  • Patent number: 5955705
Abstract: A modular scale adapted to receive a rigid platform for supporting a weight has a frame having a base and a pair of legs extending from the base. The scale has a plurality of support assemblies adapted to be carried by the frame. Each support has at least one sensor wherein each sensor is adapted to provide a reference value and an output relative to a portion of the weight received. A display shows a numerical value corresponding to the composite sensor value. In a preferred embodiment the frame is generally "U"-shape. The frame defines a central open area between the legs, wherein legs from other modular scales can be placed in the central open area of the modular scale for shipping. Each of the legs has a foot projecting towards each other, and the support assemblies are carried by the feet and the base. The frame is made of a plastic and of a rib construction such that the frame is relatively light weight.

  • Patent number: 5943322
Abstract: Personal communications in a code division multiple access system operated without a base is provided with simultaneous transmission of a communications channel and a control channel, each spread by different PN codes. The PN code facilitates restricting communications on the network to a particular conversation mode and between identified radios. Transmissions are performed in a time division duplex manner in 62.5 milliseconds slots. One of the radios initiates transmission and maintains power control and time synchronization normally done by a base station. A network control station can voluntarily or by command transfer control of the network to any of the other radios on the network. Colliding transmissions from more than one radio require the radios to retry transmitting until one of the radios transmits in an earlier time slot.

  • Patent number: 5926906
Abstract: The invention relates to a wind deflector for fastening to the main bracket of a wiper blade with openings in its spine, whereby fastening is accomplished with first fastening sections for screwing and additional second fastening sections for locking at the side wall of the main bracket that is in front in the direction of travel. Second fastening sections are in each case made from two surfaces that face one another a short distance apart and are connected to one another at the upper edge, one surface of which has a catching projection at the lower edge which can engage under the lower edge of the side wall of the main bracket. To increase the strength or stability of second fastening section or the connection of wind deflector and the wiper blade, one of the two walls of fastening section is wider, at least at its lower edge, than the other and in each case has a catching projection in the laterally projecting areas.

  • Patent number: 5909381
Abstract: A system and a method is disclosed for on board prediction of a trajectory for satellites, which can be implemented on a computer with a limited number of bits. The system includes a compact force model that approximate the forces that the satellite encounters in an earth orbit. The compact force model includes a two body force component, a non-spherical earth gravitational force component, a solar radiation pressure component and a lunar-solar perturbation force component. An adder is coupled to the force model for combining the force components to produce an equation of motion approximating the acceleration of the satellite. An integrator is included for integrating the equation of motion approximating the acceleration of said satellite to produce an equation of motion approximating the displacement of the satellite, wherein the equation of motion approximating the displacement of the satellite is a reference trajectory.

  • Patent number: 5898519
Abstract: A lightweight night vision device that can be used by itself or can be selectively attached to either the objective lens assembly or ocular lens assembly of an existing optical device. The night vision device includes an image intensifier tube for amplifying low intensity light to produce a visible image. The image produced by the image intensifier tube is inverted. A prism assembly is positioned proximate to the image intensifier tube to reinvert the image in a space and cost efficient manner. The image intensifier tube, the power supply for the image intensifier tube and the reinverting prism are all contained within a house just large enough to accommodate these components. The housing has an objective port and an ocular port. Both ports are adapted to be joined to other optical components. As a result, a large variety of optical devices can be attached to either the object port or ocular port of the night vision device, thereby providing night vision capabilities to the optical device.

  • Patent number: 5886302
Abstract: An electrical weighing scale for measuring the weight of a user having has a substantially transparent platform, a plurality of supports, and a display assembly. Piezoresistive sensors, disposed in the supports, change resistance in response to a change in the weight applied to the scale. The piezoresistive sensors include piezoresistive elements arranged in a half bridge structure that has been calibrated to provide zero balance, span matching and impedance normalization. The sensors are coupled in parallel to a display. The parallel arrangements produces a composite output signal that enables any number of sensors to be used in the scales design.

  • Patent number: 5887036
Abstract: A logical block is disclosed for decoding a data sequence encoded by a convolutional code, in which a given number of states are to be evaluated. These given states are assigned the given number of state memories which store an associated path and an accumulated distance value. The given number of state memories are associated with parallel processing blocks which each have, as the smallest group to be processed in parallel, two state memories to be read from first and second parallel processing blocks, and two state memories to be written into third and fourth parallel processing blocks. Optimum memory organization permits simple parallel processing and reduction in circuit complexity.

  • Patent number: 5872416
Abstract: A rotating machine comprises a stator that is excited to vibrate to generate progressive surface waves at a frequency within a resonance frequency range of a predetermined rank. The rotor is designed so that the vibrations in the stator generate vibrations of the same frequency and of lower magnitude. A vibration sensor is mounted on the rotor to provide a signal. The difference in frequency between the excitation frequency of the stator and the vibration frequency detected on the rotor corresponds to the rotation speed of the rotor.
