  • Patent number: 4731323
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods for measurement and detection which employ a photosensitive indicator which may be prepared from a composition capable of offering a visual, calibrated reaction to the presence of ultraviolet radiation. The indicator preferably employs a composition comprising a complex of a leuco dye and animal-derived serum albumin. The leuco dye-serum albumin complex is capable of exacting calibration, so that scientifically significant quantitative measurements of radiation falling within the wavelengths of ultraviolet light and lower may be made. Numerous techniques useful in a variety of diagnostic applications are made possible, including the measurement of bioactive materials that are independently capable of absorbing ultraviolet wave energy, as well as bioactive materials that by association with certain ancillary materials capable of modulating their ultraviolet light absorption may similarly be quantitatively measured.

  • Patent number: 4726471
Abstract: The invention describes the package of cut and creased sheet material for receiving stacks of tea bags. The package is erected to a receiving position by folding and gluing the cut and creased blank to define an intermediate position of the package in which a side is open for the reception of the tea bags. After insertion of the tea bags, the side is closed by means of a closure panel glued to the remainder of the package. The thus sealed package also has defined therein at one end a flip top type lid which can be broken open giving access to the package contents. The invention also provides a method of inserting tea bags into the package followed by the closing of same to provide a sealed unit.

  • Patent number: 4720315
Abstract: A method for the preparation of selectively decorated resin films comprises applying a first primer coat to the entire area of the base film, then applying either a masking coat alone or one or more color coats followed by the masking coat, the masking coat applied to an area of the base film that will define the final selective decoration. The masking coated surface is thereafter metalized and the resulting composite is joined to a mask-removing film bearing a pressure-sensitive adhesive having a limited peel strength known as "soft peel". The process is completed by the separation of the respective films, with the mask removing film withdrawing from the base film the unwanted portions of the metal coat and its underlying masking coat, to leave a crisp, patterned decoration. The present process requires no solvents and is therefore environmentally preferred.

  • Patent number: 4712358
Abstract: The invention provides a machine for manufacturing and handling tea bags, wherein the tea bags are produced by laminating together two webs with individual quantities for tea therebetween. Two rows of tea bags, formed in the webs, and the tea in the bags is biased upwardly of the webs. This is followed by severing of the webs into two individual single tea bag row webs, and this is followed by transverse severing of the web to produce individual tea bags. The tea bags are held into magazines so as to form two stacks therein and stacks of tea bags are moved laterally of the magazine into the inserting device and the inserting device places the two stacks of tea bags into a carton. The two stacks of tea bags are placed together prior to insertion of the carton and extra conversion is given to the stacks to compensate for revising the tea.

  • Patent number: 4709846
Abstract: Apparatus for the continuous hot tinning of printed circuit boards includes conveying rollers for passing the circuit boards through the apparatus, and a trough for accommodating the molten tin, together with nozzles for applying tin from the trough to appropriate locations on the circuit boards. A hollow column is disposed at at least one side and preferably at both sides of the path of conveying movement of the circuit boards through the apparatus, with the open lower end of the or each column dipping into the trough so as to be below the level of the molten tin therein. Tin is pumped from the trough through the columns by pumps at the lower ends thereof, and then to the nozzles arranged above and below the path of conveying movement and directed so as to spray molten tin on to the printed circuit boards. In a process using the apparatus for soldering the connecting pins of components to a circuit board, molten tin from a trough is sprayed against the underside of the board at the appropriate locations.
