Abstract: An electrodeless discharge lamp having an ultraviolet radiation transmission envelope containing a plasma-forming medium. The envelope is formed from two different types of quartz, one of which blocks transmission of ultraviolet radiation 253 nm and shorter, and the other of which transmits radiation of 253 nm or shorter. The quartz which transmits the short wavelength radiation serves as a window for transmitting into the envelope ultraviolet having a wavelength short enough to initiate ionization of the plasma-forming medium within the envelope.
Abstract: Fuel assembly for a pressurized water nuclear reactor, comprising a peripheral zone (1) consisting of a first group of rods (2) containing mainly enriched uranium oxide and a central zone (4) consisting of a second group of rods (5) containing mainly plutonium or uranium depleted in fissile uranium. The rods of the first zone (1) are spaced sufficiently so that the neutrons are slowed down to the thermal region. The rods of the second zone (4) are spaced by a distance which is appreciably smaller so that the neutrons produced in this zone (4) are in the high-energy region. The invention applies, in particular, to nuclear reactors with spectral shift.
Abstract: Quick-action coupling for the elements of an extension tube used in ocean oil well drilling, comprising a female tubular element (3) and a male tubular element (4) of the rising column. When fitted into another, these form between them an annular groove (10) open in its upper part and limited in its lower part by an axial bearing surface made on the periphery of one of the tubular elements (3, 4), this having a dimension sufficient to allow the locking collar (13) to be introduced.
Abstract: A piezoelectric oscillator is described comprising a piezoelectric element, e.g. a tuning fork (10), and a casing (20) formed by a pair of glass plates (22,24). The inner surfaces of the plates have recesses (26,27) that define a housing (28) in which the tuning fork (10) is located, and a pedestal (22a) to which the tuning fork (10) is secured. The inner surface of one of the plates (22) carries a conductive track (30), in the region of the pedestal (22a). This plate (22) is also formed with a hole (44) opening onto the conductive track (30) which seals it off.
Abstract: At an installation comprising a roll stand having at least one roll of the variable camber type, comprising a fixed support and a casing carried by at least three jacks and rotationally movable about the support, the pressure of the fluid in each of the jacks (14), the position of the pistons of these jacks, the speed of rotation of the roll, and the flatness and thickness of the flat product are measured. The position of one of the jacks (14b) is controlled by the thickness measurement. The pressure in the other jacks (14a, 14c, 14d, 14e) is controlled by the pressure in the one jack (14b). The positions of the end jacks (14a and 14e) are compared and the pressure in the jacks (14) is modified in order to bring the tilt of the roll to a suitable value. The deformation of the fixed support is calculated and the shape of the generatrix of contact of the roll is determined. The pressure in the jacks (14) is modified in order to bring the generatrix to a reference shape.

The first branch comprises a first zinc oxide varistor in series with a linear resistor and the second branch comprises a varistor with a higher "knee" voltage than the first zinc oxide varistor. The resistance of the linear resistor is preferably of the same order of magnitude as the absolute value of the impedance of the capacitor bank at the operating frequency of the power supply network. The "knee" voltage of the second varistor is at least 1.15 times (and preferably not more than 2.0 times) the "knee" voltage of the first varistor.
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for monitoring leaks in the primary circuit of a pressurized water nuclear reactor. The primary circuit consists of the vessel (1), the primary part of the steam generators (6), pipework (3, 4), the pressurizer (10) and various stocktanks (20). Connected to the primary circuit is at least one auxiliary circuit such as the circuit for volumetric and chemical monitoring comprising a stocktank (17). A sectioning of the primary circuit and of the circuit for volumetric and chemical monitoring into volume elements, excluding the stocktanks (20, 17) is determined. At regular time intervals, or steps, the mass of water in each of the volume elements and in each of the stocktanks is determined from measurements of pressure, temperature and levels and then, by addition, of the total mass of water.
Abstract: A tubular insulating cover, open at its both ends, has disposed therein a cylindrical shielding conductor coaxially therewith. First and second connector sockets are fitted into the cylindrical shielding conductor from its both ends, in which corresponding contacts of the first and second connector sockets are interconnected. The outer end faces of the first and second connector sockets each has cut therein an annular groove for receiving a cylindrical metal cover of a mating plug. An annular contact for engagement with the cylindrical metal cover of the plug is received in each of the annular grooves and terminals of the annular contacts are connected to the cylindrical shielding conductor.
Abstract: A radiation pyrometer has an inner tube with a lens mounted in a rear portion which is stepped to a forward portion of reduced diameter that is open at its forward end. An outer tube extends coaxially around the inner tube and is separated from it by an annular gas passage. The outer tube has an aperture at its forward end that is smaller that the external diameter of the forward end of the inner tube and larger than the internal diameter. The outer tube has gas inlets into the passage which are located rearwardly of the forward end of the inner tube, the area of the gas inlets being greater than the gap between the forward end of the inner tube and the outer tube. Gas flows through the inlets, along the passage, across the forward end of the inner tube and out the aperture, thereby setting up a substantially constant pressure in the rear portion of the inner tube and reducing the entry of contaminants.

Abstract: This display case includes a base on which may be arranged a tray of elastic material sufficiently rigid to define, by means of ribs, cells for the storage of the articles to be displayed. When the tray is within the base and the ribs upwardly disposed the display case is set up for transporting the articles. Following inverting of the tray, display elements provided with fastening means in the form of the tongue may be fastened to the tray by insertion of the tongue into a slot which each rib defines on the opposite surface of the tray. Under these conditions the display case is set up for showing the articles. The tray display elements which are readily moved may be stored in a compartment forseen to this purpose. According to a variant the tray may be independent and provided with stiffening elements associated with at least two opposed edges thereof.
Abstract: An air intake side secondary air supply system for an internal combustion engine having an air intake system using a carburetor and an air intake side secondary air supply passage leading to the downstream of the carburetor, and equipped with a fuel increment control system. The system includes an oxygen concentration sensor producing an output signal whose level is substantially proportional to an oxygen concentration of the exhaust gas, and an open/close valve disposed in the air intake side secondary air supply passage controlled in accordance the output signal of the oxygen concentration sensor. The system is adapted close the open/close valve continously to stop the air/fuel ratio control when an operation of the fuel increment control system is detected.
Abstract: In a block brake with brake block regulator, which maintains the brake block shoe (6) in a predetermined rotational position about its rotational axis (5) through friction blocks (20) and friction surfaces (14), the friction surfaces (14) are in the form of wedge surfaces, such that, upon rotation of the brake block shoe (6) under the influence of gravity, the friction blocks (20) must be forced back through the friction surfaces (14) against their spring loading (18). This enables compensation of the turning moment brought to bear on the brake block shoe (6) by the gravitational force.
