Abstract: An electrophotographic marking apparatus and an automatic method for automatically scanning and correcting TAB pressure non-uniformity using a cross-process uniformity controller and a closed loop system. The TAB is contacted with an image on a photoreceptor surface to leave its imprint or footprint on the image, which are analyzed for TAB performance and pressure. This method uses a CPUC full width array in conjunction with a software version for assessing TAB performance. This method continuously monitors the TAB performance during the running of a marking apparatus.

Abstract: A method for adding a user's e-mail address to the address book of a networked document output device includes receiving an electronic message from a user, automatically extracting the sender's electronic address, and automatically adding the electronic address to an address book used by the document output device. A networked document output device includes memory for storing document data, means for sending document to users on a network, means for receiving electronic communications from a networked user, and a controller for practicing a method that includes extracting an electronic address from a received e-mail, and adding the user's address to a local address book.
Abstract: This is a mandrel used to fabricate seamless belts including those used in electrophotographic marking systems. The mandrel has a center core unit with two circular caps on each side. In between the caps is sandwiched a deformable O-ring which is outwardly deformed upon tightening of the two caps together. Once a tubular sheet is placed over the mandrel, the elastomeric O-ring will hold the sheet in place for further processing.

Abstract: An apparatus fixes ink on a substrate, such as in ink-jet printing. A leveling member is positioned to contact an ink-bearing side of the substrate at a nip. A radiation source is positioned to direct radiation to the ink-bearing side of the substrate at the nip, the radiation suitable for curing the ink on the substrate.

Abstract: This is a baffle used in a transfer station of an electrophotographic marking system. The baffle has a series of air passages that, when these passages are opened, they apply pressure to a sheet of paper and push it upward against a belt or drum surface of a photoreceptor or photoconductor. The toner imaged photoreceptor then transfers the image to the paper that is in contact with it. From the transfer station, the paper with the transferred image is then moved to the fuser station where the image is fused to the paper. The baffle with air passages does not scratch the photoconductor surface as do the prior art systems. Also, the baffle has a much longer useful life than the more costly lift finger transfer blades previously used. A controller senses when a sheet enters the transfer station, senses the paper size, then activates a number of air passages to match the paper size.
Abstract: A method, a biometric identifier collection device, and a set of instructions are disclosed. A memory 208 may store a digital image having a biometric identifier. A processor 204 may execute a lighting compensation to remove a lighting effect from the biometric identifier. The processor 204 may process the biometric identifier to create an identification profile.

Abstract: Apparatuses useful in printing, fixing devices and methods of preheating substrates in apparatuses useful in printing are provided. An exemplary embodiment of the apparatuses useful in printing includes a first member including a first surface; a second member including a second surface forming a nip with the first surface; a substrate cooler disposed downstream from the nip to receive a first substrate exiting the nip, the substrate cooler removing heat from the first substrate by conduction; a substrate pre-heater disposed upstream from the nip; and a first heat transfer system for transferring heat from the substrate cooler to the substrate pre-heater. The substrate pre-heater applies the heat to conductively pre-heat a second substrate before the second substrate enters the nip.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for feeding media sheets in an image production device is disclosed. The method may include applying a downward airflow to a top of a leading edge of a media sheet located at a top of a media stack that is to be fed to an image production section of the image production device, and applying a vacuum airflow to the top of the leading edge of the media sheet located at the top of the media stack that is to be fed to the image production section of the image production device, the applied downward airflow and the applied vacuum airflow causing the top media sheet to separate from the media stack, and feeding the separated top media sheet to the image production section.
