  • Patent number: 6042156
Abstract: A double jaw latch mechanism for releasably securing a moveable structure to a keeper. The moveable structure may be an aircraft cowling and the keeper may be mounted to an aircraft structure. The double jaw latch includes a handle rotatably mounted to a housing. The handle has an open position, a closed position, and a pre-catch position. The handle is connected to a double jaw assembly which likewise has an open position, a closed position, and a pre-catch position. The double jaw assembly includes a first jaw and a second jaw mounted in pivoted relation for movement to and from each other to engage the keeper. When the double jaw latch is in the open position, the jaws are spaced apart to permit disengagement with the keeper. In the closed position, the jaws are trapped within the housing and rigidly retain the keeper.

  • Patent number: 6039999
Abstract: Disclosed is a reduced fat peanut butter product containing from about 30% to about 75% of a nut paste, from about 15% to about 45% of at least one water-soluble non-fat dry solid, from about 0% to about 10% added edible oil, from about 0% to about 30% of a water-insoluble non-fat dry solid and from about 0% to about 3% emulsifier. The reduced fat peanut butter is prepared by combining all the ingredients, then, intimately mixing the resulting combination by passing the combination through an extruder mixer. The mixture is then milled and homogenized under a pressure of from about 4,000 psig to about 14,000 psig.

  • Patent number: 6034297
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for expressing hepatitis C virus in an in vivo, animal model. Viable, hepatitis C virus-infected, human hepatocytes are transplanted into a liver parenchyma of a scid/scid mouse host. The scid/scid mouse host is then maintained in a viable state, for up to five days or greater, whereby viable, morphologically intact human hepatocytes persist in the donor tissue and hepatitis C virus is replicated in the persisting human hepatocytes.

  • Patent number: 6032146
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and article of manufacture for a computer-implemented random reliability engine for computer-implemented dimension reduction using association rules for data mining application. The data mining is performed by the computer to retrieve data from a data store stored on a data storage device coupled to the computer. The data store has records that have multiple attributes. The multiple attributes of a table are clustered to produce a plurality of sets of attributes. Each set of attributes is clustered to obtain data mining attributes.

  • Patent number: 6030386
Abstract: An orthopedic fixation device in which two or more translation members are secured to adjacent tissue segments for reorientation relative to each other. The device includes telescopically adjustable struts that can be secured to base members by connectors that permit movement of the struts relative to the base members. Rotation of the struts is possible about three axes that intersect at a single coincident point of universal rotation.

  • Patent number: 6027751
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for preparing temperature-sensitive, shelf-stable, high-acid or acidified, tomato-based food products. From about 0.000125% to about 0.00125% nisin, and in preferred embodiments from about 0.00025% to about 0.0005% nisin, based on the weight of the food product, is first mixed with the tomato-base. Other ingredients, such as pieces of fresh tomatoes, onions, bell peppers and the like are then combined with the nisin-containing mixture. The combination is then heat-treated at a temperature less than about 180.degree. F.

  • Patent number: 6020155
Abstract: A method for producing a complementary DNA (cDNA) library enriched in ligand-inducible genes of a cell is described. The method includes activating a cellular ligand receptor for a predetermined period of time in the presence of labelled RNA precursors and a substance which enhances the level of RNA in the cell. The RNA precursors are incorporated into the RNA synthesized by the cell in response to receptor activation. The labelled RNA is separated from unlabelled RNA and used to prepare cDNA. The cDNA is cloned into host cells to provide a cDNA library of cDNA-containing clones, which is then screened for clones containing ligand-induced genes. Also described are several novel ligand-induced genes identified using the method of the invention.

  • Patent number: 6010224
Abstract: A reflector assembly is provided for efficiently collecting and forming the electromagnetic radiation from a radiation source into a desired beam pattern. The reflector assembly uses a smaller non-symmetrical generally convex reflector and a larger non-symmetrical generally concave reflector. The generally convex reflector intercepts a large fraction of light emitted by the source that would otherwise escape without interacting with the assembly and redirects this light onto the generally concave reflector for eventual inclusion in the beam.

  • Patent number: 6006220
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and article of manufacture for a computer implemented query compiler. A query is executed in a computer, the query being performed by the computer to retrieve data from a database stored on a data storage device connected to the computer. The query is received containing at least one variable. At execution time, a value is determined for each variable in the query. A filter factor is estimated using the determined value for each variable. Then, an access path is determined for the query using the estimated filter factor.
