  • Patent number: 6390554
Abstract: A kit for adding a reclining seat to a wheelchair, comprising a stationary seat frame for mounting to a base frame of the wheelchair, a seat for mounting to the stationary seat frame, the seat having a seat portion and a back portion pivotally mounted to said seat portion, and an actuator mounted on the seat for causing the back portion of said seat to change angle relative to said stationary seat frame, a sliding connector for slidably mounting said seat portion to said stationary seat frame, and means for sliding said seat on said stationary seat frame along said sliding connector without changing height as the actuator causes the angle of the back portion to change, wherein said kit, when mounted on a wheelchair, compensates for a change in an occupant's center of gravity by sliding said seat portion on said stationary seat frame as said back portion changes angle.

  • Patent number: 6388655
Abstract: A touch control input method and a device is disclosed for controlling cursor movement on a computer screen or for controlling object movement of an apparatus such as a machine or a robot. A user-manipulable member having an exterior contact surface of known configuration is provided to sense the motion of a user through the physical contact with the contact surface. User contact on the contact surface is transmitted to a force sensing means disposed between the user-manipulable member and a support. The movement of the user contact on the contact surface are derived from the signals output from the force sensing means. The contact force may be used as a means to determine the object's motion and response sensitivity simultaneously, while providing kinesthetic and tactile feedback to the user.

  • Patent number: 6292977
Abstract: A vacuum fitting for connection to a remote source of vacuum, the vacuum fitting comprising a main body mountable to a fixed structure. The main body includes an inlet opening and an outlet opening; an openable closure mounted to the main body and being moveable between an open position and position covering the inlet opening; a latch member selectively positionable to keep the closure in said covering position when positioned between the main body and the closure and to permit said closure to move to an open position when not positioned between said main body and the closure; and a biaser to urge the closure to an open position. A switch is also provided to initiate the remote source of vacuum when the closure is moved to the open position by the biaser.

  • Patent number: 6209493
Abstract: An electrolysis cell and internal combustion engine kit including an electrolysis cell is disclosed. The cell includes a sealed plastic body having an inlet and an outlet. The plastic body includes a first terminal located at the top of the body, a second terminal located adjacent to the first terminal and insulated conductors associated with each terminal extending through the body and towards the bottom end thereof. Each terminal ends in a respective anode and cathode which are operatively connected to the terminals. The anode and cathode are spaced apart from one another within the body. When an electrolysis solution is placed in the body, and a current provided across the electrodes, water is caused to decompose into hydrogen and oxygen. These combustible gases are then passed into the internal combustion engine to increase the efficiency and power thereof. In one embodiment a reservoir is provided to ensure that the level is maintained in the cell.

  • Patent number: 6050426
Abstract: A storage system for articles. The storage system includes a track for mounting on the wall. The track is formed with a mounting portion which is sized and shaped to permit a fastener to pass through the track and into a wall. A L-shaped groove is formed having a lower seating face and upper retaining slot. Below the groove is a mid section which may include a material saving recess. A lower alignment means is also provided. A hanger bracket is provided with an upper L-shaped portion sized and shaped to be inserted into said groove and shaped to fit into said upper retaining slot while resting on said seating face to retain said bracket on said track. In one embodiment an outwardly extending hook element is provided, and a pair of fasteners is used to secure the bracket to the track.
