Patent number: 6467344Abstract: A method for calculating underground storage tank (UST) buoyancy and buoyancy safety factors defines boundaries of side areas such that the boundaries do not overlap for multiple tank installations. Installation plan information may be input over a medium such as the Internet. The computer calculates the buoyancy and buoyancy safety factor and returns this information to the requesting party over the same medium. This technique allows installers to verify the adequacy of installation plans quickly. Records of the information provided by the installer may be kept so the recipient of the information (typically the UST manufacturer) can reconcile differences between the actual installation and the installation plan in the event of UST flotation. The information may be provided on a paper form supplied by the installer.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 2000Date of Patent: October 22, 2002Assignee: Xerxes CorporationInventors: Kiet T. Patent number: 6451531Abstract: Probes labeled with 1,2-dioxetane precursors can be employed in a variety of assays. The probes may be nucleic acid, peptide nucleic acid, proteins including enzyme, antibody or antigen, steroid, carbohydrate, drug or non-drug hapten. The probe is provided with a 1,2-dioxetane precursor bound thereto, generally either covalently, or a strong ligand bond. The dioxetane precursor moiety is converted to a bound 1,2-dioxetane by exposure to singlet oxygen. These dioxetane (labels) either spontaneously decompose, or are induced to decompose by an appropriate trigger to release light. The trigger may be a change in pH temperature, or an agent which removes a protective group. Assay formats in which these 1,2-dioxetane labeled probes and referents may be used to include hybridization assays, immuno assays, gel-based assays and Capillary Zone Electrophoresis.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 1999Date of Patent: September 17, 2002

Patent number: 6372288Abstract: A ceramic welding process for the formation of a coherent refractory repair mass on a surface of an electrocast refractory material includes providing an electrocast refractory material having a surface to be repaired; providing a first powder mixture comprised of combustible particles, refractory particles, and at least one constituent which enhances production of a vitreous phase in the coherent refractory repair mass; and projecting the first powder mixture in a gas stream containing oxygen against the surface to be repaired so that the combustible particles react with the projected oxygen against the surface in a highly exothermic manner and release sufficient heat of combustion to form a first coherent refractory repair mass.Type: GrantFiled: August 3, 1998Date of Patent: April 16, 2002Assignee: GlaverbelInventors: Jean-Pierre Meynckens, Léon-Philippe Mottet

Patent number: 6369757Abstract: A smart antenna, i.e., blind adaptive antenna array, is a method and system to suppress multiple access interference and to improve performance, for example in a code division multiple access (CDMA) wireless communications system, including third generation (3 g) cdma2000 and wide band (W)-CDMA. A convergence parameter is employed in a smart antenna processor. In general, a constant convergence parameter value is empirically determined and used after studying the convergence speed and the steady state mean square error (MSE) or other performance data, such as bit error rate. As the convergence parameter value increases, the convergence speed also increases but the MSE increases unfortunately, and vice versa. The traditional smart antenna with a constant convergence parameter would yield poor performance when the channel environment changes, which is true particularly when a mobile user moves around.Type: GrantFiled: July 5, 2000Date of Patent: April 9, 2002Assignee: Neo Reach, Inc.Inventors: Yoo S. Patent number: 6310014Abstract: Personal and household care compositions that deliver an audible crackling or popping sound during use. The sound is created by the release of pressurized carbon dioxide that has been encapsulated in a water-soluble structure. The carbon dioxide gas is released as the encapsulating material dissolves or when it is ruptured by mechanical action. The popping or crackling sound helps create consumer interest by signaling the presence and continued action of the product.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 1999Date of Patent: October 30, 2001Assignee: Phyzz Inc.Inventor: Allen H. Patent number: 6308819Abstract: The invention relates to an advancing tailpiece of a continuous belt conveyor system used in the mining industry. The advancing tailpiece is supported by telescopic booms extending from a support structure rising from the base of a tow car. The telescoping booms are pivotally connected to the support structure and the advancing tailpiece. The advancing tailpiece further includes a mechanical arm pivotally connected to the advancing tailpiece and having a telescopic boom. Carrying idler assemblies are loaded on the mechanical arm which is used to position the carrying idler assembly for attachment to an intermediate conveyor section of the continuous belt conveyor.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 1997Date of Patent: October 30, 2001Assignee: Long-Airdox CompanyInventor: Shirley Donnelly Riffe
