  • Patent number: 6033782
Abstract: A magnetodielectric composition is made of flakes of magnetic material dispersed in a binder at a concentration of about 30 to 60%. The flakes consist of a thin film of magnetic material or alternating thin film layers of magnetic material and insulating material. The flakes do not include a substrate. Consequently, the effective volume concentration of magnetic material in the composition is far greater than with other magnetodielectric materials. The binder is selected to provide a fluent composition for application like paint or a setable composition for formation of sheets and molded structural elements. In use, the composition is effective to reduce the size, weight and volume of electrical devices such as antennas, delay lines, phase shifters and other devices requiring interaction with and/or magnetic response to high frequency radiation.

  • Patent number: 6030671
Abstract: A solar control window film having low emissivity minimizes the transfer of thermal energy through window glass by thermal radiation between a temperature controlled interior environment and a uncontrolled exterior environment. The film is comprised of a transparent flexible polymeric substrate bearing various transparent thin film layers of coating materials, including a highly reflective metal. The film is devoid of laminations and laminating adhesives and provides high visual light transmission of up to 50% or more while maintaining a very low emissivity of 0.30 or less. The film is especially suited for retrofitting existing plain glass windows to convert the same to solar control windows.

  • Patent number: 6019304
Abstract: A retractable reel assembly comprises double tear drop shaped housing, a spool disposed in the housing and journaled for rotation about an axis, the spool and housing defining a plurality of chambers within the housing around the axis. The spool and housing define a cable storage chamber with a second length of cable retractably stored therein and a cable expansion chamber with a length of cable stored therein, a spring chamber and a ratchet chamber. The housing also has a spring takeup compartment and cable adjustment compartment located on a second parallel axis. A constant force spring extends from the spring storage chamber to the spring takeup compartment to urge the spool to rotate in a cable retracting direction.

  • Patent number: 6008281
Abstract: A powder injection molding composition or feedstock is made of 70% or more by weight of a powdered metal or ceramic and 30% or less by weight of a binder system. The binder system contains a sufficient amount of polypropylene or polyethylene to hold the so-called brown preform of the molded metal or ceramic powder together for the sintering step of the injection molding process and a sufficient amount of partially hydrolyzed cold water soluble polyvinyl alcohol water and plasticizer to facilitate molding of the composition into the so- called green preform of the article to be manufactured. The debinding step of the injection molding process for transforming the green preform into the brown preform consists simply of immersing the green preform in water at ambient temperature to dissolve the polyvinyl alcohol. The binder system is nonhazardous, safe, harmless and fully degradable.

  • Patent number: 5993212
Abstract: A denture retaining unit comprises a ball and socket structure, the socket being adapted for incorporation into a denture. The ball is a truncated sphere providing a flat face for magnetic engagement with a flat face of a magnetizable keeper, which keeper is adapted to be secured to a support member extending from the jaw. The unit permits lateral and/or angular movement between the denture in which the socket is embedded and the keeper, while the flat faces of the keeper and the sphere remain fully magnetically engaged. The sphere and the keeper have interengaging portions for limiting lateral movement therebetween and for preventing disengagement of the flat faces of the keeper and the sphere.

  • Patent number: 5976112
Abstract: An injection syringe for injecting a fluid into the arterial, venous, muscular or cavity structures of a patient via subcutaneous, percutaneous, intravascular and other types of injections comprises a hollow syringe body, a passageway at a distal end of the syringe for passage of fluid into and out of the syringe and a substantially open proximal end for receiving a plunger assembly. The plunger assembly includes a movable plunger assembly. A moveable plunger cooperates with the syringe body and the proximal end of the syringe to define a fluid chamber of variable volume in fluid communication with the passageway. Actuating means actuates movement of the plunger. An elastomeric barrier cooperates with the plunger and the open end of the syringe to define a sterile chamber between the actuating means and the fluid chamber to prevent passage of fluids from the fluid chamber to the actuating means and the passage of contaminants from the open end of the syringe in the fluid chamber.

  • Patent number: 5968270
Abstract: A fountain applicator for applying coating liquid onto a web of paper carried past the applicator, has a coating liquid flow path that includes a curved surface along which a sheet of the coating liquid is flowed to subject the sheet to centrifugal force to cause air entrained in the coating liquid to move away from one side of the sheet that is toward the curved surface, so that the one side is relatively free of entrained air. After being flowed along the curved surface, the sheet of coating liquid is directed toward the web in a free standing jet curtain of coating liquid, to contact the web surface primarily with the one relatively air-free side of the coating liquid sheet to decrease the occurrence of skip coating on the web surface, especially when the web is traveling past the applicator at high speeds. The coating is applied in excess onto the web surface and is metered and leveled to a desired coat weight by a downstream doctor.

  • Patent number: 5963150
Abstract: A golf cart or caddy and a mobile transmitting device carried by a golf player are each provided with a receiving and evaluating device equipped with a computer for a satellite-controlled positioning system. The two receiving and evaluating devices calculate the respective positions of the golf player and the golf caddy from the signals cyclically received from the satellite system. The mobile transmitting device is provided with a high-frequency manual transmitter which transmits, also cyclically, the positions of the golf player to the golf caddy. The computer of the golf caddy calculates direction and distance of the golf player and stores the data up to the time when the caddy follows the stored path upon a signal. The golf caddy stops at a predetermined distance from the golf player.

  • Patent number: 5952082
Abstract: A recording medium particularly suitable for electrophotographic copying is characterized by coated paper that for a given basis weight has proportionally less coating and proportionally more fiber than conventional coated paper made for electrophotographic processes. The base sheet of the coated paper is preferably formed square on a paper machine wet end and has on the order of 40-50% less filler than conventional sheet paper made for electrophotographic processes. After being formed and dried, the base sheet is provided with a top coat weight that is approximately 60% less than the typical coat weight used for conventional paper. The coating is formulated to have sufficient viscosity to stay more on the surface of the base sheet. The coated sheet is calendered to a medium gloss on the order of a 75.degree. TAPPI gloss of about 45, both to preserve a degree of surface roughness to enhance runnability of the paper through an electrophotographic copier and to provide a pleasant and easily readable surface.
