  • Patent number: 6870092
Abstract: Disclosed are methods and apparatus for improving the resiliency and airflow through a honeycomb air vent filter while providing EMI shielding. In one embodiment, the honeycomb can be manufactured from a dielectric (e.g., plastic) substrate to provide improved resistance to deformation as compared to conventional aluminum honeycomb. The dielectric honeycomb substrate is metallized to provide EMI shielding capability. The metallized honeycomb substrate is cut slightly oversize to fit an opening in an electronic enclosure, which results in elastic deformation of resilient perimeter spring fingers that are used to hold the metallized dielectric honeycomb in place and provide electrical conductivity between the metallized dielectric substrate and the enclosure, thereby eliminating the use of a frame. In another embodiment, additional conductive layers can be added to the metallized dielectric honeycomb.

  • Patent number: 6868567
Abstract: A height adjustable bed includes a sliding hinge mechanism for attaching each of two articulated supports to wheeled bases. A linear actuator is connected between an actuating frame that is attached to each of the articulated supports and a horizontal linkage member that is attached to each of the articulated supports. Extension of the linear actuator raises the bed from a low position with assistance of a mechanical advantage provided by a fulcrum between the articulated support and the actuating frame that results from displacement of downward forces from the sliding hinge to the actuating frame.

  • Patent number: 6868970
Abstract: A stacking tray for electrical components, such as integrated circuits, particularly those of the ball grid array (BGA type) includes an upper side and a lower side. The upper side includes corner elements of a greater height, the inner intersections of which define the periphery of the storage pockets for the electrical components. These corner elements therefore capture and support the electrical component in directions parallel to the floor of the tray. The upper side further includes lateral elements of a lesser height which extend across the periphery of the storage pocket thereby creating a ledge for capturing and supporting the electrical component in the direction perpendicular to the floor. The lower side includes lateral elements of a greater height with inner edges which abut the periphery of the storage pockets thereby capturing and supporting the electrical components in directions parallel to the floor of the tray.

  • Patent number: 6866926
Abstract: A seal and method of manufacture is provided for sealing containers such as bottles, jars and the like. The seal (closure) can be formed with a lower sheetlike structure having a foam layer thereon. The lower structure can include foil and have a polymer layer, such as a PET layer thereunder A sealant layer can be provided under the bottom surface of the PET layer to bond the seal to a container opening. The polymer foam is advantageously polyethylene foam. Seals in accordance with preferred embodiments of the invention also include a top portion, which can be only partially bonded (directly or indirectly) to the bottom portion, so as to leave a tab portion extended therefrom. The top portion is advantageously bonded from periphery to periphery of the bottom portion and at or slightly offset from the diameter (middle) of the bottom portion. The top portion is advantageously formed with polymer material, such as an ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) layer, having a layer of PET bonded on the top thereof.

  • Patent number: 6854886
Abstract: A watertight closure for a reclosable package has first and second mutually interlocking profiles. Together, the profiles have two sets of interlocking members, one on either side of a central portion. There, at least one profile has a collapsible member in its central portion. The other profile may have a compressing member or a collapsible member opposite to the collapsible member, or it may have neither. In any event, when the first and second mutually interlocking profiles are joined to one another, the collapsible member encounters and compresses against the other profile to create a watertight seal.

  • Patent number: 6852547
Abstract: A method for measuring low levels of a substance in a sample includes the formation of a rotor from paramagnetic particles in a substantially uniform magnetic field. The rotor is rotated by rotating the substantially uniform magnetic field. A portion of the substance in a sample is bound to the paramagnetic particles, and a signal having a time-varying component is detected. The signal is then processed using a lock-in amplifier with a reference signal having a frequency twice that of the rotation of the magnetic field. This improves the signal-to-noise ratio of the time-varying component of the signal.

  • Patent number: 6840897
Abstract: An apparatus and method for engaging both profiles (18, 20) of an interlocked zipper (12) as the zipper or fastener strip is guided onto a supply of thermoplastic film (16) used to make a reclosable bag. A first interlocked profile (18) of the zipper is engaged by at least one roller (24, 26, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44) of the roller-type applicator (10). A disc (28) mechanically attached to an end section of at least one of the rollers engages a web (22) of the second interlocked profile (20) that extends beyond the width of a web of the first profile (18). By their attachment, the disc (28) and the roller move the profiles (18, 20) at the same speed so that the profiles remain aligned as they are moved through the zipper guide (14). The zipper (12) is then attached to a surface of the thermoplastic film (16) used to make the reclosable bag.
