  • Patent number: 5025688
Abstract: A fastener drive tool for applying a rotational torque to a threaded fastener for driving the fastener into or out of a workpiece. The drive tool has an elongated shaft portion with a free end which is selectively controllably engageable with a recess formed in the fastener. The free end is formed with a fastener engaging expansion portion. The expansion portion is operated by a draw shaft being selectively lockable in a bit retaining position. The expansion portion of the bit portion creates substantial fastener retaining forces on the opposing internal surfaces of the fastener recess in which it is inserted.

  • Patent number: 5025957
Abstract: A liquid dispensing nozzle assembly is provided for mounting on a liquid container and dispenser having a flexible wall and liquid storage cavity for manually squeezed dispensing of a liquid from the cavity through the nozzle assembly. The nozzle assembly maintains the liquid, such as contact lens saline solution, in sterile condition during storage and repeated dispensing of the liquid from the container cavity. The nozzle assembly includes a liquid conduit for communication from the container cavity to a liquid discharge port from the nozzle assembly to enable dispensing of the liquid displaced by manually squeezing the flexible wall of the container. The nozzle assembly also includes an air aspiration conduit separate from the liquid conduit for aspirating air into the container cavity to replace the dispensed liquid. The nozzle assembly includes a partitioned diaphragm including separate portions respectively included in the liquid conduit and the air aspiration conduit.

  • Patent number: 5019080
Abstract: A fastener and fastener driver system for prosthetic devices and other more common type usages. The fastener is threaded with a driver engaging socket formed in the fastener head. The driver imparts rotational torque to the fastener and includes a drive bit portion engagable with the driver engaging socket formed in the fastener. The driver engaging socket and drive bit are formed with cooperative hexalobular surfaces the sides of which are generally parallel for releasably retaining the fastener on the driver. Each convex curved surface of the hexalobular surface formed on the end of the driver bit is downwardly inwardly beveled. Three alternating concave curved surfaces in the socket are formed with cooperatively mating beveled surface portions. When the driver is engaged with a fastener the beveled surface portions of the socket are triangularly engaged by the driver to securely releasably retain the fastener on the driver to prevent wobbling of the fastener when driven by the driver.

  • Patent number: 5018913
Abstract: In order to obtain a desired course of a machining line differing from a straight line or a corresponding flank line of a workpiece profile, it is necessary to control the working point of the tool 2 so that on the rectilinear stroke movement of the tool 2, a movement extending transversely thereto is effected by a tool positioning device 4. Such a device is constructed in the form of a toggle mechanism on which further fine control movements can be imposed through a series of adjustment possibilities.

  • Patent number: 4999873
Abstract: A hinge brake apparatus is provided for controlling the rate of either opening or closing of a door or the like. The hinge brake includes a cylinder member having a tubular-open-ended configuration and a piston member which axially slidably interfits in telescoping relation with the cylinder and forms a sliding seal therewith. A one-way air flow control arrangement is disposed adjacent the end of the cylinder opposite its open end for controlling the flow of air between the interior and the exterior of the cylinder in response to travel of the piston in at least one axial direction relative to the cylinder. A check valve arrangement is provided for permitting a relatively free and less impeded air flow between the exterior and interior of the cylinder in response to travel of the piston in the opposite axial direction.

  • Patent number: 4996027
Abstract: An appliance for containing and venting fluid, typically for disinfecting contact lenses, includes a container body which has an access opening and a removable closure for the opening. A gasket is seated to form a normally liquid-tight seal between the container body and the closure, and the gasket means has a composition which is sufficiently resilient to at least partially deflect and unseat from the container body upon exertion against the gasket of elevated gas pressure developed within the container, for example, during a disinfection process. The pressurized gas can then be vented past the unseated gasket which forms a vent passageway between the closure and the container body, after which venting the gasket redeflects to reseat and seal against the container body to prevent any subsequent leakage of fluid from the container body.

  • Patent number: 4993779
Abstract: An element, adapted to be inter-engaged with a plurality of similar elements to form a rack for a mining machine haulage system, has each element comprising at one end, a looped end portion including inner and outer arcuate bearing surfaces, the inner bearing surface defining one end of an upwardly open aperture. A downwardly projecting tooth is spaced from the inner bearing surface and adapted to fill partly the aperture of the next adjacent inter-engaged element, while a correspondingly arcuate bearing surface is also provided on the tooth for abutment against the inner arcuate bearing surface of the adjacent element. Also, a transversely extending bridge is provided at the other end of the element, which bridge has transversely extending, and upwardly converging, planar faces for engagement, in use, by a tooth of a driven haulage system of an associated mining machine, dependent upon the direction of haulage.

  • Patent number: 4985978
Abstract: An improved method and joint structure are provided for assembling a self-clinching fastener to sheet material, particularly thin sheet metal, in which an aperture and a peripheral flange are formed in the sheet metal; thereafter the shank portion of the fastener is inserted into the flange followed by clinching the fastener to the flange to secure the assembly. The sheet metal aperture and peripheral flange can be fabricated in a single work station in which the fabricating tooling punches the sheet metal aperture and extrudes or shapes the peripheral flange between a pair of forming dies. Assembly of the fastener joint with the flanged metal is performed in a second work station in which the fastener shank is inserted into the flange and then the head portion of the fastener is driven into the flange material to begin the clinching step.

  • Patent number: 4957570
Abstract: The invention relates to the butt-welding of pipes of plastics materials. Equipment is alreaady known where pipe ends are first urged against a trimmer plate, and then urged against a heater plate to create beads of a required size at the ends of the pipes, following which the pipe ends are urged into abutting relationship for welding to occur. Particularly with automatic machines employing hydraulic power, the force applied between the pipe ends and the heater plate and subsequently between the pipe ends needs to include an allowance for the drag factor inherent in the pipeline and compensate for any frictional effect in the mechanical and hydraulic moving components, and which is a difficult calculation.

  • Patent number: 4953303
Abstract: Disclosed is a specialized sextant of the clinometer type capable of providing the translation of the height of a tree (or any finite line) to a distance along the ground, (or any other orientation sharing a common end point with the first line) on any selected slope of the terrain.A significant aspect is that by two adjustments, made anywhere within sight of the tree (or finite line) the device directs the user to a point on the ground (or other orientation) which lies at the exact distance from the tree's base that the tree's length is. If the tree is to be cut down, the point on the ground where the top of the tree will hit is located. This is accomplished without scales, calculations, tape measurements, or target settings.

  • Patent number: 4951796
Abstract: A self-aligning clutch release bearing and carrier sleeve assembly includes a carrier sleeve which defines a first axis and a bearing adapted to be brought into engagement with rotating clutch fingers or the like of a clutch mechanism, which clutch fingers rotate about a second axis which may not be exactly coincidental with the first axis. The bearing and carrier sleeve assembly is adapted to adjust the rotation orientation of the bearing to coincide with the second axis of rotation of the clutch fingers. This bearing and carrier sleeve assembly comprises: a bearing including a generally annular thrust face for engagement with the clutch fingers and first and second annular raceways having a plurality of bearing elements disposed therebetween, one of the raceways rotating in unison with the thrust face and the other of the raceways being coupled with the carrier sleeve. A mounting arrangement is provided for grippingly engaging the second raceway for mounting the same to the carrier sleeve.
