  • Patent number: 4725139
Abstract: A method of detecting defects present at the surface and/or internally in transparent materials, particularly of detecting included foreign bodies or bubbles in glass, is disclosed. The test material is scanned with an electromagnetic radiation of a single wavelength which is set to the penetration depth in the test material. The intensity reflected by the defects is picked up and analyzed. By this method only defects located up to a specified depth in the material are detected. Visible light as well as UV- or IR radiation may be applied. The associated test rig comprises a tunable Laser (2), a conveyor belt (6) carrying the test material (5), a fast rotating mirror-wheel (3) which directs the light beam (4) at high speed over the test material (5), and an optical sensor (7) connected with an analyzer unit (8).

  • Patent number: 4708745
Abstract: A process for the preparation and immediate use in situ of ready to use blends of structural material, such as plaster, mortar, stucco, tile adhesive or similar blends, which, in contrast to the usual methods does not use as a raw material a dry mixture of the three main components binder, filler and additives. Instead a dry mix of binder and filler is prepared at the building site, and an aqueous solution of the additives is added in a separate mixing operation, immediately followed by the application in situ of the finished blend. This method avoids the difficulties associated with the use of dry mixtures containing all three components. The invention includes an apparatus for mixing and immediate application of the blends as defined by the process claims.

  • Patent number: 4706410
Abstract: The insect trap of the present invention comprises a conical shell having a downwardly and inwardly tapered sidewall and an upstanding annular rim provided at the top of the sidewall. Baffles are positioned within the conical shell and extend upwardly therefrom. An insect receptacle is provided into which the bottom of the conical shell opens. The baffles of the insect trap preferably comprises four fins, each fin having a slot and an aperture formed therein. Flat insect lures which extend through the slots in the fins are provided in the baffles and a plug-like insect lure is positioned in the aperture in one of the fins of the baffles. The two types of insect lures effectively attract insects into the insect trap such that insects like the baffles, fall downwardly through the conical shell and are captured in the insect receptacle.

  • Patent number: 4706936
Abstract: With a lifting and depositing device for portable box-like articles, in order to be able to operate their rack and pinion jacks manually and with ease by crank assemblies, each crank assembly has a haft-like crankcase, which has at one end a rotatable crankshaft and at the other end a rotatable drive shaft, which can be connected with an adjacent rack and pinion jack having a winch housing. The crankshaft and drive shaft are operatively connected with each other so that the latter is driven by the former. The crankcase can be connected with an adjacent winch housing and be pivoted into different work positions as well as fixed in such positions on the winch housing. Thus, the operation of the rack and pinion jacks is especially simplified in their top and bottom end positions on the uprights of the lifting and depositing device.

  • Patent number: 4696148
Abstract: A fluid continuously variable transmission system that includes a body forming a cylindrical chamber. A rotor with blades positioned in the chamber is connected to a power input shaft. The rotor is rotatably movable relative to the body, which in turn is connected to a power output shaft. A valve, preferably a rotary plug valve, is connected to the rim portion of the body. The valve is movable between fully open and fully closed positions, and a plurality of intermediate positions therebetween. The body forms a fluid circuit between a high pressure channel from the chamber to the valve and a low pressure channel from the valve to the chamber. The rotor pressurizes fluid in the fluid circuit against the valve in proportion to the degree of closing of the valve which action rotates the body in all valve positions except the fully closed position.
