  • Patent number: 6698211
Abstract: A natural gas fuel storage and supply system, particularly suited for use in vehicles powered by liquid natural gas (LNG), includes an insulated tank containing a supply of LNG with a headspace there above. A pump and a vaporizer are in circuit between the tank and the engine of the vehicle. When activated, the pump pressurizes LNG from the tank and directs it to the vaporizer where gaseous LNG is produced. The pressurized gaseous LNG is routed to the engine where it is consumed as fuel. An economizer circuit communicates with the headspace of the tank and includes a regulator, a control valve and a flow control device. The control valve opens when the vehicle engine is in operation and the regulator opens when the pressure in the tank exceeds a predetermined level so that LNG vapor from the tank headspace flows to the vehicle engine air inlet where it is consumed.

  • Patent number: 6692213
Abstract: Fastener delivery apparatus for automatically selecting and delivering fasteners such as rivets to a setting tool. The fasteners are pre-loaded in a package and dispense via at least one fastener delivery tube that interconnects the setting tool to a fastener feeder device. The fastener feeder device releases selected fasteners from the package into the delivery tube. The fasteners are transportable individually or in groups in the tube from the feeder device to the tool. A transfer station attached to the tool or the delivery tube transfers a fastener from the delivery apparatus into the tool, the transfer station being moveable between a first position in which an exit of the transfer station is adjacent to the tool so that a delivered fastener may be inserted by the transfer station into the tool and a second position in which it is clear of the tool so as to permit the tool or a portion thereof to move towards a workpiece to insert a loaded fastener. The delivery tube has wear resistant elements.

  • Patent number: 6661418
Abstract: A system for generating an animated image of at least the head of a character which is speaking, with the face of the character having visible articulation or expression matching the words being spoken, is described. An input stream of marked up text comprising text to be spoken by the animated character and instructions representing behavioral features are combined in a modified text stream which includes randomization instructions to create random behavioural features. The modified text stream is processed to produce an audio stream representing the text being spoken and a sequence of phonemes corresponding to portions of the audio signal. The phoneme stream is mapped by phoneme to viseme mapping means to produce a stream of morph targets. The morph targets are, in turn, combined with further random movement instructions and these are then processed in an animation module to generate an animated image of at least the character's head.

  • Patent number: 6631615
Abstract: A system for transferring and conditioning a cryogenic liquid includes a replenishing tank containing a supply of cryogenic liquid, a bulk tank and a pump positioned there between. The pump causes a stream of the cryogenic liquid to flow from the replenishing tank to the bulk storage tank. A heat exchanger and parallel by-pass line are positioned between the pump and bulk storage tank. A flow control valve diverts a portion of the stream to the heat exchanger so that it is warmed and rejoined with the remaining cryogenic liquid flowing through the flow control valve. The warmed stream then flows to the bulk storage tank. The flow control valve is adjusted based upon pressures within the bulk storage tank via a pressure line in communication with the head space of the bulk storage tank and a pneumatic controller or a pressure sensor in the bulk tank head space and a programmable logic controller.

  • Patent number: 6629663
Abstract: An improved system for detecting and controlling vibration of a wound roll in a winding machine includes a programmable controller to which the line speed of a web, diameter of the wound roll and vibration of the wound roll feedback is provided. The programmable controller computes the wound roll rotational frequency from the line speed and diameter feedback and uses this information to filter the vibration feedback so that the components of the vibration due solely to the rotation of the wound roll are isolated. The isolated vibration components are provided to a level detector which decelerates the winding machine when a predetermined vibration level is reached. In one embodiment, the rotational frequency is used to calculate coefficients for a band pass filter which filters the vibration feedback.

  • Patent number: 6631351
Abstract: Talking toys perform simulated conversations with one another. The toys each include a forest of decision graphs. The forest of decision graphs is the same for each toy. Each of the decision graphs corresponds to a conversation and includes a number of nodes, each of which corresponds to a portion of the conversation. The nodes also include one or more contexts which connect the nodes to children nodes. As a result, the selection of the context directs the progression of conversation. The toys select a decision graph/conversation that includes all or most of the toys as participants. The conversation is then performed as the toys traverse the selected decision graph. The toys transfer messages back and forth via a wireless transmission and reception arrangement as they traverse the decision graph. The toys play the portions of the conversation through a speaker.

  • Patent number: 6622983
Abstract: A valve for controlling a flow of pressurized abrasive particles to a machine includes a valve body that defines a particle chamber having an inlet port and an exit orifice. A tapered valve seat surrounds the exit orifice. A shaft having a nose piece is positioned within the particle chamber. The shaft is movable between a closed position, where the nose piece engages the valve seat so that particles cannot pass through the exit orifice, and an open position, where particles are free to flow out of the exit orifice. A flexible barrier surrounds the shaft and separates the particle chamber from the actuating mechanism to prevent abrasive particles from damaging the actuating mechanism. A clean chamber is positioned between the shaft actuating mechanism and the barrier and is pressurized to a pressure generally equal to that of the particle chamber to prevent damage to the barrier.

  • Patent number: 6622758
Abstract: A cryogenic system that off-loads cryogenic liquid from a delivery vehicle and pumps the cryogenic liquid to a storage tank includes an interlock that enables the pneumatic valves which control the flow of the cryogen. The interlock includes a pneumatic relay, a pneumatic line and a pressure sensing line. The pneumatic line transfers pressurized air to the pneumatic relay while the pressure sensing line pressurizes the pneumatic relay when hoses from a delivery truck are connected to the system. The pneumatic relay includes a housing that defines a chamber with a piston having an arcuate passage located therein. When a hose from the delivery truck is connected to the system, the pressure sensing line detects a change in pressure and pressurizes the pneumatic relay. The pressure displaces the piston of the pneumatic relay which aligns the arcuate passage of the relay with the pneumatic valve to allow pressurized air to travel to the pneumatic valve thereby opening the pneumatic valve.

  • Patent number: 6616539
Abstract: A sand and water table that includes a sand basin and a water basin. One side of the sand basin includes rotation channels and a locking groove. One side of the water basin includes pivot rods and a locking bead. The pivot rods of the water basin rotate within the rotation channels of the sand basin while the water basin is rotated from a closed position, covering the sand basin, to an open position. As the water basin is rotated to the open position, the locking bead engages the locking groove. The locked bead and groove connection supports the sand basin and the water basin in the open position. When the water basin is rotated to cover the sand basin, the locking bead disengages from the locking groove. The water basin may be removed from the sand basin or may be rotated to cover the sand basin.

  • Patent number: 6615861
Abstract: A dispensing system allows cryogenic liquid to be dispensed from either a primary bank manifold and associated cylinders or a secondary bank manifold and associated cylinders. Each manifold includes a gas header and a liquid header. The associated cylinders communicate with the gas header through flexible lines and excess flow check valves and the liquid header through flexible lines and spring-loaded check valves. An automatic control system selects between dispensing from the primary bank manifold or the secondary bank manifold. A pressure gauge detects the pressure of the cryogenic liquid from the dispensing manifold. The pressure gauge is in communication with a controller which opens and closes the appropriate valves to begin dispensing cryogenic liquid from the originally idle manifold if the detected pressure drops below a predetermined minimum. After the manifold is switched over, the controller checks the pressure in the non-selected manifold.
