  • Patent number: 6986058
Abstract: A method for providing data security in a device driver for accessing data. The device driver detects a file system request, completes the file system request, and receives return information from the file system request. The device driver further determines whether the file system request is for a tag file associated with a secured file; and if so, modifies the return information to reflect a file attribute of the secured file.

  • Patent number: 6974678
Abstract: A micro-fluidic device having a cavity containing a solid support (e.g., a plurality of particles) and a biomolecule immobilized on a surface of the solid support is provided. The micro-fluidic device can be used to monitor interactions between a biomolecule in a sample and the biomolecule immobilized on the solid support. For example, the micro-fluidic device can be used to monitor protein self-interactions wherein the protein in the sample is the same protein as that immobilized on the surface of the solid support. A method of making the micro-fluidic device is also described. The micro-fluidic device can be used for chromatographic applications where sample consumption is crucial.

The male coupling is secured to the filter conduit and has at least two radially projecting lugs. The female coupling is secured to the filter element and has at least two latching tabs for engaging the lugs. A spring is operatively mounted on the male coupling and interferes with the radially projecting lugs. The spring is disposed so as to engage at least one latching tab when the male and female couplings are moved toward each other. The spring urges the latching tabs to rotate in a first angular direction thereby causing the tab to latch to a lug of the male coupling.

  • Patent number: 6925441
Abstract: A system and method of targeted marketing to consumers, including businesses and associates, based upon the financial characteristics of the consumer, type offer being made and the channel of communication for delivery of the offer. The consumer is characterized based upon financial, behavioral, and socioeconomic factors. The offer is characterized based upon the consumer and the potential for the consumer accepting the offer. The channel of communication for delivery of the offer is also characterized and combined with the consumer and consumer-offer characteristics to arrive at a net present value of the offer to be made. If the net present value is sufficient the offer is processed and presented to the consumer. If the net present value is not sufficient, the offer is revised to present a better value to the consumer (or discarded if the required offer value can not be created) thereby enhancing the chances that the consumer will accept the offer in question.

  • Patent number: 6902936
Abstract: The method of the invention provides novel compounds, termed acid-labile isotope-coded extractants (ALICE), for quantitative mass spectrometric analysis of protein mixtures. The compounds contain a thiol-reactive group that is used to capture cysteine-containing peptides from all peptide mixtures, an acid-labile linker, and a non-biological polymer. One of the two acid-labile linkers is isotopically labeled and therefore enables the direct quantitation of peptides/proteins through mass spectrometric analysis. Because no functional proteins are required to capture peptides, a higher percentage of organic solvent can be used to solubilize the peptides, particularly hydrophobic peptides, through the binding, washing and eluting steps, thus permitting much better recovery of peptides. Moreover, since the peptides are covalently linked to the non-biological polymer (ALICE), more stringent washing is allowed in order to completely remove non-specifically bound species.
