Patent number: 7831884Abstract: A method of correcting errors in a message transmitted over a digital communication channel, where the message was encoded using a CRC for purposes of error detection. A parity-check matrix representation of the CRC is computed for any fixed-length message, and that parity-check matrix is combined with the parity-check matrix for any error correcting code that used in conjunction with the CRC. The combined parity-check matrix is extended using sparsification algorithms to allow it to work well under a message passing decoder (MPD). Received messages are decoded using the message passing decoder, making it possible to correct more errors than if the CRC were decoded in a conventional manner.Type: GrantFiled: August 9, 2007Date of Patent: November 9, 2010Assignee: Aclara Power-Line Systems Inc.Inventor: Quentin Spencer

Patent number: 7156080Abstract: A fuel flow control valve (10) for an in-tank fuel module (M) to control fuel flow to a fuel pump (P) from either a fuel tank (T) in which the module is installed or a fuel module reservoir (V). The valve includes a disc (32) having a plurality of slots (50) formed therein through which fuel flows from an opening (O) in the module to the fuel pump. The disc is mounted on the head (40) of a valve stem (36). This allows the valve to move between one position opening a fuel flow path between the fuel tank and the fuel pump and a second position opening a fuel flow path between the fuel reservoir and the fuel pump, the valve, when opening one of the flow paths, simultaneously blocking the other flow path.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 2005Date of Patent: January 2, 2007Assignee: Airtex CorporationInventors: R. Patent number: 6454484Abstract: A pivot socket of the present invention incorporates a stud shaft component having a lower part-spherical head portion disposed within a housing cavity, and an axial pin extension extending upward into the cavity therefrom. The lower part-spherical head portion seats against a partial spherical bearing surface disposed within the housing cavity, and the axial pin extension is enclosed within a corrugated or crinkled coil compliance bearing formed from sheet steel. During use, lateral and axial loads imparted on the stud shaft are transformed into radial and axial component forces at the partial spherical bearing surface and the corrugated or crinkled coil compliance bearing. The radial force components are distributed to the interior walls of the housing cavity, while the axial force components are transferred axially through the corrugated or crinkled coil compliance bearing to the end closure components secured to the housing.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 2001Date of Patent: September 24, 2002Assignee: Federal-Mogul World Wide, Inc.Inventors: Glen C. Patent number: 5979336Abstract: A portable and adjustable ironing board system in which the ironing board may be securely affixed to a door is shown. The ironing board system of the present invention includes a singular support tube extending along the height of the door and securely attached to both upper and lower edges of the door. The ironing board system has an adjustable ironing board height and the singular support tube is adjustable to securely affix the tube to the door. The ironing board may be placed in the useful horizontal position or in the stored vertical position. The design of the ironing board system provides that the rear end of the ironing board slides along the support tube in a manner such that when in the vertical stored position the upper surface of the ironing board is facing outward. The ironing board can be locked in the downward horizontal position or in the stored vertical position by locking clamps. Further adjustment of the ironing board are allowed by the use of adjustment feet on the support frame.Type: GrantFiled: January 10, 1997Date of Patent: November 9, 1999Assignee: Whitney Design, Inc.Inventors: John R. Nottingham, John W. Spirk, Richard O. McCarthy, Nicholas E. Stanca, Jeffery M. Kalman

Patent number: 5931751Abstract: An arrowhead with a removable blade captured within a doubly terminated slot is disclosed. When a number of blades are used, the interlocking blade bodies have complementary recesses whereby each interlocking blade is received into the other interlocking blades. The arrowhead may be integral with and a portion of an arrow, or it may be a separate, detachable ferrule. The tip of the arrowhead is either a unique slotted pyramid, or a conventional cone or spear. Securement of a blade within the arrowhead is achieved through an attachment to the arrowhead. This attachment may perform other functions in the arrowhead, for instance the attachment may also function as the tip of the arrowhead.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 1997Date of Patent: August 3, 1999Inventor: Gary L. Cooper

Patent number: 5914609Abstract: A method and system is provided for calibrating a plurality of electrical circuits used to charge and test a plurality of battery cells. An improved cell rack module includes at least one movable platen having a plurality of pin assemblies removably secured thereto. The movable platen is slidably movable within the cell rack module between an extended position or a retracted position. Extension mechanisms are used to force the movable platen into the extended position during calibration, charging and testing procedures, and retraction mechanisms return the platen to the retracted position when the extension mechanisms are not actuated. When the movable platen is in the extended position, the pin assemblies are maintained in electrical contact with either the battery cells associated with a conventional cell tray or contact plates associated with a calibration tray.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 1996Date of Patent: June 22, 1999Assignee: Bitrode CorporationInventors: Thomas E. Patent number: 5720388Abstract: A golf club shaft protector is disclosed as including an elongated hollow plastic tube having a polygonal cross-sectional configuration with an unequal number of sides interconnected to each other by corner sections. Each of the unequal number of sides have the same predetermined length and each of the corner sections have the same predetermined angular shape. One of each of the corner sections faces one of each of the sides. Preferably, the unequal number of sides is at least seven to provide the largest possible opening with the greatest amount of rigidity for receiving the golf club shaft, including a golf club handle. The golf club shaft protector also includes a tubular element mounted adjacent the open upper end of the hollow plastic tube and includes an outer wall section, an inner wall section and flexible lip sections.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 1996Date of Patent: February 24, 1998Assignee: Sinclair & Rush, Inc.Inventors: Jon E. Patent number: 5683301Abstract: A movable occupant directed recreational equipment device is disclosed. The device includes an enclosure having at least one opening for entry of an occupant and a support for suspending the enclosure above a floor or ground surface. The support and enclosure are constructed to permit movement of the enclosure relative to the support in at least one predetermined path. An occupant directed controller within the enclosure is provided for directing movement of the enclosure relative to the support in the at least one predetermined path. Preferably, the enclosure and support are constructed to permit movement of the support in at least two predetermined paths through a dual axis pivoting mechanism, although additional movement of the enclosure relative to the support is provided in pathways outside of the at least two predetermined paths which are generally transverse to one another.Type: GrantFiled: April 17, 1996Date of Patent: November 4, 1997Assignee: Soft Play, L.L.C.Inventors: James O.
