 percent and application of the compounds of the present invention give the grower a better means of controlling acidity level so that the fruit can be harvested in an orderly manner.
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method of increasing the sugar (primarily glucose and fructose) content in grapes by applying to grape vines (primarily to the leaves) a compound which is vanillin or a carboxylic acid salt having from 3 to 5 carbon atoms. Grapes are customarily harvested when the sugar level is about 16% "Brix" and application of the compounds of the present invention gives the grower a better means of controlling sugar level so that the fruit can be harvested in an orderly manner.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a polyurethane foam having good wet strength. The foam is prepared by reacting a urethane prepolymer with large amounts of water containing a poly(amino)urea and optionally other ingredients, e.g. surfactants. The poly(amino)urea is characterized as being the water soluble reaction product of a polyamine with a urethane prepolymer, said reaction product being further reacted with a crosslinking agent, e.g. epichlorohydrin.
Abstract: A test apparatus for conducting diagnostic tests on body fluids, said apparatus having (1) a reaction vessel containing immunochemical test reagents supported as on beads and (2) a washing means cooperating with the reaction vessel, said washing means supplying washing fluid for the reaction vessel. The washing means also comprises a vacuum conduit for aspirating the washing fluid out of the reaction vessel. The apparatus is applicable to hepatitis testing.
