  • Patent number: 8315450
Abstract: Multiple cardiac gated, flow encoded, 2DFT MR images are acquired transversely in the vicinity of the foramen magnum of a subject. For each resulting 2D image parametric images depicting cephalad CSF flow caudad CSF flow and CSF throughput are reconstructed and displayed. CSF velocity images are reconstructed at successive cardiac phases and CSF flow velocity at each voxel therein is plotted as a function of cardiac phase. Cumulative flow images are also reconstructed and successive voxel values therein are also plotted. A link is established between displayed plotted curves and locations in the parametric images to facilitate diagnosis of Chiari I disease.

  • Patent number: 8309019
Abstract: A method of forming a powder metal forging, including the steps of: forming a preform including a sintered powder metal composition; inserting the preform in a die set having a bottom die and a top die, the die set defining a forge form therewithin, the die set being in a closed position wherein the top die is contacting the bottom die; and compressing the preform in the forge form using an upper punch and a lower punch, the compressing step resulting in a formed part. The closed die set minimizes or eliminates flash in the formed part, particularly in the contoured surfaces, which allows the forging to be through hardened by direct quenching after the forging operation, without the need to remove hardened flash from these surfaces.

  • Patent number: 8309052
Abstract: Methods for producing devolatilized and/or activated carbon in a reactor or reaction vessel of a heat treatment system from a suitable carbonaceous feedstock by introducing the feedstock into the reactor tangentially at a rotational velocity of at least 90 RPM. The methods include the steps of providing a combination of conveying means and a gas flow having various compositions and creating distinct carbonaceous feedstock material flow patterns and process conditions such that the feedstock is conveyed through the reactor or reaction vessel and heated via combustion, thereby producing activated carbon or other heat-treated carbons while concurrently avoiding adverse reaction conditions. Single and two-stage heat treatment systems may be used to heat a carbon feedstock, to which one or more industrial minerals may be added to co-produce compositions such as lime with the heat-treated carbon.

  • Patent number: 8311663
Abstract: A method to store data is disclosed. The method provides a plurality of data storage media, an automated data library comprising one or more data storage devices, a first plurality of storage cells, and a robotic accessor. The method further provides a storage vault comprising a second plurality of storage cells but no data storage devices. The method selects the (i)th data storage medium and sets the (i)th data state, where that (i)th data state is selected from the group consisting of online, offline, and vault. If the method sets the (i)th data state is set to online, then the method mounts that (i)th data storage medium in one of the data storage devices. If the method sets the (i)th data state to offline, then the method removeably places the (i)th data storage medium in one of the first plurality of storage cells. If the method sets the (i)th data state is set to vault, then the method places the (i)th data storage medium in one of the second plurality of storage cells.

  • Patent number: 8308646
Abstract: A trainable, adaptable system for analyzing functional or structural clinical data can be used to identify a given pathology based on functional data. The system includes a signal processor that receives functional data from a device monitoring a subject and normalizes the functional data over at least one cycle of functional data. The system also includes a neural network having a plurality of weights selected based on predetermined data and receiving and processing the normalized functional data based on the plurality of weights to generate at least one metric indicating a degree of relation between the normalized functional data to the predetermined data. A diagnostic interpretation module is included for receiving the at least one metric from the neural network and classifying the functional data as indicative of the given pathology or not indicative of the given pathology based on a comparison of the at least one metric to at least one probability distribution of a likelihood of the given pathology.

  • Patent number: 8308368
Abstract: A self-lubricating track roller and a method of making the self-lubricating track roller are disclosed. First, an inner ring is provided having a radially outwardly facing surface. A parting agent is applied onto the radially outwardly facing surface. Next, a self-lubricating material is applied over the radially outwardly facing surface. Then, an outer ring is formed around the self-lubricating material such that a radially inwardly facing surface of the outer ring is bonded to the self-lubricating material. A resilient tire is bonded onto the radially outwardly facing surface of the outer ring. In the resulting track roller, the radially outwardly facing surface of the inner ring has a surface profile that corresponds to a mating surface profile of the self-lubricating material that is bonded to the radially inwardly facing surface of the outer ring.

  • Patent number: 8306299
Abstract: A method for reconstructing a motion-compensated image depicting a subject with a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system is provided. An MRI system is used to acquire a time series of k-space data from the subject by sampling k-space along non-Cartesian trajectories, such as radial, spiral, or other trajectories at a plurality of time frames. Those time frames at which motion occurred are identified and this information used to segment the time series into a plurality of k-space data subsets. For example, the k-space data subsets contain k-space data acquired at temporally adjacent time frames that occur between those identified time frames at which motion occurred. Motion correction parameters are determined from the k-space data subsets. Using the determined motion correction parameters, the k-space data subsets are corrected for motion. The corrected data subsets are combined to form a corrected k-space data set, from which a motion-compensated image is reconstructed.

  • Patent number: 8306841
Abstract: A project management system uses a work breakdown structure to define the project tasks. The work breakdown structure is organized as set of hierarchical related project tasks. The work breakdown structure can be loaded in part from a template. A calendar breakdown structure defines events associated with project resources. The calendar breakdown structure is defined on departmental basis. A resource breakdown structure defines available resources. The resource breakdown structure includes personnel and tools. The allocation of available resources to the project tasks is optimized within the constraints of the work breakdown structure and calendar breakdown structure. A histogram of project demand versus available resources is generated. The histogram of project demand versus available resources is used to optimize resource allocation.
