    Abstract: A radio frequency transmission module is adapted to generate a first signal to be transmitted and to convert the signal to a radio frequency carrier for its radio transmission, in an operational phase, and is adapted to generate a second signal and to convert the second signal to the radio frequency carrier, in a calibration phase. The module includes a calibration unit having a subsampler adapted to subsample the second converted signal and a calculation unit adapted to calculate Fourier Transform coefficients representative of the signal delivered by the subsampler, for the purposes of processing the first signal to be transmitted, in the operational phase, as a function of at least some of the Fourier coefficients calculated in the calibration phase.

    Abstract: An entire radio transceiver can be completely integrated into one IC chip. In order to integrate the IF filters on the chip, a heterodyne architecture with a low IF is used. A single, directly modulated VCO is used for both up-conversion during transmission, and down-conversion during reception. Bond-wires are used as resonators in the oscillator tank for the VCO. A TDD scheme is used in the air interface to eliminate cross-talk or leakage. A Gaussian-shaped binary FSK modulation scheme is used to provide a number of other implementation advantages.

    Abstract: The present invention helps to mitigate and reduce the amount of interfering signals (e.g. RF leakage) that enter the phase detector of a phase locked loop by acting as a less than perfect sampler. This is accomplished by introducing a time jitter to the signal edges that enter the phase detector input. A phase detector can also be made to act as a less than perfect sampler by intentionally introducing an interfering signal. For example, a small interfering analog signal can be introduced with a different frequency from the reference frequency already present in the PLL. The interfering signal will cause the stable internal signal to vary slightly in time at the rate of the interfering signal frequency. It is this signal variation and jitter introduced on the signal edges entering the phase detector input that induces the phase detector to act as a less than perfect sampler.

Each circuit has an independent signal path to the common terminal which contains a filter and a device. Each device has a first and a second state. Each circuit has a second filter characteristic which substantially blocks the first and second frequency bands when the device is in the second state, wherein the second filter characteristic is a result of the device and a filter acting in combination. As a result, the frequency multiplexer can have multiple frequency bands in a narrow frequency range connected to a common terminal with minimum signal loss.

To permit the use of a session-oriented (connection-oriented) protocol stack when the transmission medium between the mobile and non-mobile devices is connectionless, the mobile device sends an initial communication to the non-mobile device. In response to receipt of the initial communication, a session identifier is generated. A first connection-oriented protocol frame is then formed that includes an initial response and the session identifier. The first connection-oriented protocol frame is embedded in a first connectionless protocol frame, and the first connectionless protocol frame is sent to the mobile device. Although the mobile device initiates the session, the session is controlled by the non-mobile device.

Finally, if a third time offset is detected or if the co-channel interferer has a low signal strength, then a conventional detection procedure is selected and performed.

    Abstract: The volume of a loudspeaker in a telephone is automatically adjusted according to the ambient noise at the telephone location. During a predetermined time window which exists during the initial period of a telephone call, the ambient noise is measured, and the volume of the loudspeaker adjusted accordingly. For example, the time period may exist between the time when the telephone goes off-hook, until the time when the handset is placed near the ear. Adjusting the ambient noise during this period has the advantage of not having to filter out the user's speech, as would be the case when measuring the ambient noise while the user is speaking. Furthermore, there is no requirement for circuitry which detects gaps in speech.
