  • Patent number: 4565866
Abstract: The instant invention relates to a process for the preparation of formamides in which ammonia, a primary or a secondary amine is reacted with carbon monoxide at an elevated temperature and pressure in the presence of a mixture consisting of a phenol and a phenate salt from the group consisting of an alkali metal phenate and an alkaline earth metal phenate, said phenol and said phenate salt each having the radical: ##STR1## wherein R is selected from the group consisting of an alkyl radical having from 3 to 18 carbon atoms and a hydroxyaryl radical of the formula: ##STR2## in which R' is an alkylene group having from 2 to 5 carbon atoms and in which x has a value of 1 to 2 when R is said alkyl radical and x has a value of 1 when R is said hydroxyaryl radical.

  • Patent number: 4556730
Abstract: Novel compounds made from the reaction of 5-vinyl-2-norbornene with carboxylic acid anhydrides in the presence of oxygen are described. The process to make these novel esters is preferably conducted at a temperature in the range from about 50.degree. to 150.degree. C. and in the presence of a catalyst. A transition metal borate catalyst is preferred. Such ester compounds are potentially useful plasticizers, lubricants, solvents and fuel additives.

  • Patent number: 4524143
Abstract: This invention is directed to thermally activated pelletted catalyst compositions comprising zirconium silicate having phosphorous deposited thereon and their use in the production of predominantly linear polyethylenepolyamines from ethylenediamine and monoethanolamine.

  • Patent number: 4521581
Abstract: A method of making polymer polyols is disclosed wherein a relatively low molecular weight liquid polymer of an ethylenically unsaturated monomer is mixed with a polyol and crosslinked in the polyol. The relatively low molecular weight polymer which is mixed in the polyol may have a variety of microstructures since the low molecular weight polymer was prepared separate from the polyol.

  • Patent number: 4521609
Abstract: A process for the production of cycloalkane epoxides from cycloalkenes in the presence of a tungsten or zirconium containing catalyst, oxygen and a carboxylate ion source via air oxidation is described. For example, cobalt tungstate, nickel tungstate, silver tungstate and manganese tungstate are useful catalysts. Active zirconates are cerium zirconate, cadmium zirconate and lead zirconate. The reaction is conducted at a temperature in the range of 50.degree. to 150.degree. C. and a pressure of one atmosphere or greater. Cycloalkane epoxides are useful in the preparation of resins, plasticizers, etc.
