  • Patent number: 5527103
Abstract: There is disclosed a cabinet which is formed of wood substrate panels in which a plurality of flat side and end panels have end slots which interlocked together to form a cabinet subassembly. Each end slot extends half the height of its respective panel and has a sufficient width to receive the next adjacent panel in the subassembly. The final assembly also includes top and bottom frames formed of interconnected stringers, one stringer each coextensive with the top edge of each of the flat panels, with each of the stringers having a groove coextensive its length which receives the top edge of its respective panel, thereby interlocking the assembly without use of mechanical fasteners or glue into a strong cabinet which resists racking.

  • Patent number: 5527287
Abstract: The invention is a pre-charged, disposable syringe capable of use by patients. The syringe has a housing with a cover having a central aperture which receives an actuator button. The actuator button extends to an internal piston which is mounted over a medication ampoule. The ampoule has a dependent hypodermic needle which is slidably received in the housing and moves between recessed and projected positions. In its recessed position, the ampoule is totally contained within the housing, and in its projected position, the hypodermic needle projects from the housing. The housing contains an actuator spring, which is compressed and biased to move the piston and the ampoule into its projected position. The medication is discharged from the ampoule by the mechanically coupled piston, or by the release of air from an internal air pressure chamber.

  • Patent number: 5511304
Abstract: There is disclosed an apparatus for the automated loading of probes in a probe head intended for use in automated testing of printed circuit boards. The invention automatically places probes in a probe head at on-grid and at off-grid test points, with probes for the latter test points being vertically inclined from base ends which are on-grid to test ends which are off-grid, corresponding to the off-grid test points of the printed circuit board. In the method, the probes are stored in a dispensing unit which is fully populated with on grid probes at a uniform grid spacing. A mask is custom drilled for the circuit under test at on-grid locations and is used to permit transfer of selected probes from the dispensing unit to a probe cassette. The probe cassette is then transferred to a probe loading unit which is loaded with a stack of the probe plates intended for the probe head.

  • Patent number: 5461947
Abstract: There is disclosed an improvement to an elongated tool holder such as the tool holders used to secure the immobilizing key used in aerospace fasteners to enable easy ejection of keys which is stuck or jammed in the holder. In these tools, a key is received in a receptacle of a tool holder that is slidably received within an outer, rotationally-driven member which distally supports a socket for engagement with the nut of the fastener of an aerospace fastener. The key is used to immobilize the bolt for non-interference fit applications of the fastener. A slot is formed along the shank of the tool holder intersecting the tool receptacle adjacent its interior end to expose the received end of the key and thereby permit insertion of an ejection member or tool to forcefully eject a jammed key from the tool receptacle.

  • Patent number: 5454515
Abstract: There is disclosed a spray head of improved design for airless spraying of liquids which utilizes a rotatable turret member to provide for reversing of the position of the orifice spray orifice tip for cleaning purposes. The rotatable turret member houses a conventional flat tip orifice without compromising the sealing, or the strength and useful life, of the spray assembly. To this end, a cylindrical turret member is formed of two sectored cylinders, one of which has a recess which receives a conventional flat tip. The two sectored cylinders are joined and secured in a cylindrical turret subassembly by interlocking keys and slots, preferably at opposite ends. The spray head also has a spray guard of generally conventional design with a key and arcuate slot connection to index the position of the rotatable turret member at cleaning and spraying positions.

  • Patent number: 5446996
Abstract: A portable security grill apparatus which may be installed in window openings of buildings includes two rectangular grill sections longitudinally telescopically fastened to one another. Opposite longitudinal ends of the two grill sections have beams disposed perpendicularly to the axis of longitudinal telescoping movability of the two grill sections, the beams having flat outer surfaces adapted to abut a window edge at one end of the grill apparatus, and a window frame edge, at the other end of the apparatus. At least one toggle clamp connected between telescopically joined members of the two grill sections is capable of exerting a large outward extension force when in a closed, clamped position, thereby exerting compressive forces on the window and window frame sufficient to prevent the grill apparatus from being removed from the window opening.

  • Patent number: 5432318
Abstract: A tool for segmenting a stack of bonded IC chips into short stacks includes a heat conducting base having at least one cavity in its upper face for receiving a portion of an IC chip stack. The length and width dimensions of the cavity are essentially the same as the corresponding dimensions of the stack. The depth of the cavity is selected to correspond to the desired thickness of the short stack to be formed from the stack. The base is heated to raise the temperature of the cavity walls to heat the stack above the softening point of the bonding material. A driver is movably mounted on the base for contact with a portion of a face of the stack extending above the opening of the cavity, and a threaded rod supported on the base urges the driver against the stack to effect separation of the extending portion of the stack from the segment portion which remains in the cavity. A track in the upper surface of the base is provided for travel of the driver.

  • Patent number: 5431564
Abstract: There is disclosed a calibration device for the inspection and precise setting of dental articulators which includes a stage member that is removably secured to the articulator lower frame and an scope gauge member that is removably secured to the upper frame of the articulator. A pair of position sensing indicators having sensing probes which are carried at the opposite sides of the stage member and are mechanically coupled by levers to contact points on the scope member which are located on the right and left axes of rotation of the articulator members. This permits the indicators to read, directly, relative vertical movements of the opposite sides of the articulator without being influenced by adjustments made at the opposite sides of the articulator. The inspection device includes ocular magnifiers including reticle and target indicium which cooperate to provide a vernier scale registering relative X-Y positions of the stage and gauge inspection members.

  • Patent number: 5427162
Abstract: There is disclosed a wood shaving device which utilizes a rotating cutting member that supports a plurality of cutting blades which move past a stationary doctor bar. The cutting blades are arranged in a spaced-apart array on the shaving device, lying along non-radial paths so that the predominant action is a successive impact of individual cutting blades, rather than a simultaneous impact of two or more blades against the wood scrap. The cutting blades are preferably supported on a rotating cutting wheel which has a plurality of through apertures, with one each of the cutting blades removably mounted immediately adjacent each through aperture. The cutting blades are rotated past the doctor bar which restricts movement of the wood, resulting in a shaving action on the wood. The wood shavings pass through the through apertures of the cutting wheel and are removed.

  • Patent number: 5417529
Abstract: There is disclosed an aerospace fastener system in which a threaded bolt fastener is secured with a free spinning threaded nut or collar and in which the engagement of the threaded members is fixedly secured by an adhesive. In this invention, the length of the bolt fastener is preselected such that when the fastener is applied in a maximum grip condition, the end of the bolt fastener does not project beyond the top surface of the nut or collar. In this invention, the bolt fastener can even be slightly shorter than the length necessary to reach the top surface of the nut or collar when the fastener still meets the tensile load requirement of the specific application. Preferably the adhesive also includes an ultra-violet light fluorescent pigment so that upon ultra-violet illumination, the correct application of the fastener can be easily observed.
