Abstract: The invention concerns transparent, flame-retardant, single layered or multilayered thermoformable films, containing a crystallizable thermoplastic material, preferably polyethyleneterephthalate, and at least one flame retarding agent as main components. Said films are characterized by good stretchability, thermoformability and good mechanical and optical properties, which makes them and the shaped bodies made from said films suitable for both inner and outer applications.

Abstract: Transparent, biaxially oriented polyester films having a base layer composed of at least 5% by weight of a thermoplastic polyester and from 10 to 95% by weight of a cycloolefin copolymer having a glass transition temperature of less than 120° C., possess very good water vapor barrier properties and low haze at the same time. These films are especially suitable for packaging foods and other consumables.
Abstract: Transparent, multilayer, biaxially oriented polyester films having a) a base layer B composed of at least 50% by weight of a thermoplastic polyester and from 0 to 30% by weight of a cycloolefin copolymer and b) an outer layer composed of from 20 to 100% by weight of a cycloolefin copolymer, the glass transition temperature of the cycloolefin copolymers being less than 120° C., possess very good water vapor barrier properties and effective adhesion between the layers. These films are especially suitable for packaging foods and other consumables.
Abstract: A process for the preparation of sorbic acid by thermal cleavage of the polyester prepared from crotonaldehyde and ketene, in the presence of a solvent and of an amine as catalyst with simultaneous distillation out of the sorbic acid formed and of the solvent through a rectification column with reflux, wherein only the solvent rather than the distillate is used as reflux, leads to high yields of sorbic acid and to a reduced consumption of amine catalyst.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a highly stable, readily handleable preparation for use in animal feeds. The preparation comprises sorbic acid, at least one other liquid acid and one other solid organic acid and if appropriate a carrier. The active compound content (as acid) is always greater than 80% by weight. In addition, the invention relates to the use of the preparation alone in feeds or in mixture with other feed additives to improve the hygienic status of the feed and for growth promotion in farm animal husbandry.
Abstract: The invention relates to a transparent, biaxially oriented polyester film with a base layer B, at least 80% by weight of which is composed of a thermoplastic polyester, and with at least one outer layer A. The outer layer A is composed of a copolymer or a mixture of polymers/copolymers which contains ethylene 2,6-naphthalate units in a range of from 90 to 98% by weight and up to 10% by weight of ethylene terephthalate units, and/or units derived from cycloaliphatic or aromatic diols and/or dicarboxylic acids. Its thickness is more than 0.7 &mgr;m and makes up less than 25% by weight of the total film and the Tg2 value of the polyester film is above the Tg2 value of the base layer, but below the Tg2 value of the polyester for the outer layer. The transparent film has low permeability to atmospheric oxygen and exhibits very good adhesion between the individual layers. It is particularly suitable for packaging purposes, specifically for packaging foods or other consumable items.

Abstract: A transparent, biaxially oriented polyester film is disclosed, with a base layer B which comprises at least 80% by weight of thermoplastic polyester, and with at least one intermediate layer Z, and with at least one outer layer A. The outer layer A is composed of a polymer or of a mixture of polymers which contains at least 85% by weight of ethylene 2,6-naphthalate units and up to 15% by weight of ethylene terephthalate units, and/or up to 15% by weight of units derived from cycloaliphatic or aromatic diols and/or dicarboxylic acids, and the intermediate layer Z is composed of a mixture of polymers which contains at least 3% by weight of ethylene 2,6-naphthalate units and up to 97% by weight of ethylene terephthalate units, and/or up to 97% by weight of units derived from cycloaliphatic or aromatic diols and/or dicarboxylic acids. The Tg2 value of the polyester film is above the Tg2 value of the base layer B, but below the Tg2 value of the outer layer A.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a product for use in animal feedstuffs. The product comprises sorbic acid and live or dead microorganisms which secrete bacteriocins, or the bacteriocins themselves or combinations thereof and, where appropriate, a carrier. The invention further relates to the use of the product on its own in feedstuffs or in a mixture with other feed additives for improving the hygienic status of the feed and for improving performance in agricultural livestock rearing.
Abstract: Polyester films which comprise a stabilizer for inhibiting oxidative degradation, at least some of which has been covalently incorporated into the polymer chain of the polyester through polycondensation during formation of the polyester, have not only high resistance to oxidation but also very few surface defects and high stability during processing, and are suitable not only for use as a packaging material but for a wide variety of other technical applications.
Abstract: Complex compounds containing acesulfame have good antimicrobial action, in particular antibacterial action, and are distinguished by the fact that they are complex compounds of metallic elements such as zinc, copper, silver, or nonmetallic quaternary ammonium cations, such as the cetylpyridinium cation, with acesulfame. The invention also relates to a process for preparing the compounds and their use in the oral hygiene sector.
Abstract: The invention relates to a packaging material made of a multilayer oriented polyolefin film, which comprises a base layer and at least one first outer layer, whereby the first outer layer is placed in contact with itself or in contact with the opposing surface of the film or in contact with the surface of another film. This first outer layer contains an additive which absorbs light within the wavelength range of a laser such that when the film is locally irradiated by the laser, the area of irradiation experiences an increase in temperature that causes the polyolefin of the first outer layer to soften or melt in the irradiated area and to bond to another layer when cooled.
Abstract: The invention relates to a composite laminate, especially a transdermal therapeutic system (TTS) that contains in at least one layer a component that is sensitive to moisture. Said system further comprises one layer that is spatially separate from said at least one moisture-sensitive layer and that is capable of absorbing moisture. The spatial separation can be achieved by means of a horizontal or vertical separation layer.
Abstract: The invention relates to a co-extruded, biaxially oriented polyester film consisting of a base layer and at least one outer layer. The film contains at least one flame-retardant agent, at least one UV-stabilizer and has a matt outer layer which contains a mixture and/or a blend of two components (I) and (II), whereby component (I) is substantially a polyethylene terephthalate homopolymer, or a polyethylene terephthalate copolymer, or a mixture of polyethylene terephthalate homopolymers or polyethylene terephthalate copolymers, and component (II) is a polymer containing at least one sulphonate group.

Abstract: Acidified beverages are prepared including an oligosaccharide such as inulin or oligofructose and a high intensity sweetener. In the acidic environment of the beverage, suitable oligosaccharides hydrolyze to their sweeter components, thus compensating for loss of high intensity sweetener due to its decomposition over time.
