  • Patent number: 5983895
Abstract: A tracheostomy tube assembly comprises an outer tracheostomy tube and an inner cannula of a flexible material preformed to the shape of the outer tube and smooth on its inside and outside. The outer tube is straight at its patient end and has a short straight machine end with a coupling. The patient and machine ends are separated by a curved intermediate region divided along its length into two sub-regions. The first sub-region closer the machine end has a small radius of curvature; the other sub-region closer to the patient end has a radius of curvature at least three times that of the first sub-region. • Patent number: 5955725
Abstract: A digitizing CCD array system calibrates the CCD array precisely, masks a data medium automatically, and recovers data from the data medium accurately. The system uses a substantially opaque film mask to eliminate the effects of diffused light and flare during a digitization process when the data medium is smaller than an illumination source. A multiple optical density filters are used in calibrating the CCD array to provide a precise optical density reference for digitization of the data medium. In addition, the invention increases contrast sensitivity in data recovery by selectively switching the CCD array on and off to control the duration of multiple exposure times, i.e., integration periods, during a single line scan.

  • Patent number: 5946178
Abstract: A semiconductor assembly with overvoltage protection is provided. The semiconductor assembly comprises at least two series connected power semiconductors, each of which is protected by at least one overvoltage protection device. The overvoltage protection device is activated at a predetermined voltage. The overvoltage protection device may be coupled in parallel across the emitter and collector of the power semiconductor or between the collector and gate of the power semiconductor. The overvoltage protection device includes a capacitor and a rectifier connected in series with the capacitor. The rectifier prevents the capacitor from discharging when the power semiconductor is in a conducting state. A voltage controller is connected to the capacitor and determines the voltage level to which the capacitor is discharged after an activation of the overvoltage protection device.

  • Patent number: 5903838
Abstract: A control channel is searched for call waiting in a mobile station where the power supply for a receiving circuit is turned off during a break time of receiving level measurements, wherein in a first control channel selection mode, all the control channels are divided into a plurality of groups, the receiving levels of the control channels are measured group by group intermittently and sequentially. The intermittent measurement of these groups are repeated until a control channel having a receiving level equal to or greater than a first predetermined value is detected. • Patent number: 5900535
Abstract: An ultrasonic fuel-gauging system has a tank with several ultrasonic probes having reflectors spaced along their length. A vibrating cylinder densitometer is located at the bottom of the tank and provides an output to a control unit representative of fuel density at that location. The control unit calculates the speed of sound reflected from the reflector closest to the densitometer and uses this and the density measurement to calculate a fuel constant. The control unit calculates the density of fuel at different heights from the fuel constant and speed of sound measurements from other reflectors. From these density measurements the control unit calculates mean density and fuel mass.
